In this paper, artificial neural networks, a new kind of intelligent method, are employed to model and predict amplitude dependent damping in buildings based on our full-scale measurements of buildings. The modelling method and procedure using neural networks to model the damping are studied. Comparative analysis of different neural network models of damping, which includes multi-layer perception network (MLP), recurrent neural network, and general regression neural network (GRNN), is performed and discussed in detail. The performances of the models are evaluated and discussed by tests and predictions including self-test, "one-lag" prediction and "multi-lag" prediction of the damping values at high amplitude levels. The established models of damping are used to predict the damping in the following three ways : (1) the model is established by part of the data measured from one building and is used to predict the another part of damping values which are always difficult to obtain from field measurements : the values at the high amplitude level. (2) The model is established by the damping data measured from one building and is used to predict the variation curve of damping for another building. And (3) the model is established by the data measured from more than one buildings and is used to predict the variation curve of damping for another building. The prediction results are discussed.

The empirical Green's function method is applied to the foreshock and the mainshock of the 2016 Gyeongju earthquake to simulate strong ground motions of the mainshock and scenario earthquake at seismic stations of seven metropolises in South Korea, respectively. To identify the applicability of the method in advance, the mainshock is simulated, assuming the foreshock as the empirical Green's function. As a result of the simulation, the overall shape, the amplitude of PGA, and the duration and response spectra of the simulated seismic waveforms are similar with those of the observed seismic waveforms. Based on this result, a scenario earthquake on the causative fault of Gyeongju earthquake with a moment magnitude 6.5 is simulated, assuming that the mainshock serves as the empirical Green's function. As a result, the amplitude of PGA and the duration of simulated seismic waveforms are significantly increased and extended, and the spectral amplitude of the low frequency band is relatively increased compared with that of the high frequency band. If the empirical Green's function method is applied to several recent well-recorded moderate earthquakes, the simulated seismic waveforms can be used as not only input data for developing ground motion prediction equations, but also input data for creating the design response spectra of major facilities in South Korea.

In this paper, we present two methods of correcting bit errors in constant amplitude multi-code (CAMC) CDMA, which uses the redundant bits only. The first method is a parity-based bit correction with hard-decision, where the received signals despread into n two-dimensional structure with both horizontal parity and vertical parity. Then, an erroneous bit is corrected for each $4{\times}4$ pattern. The second method is a turbo decoding, which is modified from the decoding of a single parity check product code (SPCPC). Experimental results show that, in the second method, the redundant bits in CAMC can be fully used for the error correction and so they are not really a loss of channel bandwidth. Hence, CAMC provides both a low peak-to-average power ratio and robustness to bit errors.
The present study investigates the sloshing phenomena in a two-dimensional rectangular tank at a low filling level by using a level set method based on finite volume method. The code validations are performed by comparing between the present results and previous numerical and experimental results, which gives a good agreement. Various excitation frequencies and excitation amplitude of the 30% filling height tank have been considered in order to observe the dependence of the sloshing behavior on the excitation frequency and amplitude. Regardless of excitation amplitude, the maximum value of wall pressure occurs when the excitation frequency reaches the natural frequency. The time sequence of free surface and corresponding streamlines for excitation frequencies have been presented to analysis the variation of wall pressure according to time, which contributes to explain the double peaks in the time variation of wall pressure.
A Vowel of speech signals are multicomponent signals composed of AM-FM components whose instantaneous frequency and instantaneous amplitude are time-varying. The changes of emotion states cause the variation of the instantaneous frequencies and the instantaneous amplitudes of AM-FM components. Therefore, it is important to estimate exactly the instantaneous frequencies and the instantaneous amplitudes of AM-FM components for the extraction of key information representing emotion states and changes in speech signals. In tills paper, firstly a method decomposing speech signals into AM - FM components is addressed. Secondly, the fundamental frequency of vowel sound is estimated by the simple method based on the spectrogram. The estimate of the fundamental frequency is used for decomposing speech signals into AM-FM components. Thirdly, an estimation method is suggested for separation of the instantaneous frequencies and the instantaneous amplitudes of the decomposed AM - FM components, based on Hilbert transform and the demodulation property of the extended Fourier transform. The estimates of the instantaneous frequencies and the instantaneous amplitudes can be used for modification of the spectral distribution and smooth connection of two words in the speech synthesis systems based on a corpus.
In this study, a system coupled with the nonlinear dynamic vibration absorber was modelled, and its equation of motion was analized by the harmonic balance method to obtain the amplitude ratio. And also, the stability analysis was done by the Routh Hurwitz method. In the vibration systems coupled with the nonlinear dynamic vibration absorber, the unstable region and the jump phenomenon can be ramarkably affected by the damping ratio. The stable and unstable region that obtained to differential method excellently agreed to the result of the stability analysis of Routh Hurwitz.

This paper describes as Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry system which has been designed for measuring vibration patterns and quantitative measurement of vibration amplitude fields by using the time average method on a object. Visbility of fringe patterns is more improved by using the phase stepping and frame average method to reduce speckle and electric noise. And a bias vibration is introduced into the reference beam to shift the $\frac{2}{0}$ fringes so that fringe shift algorithms can be used to determine vibration amplitude. The experimental results are compared to those of the FFT analyzer and the FEM model analysis.

This paper is concerned with the measurement of low-frequency vibrations of structures using the image processing method. To measure the vibrations visually, the measurement system consists of a camera, an image grabber board, and a computer. The specific target installed on the structure is used to calculate the vibration of structure. The captured image is then converted into a pixel-based data and then analyzed numerically. The limitation of the system depends on the image capturing speed and the size of image. In this paper, we propose the methodology for the vibration measurement using the image processing method. The method enables us to measure the displacement directly without any contact. The current resolution of the vibration measurement is limited to sub centimeter scale. However, the frequency bandwidth and resolution can be enhanced by a high-speed and high-resolution image processing system.

We studied the effects of fractional fourier transform in face recognition, in which only the amplitude spectra of transformed facial images were used.We used two recently developed face recognition methods, the most effective feature (MEF) method (i.e., eigenface method) and most discriminating feature (MDF) method, and the effects of th etransform for th etwo methods were consistent. We confirmed that the recognition rate by the use of MDF method is better than that consistent. We confirmed that the recognition rate by the use of MDF method is better than that by MEF regardless of the order to transform, these methods provided slightly better results when the order was 1 than for any other order values. Only when the order was close to 1, the recognition rates were robust to the shift of the input images, and the trend that the recognition rates decreased as the input size varied was independent of the order. From these results, we fond that it is most advantageous to use the amplitude spectra of the conventional fourier transform whose order is 1.
Traveltime tomogram is generally used for interpretation of seismic tunnel data. In the field data, the first arrival traveltime is less dispersive with increasing source-receiver seperation compared to theoretical model data. So the result of calculation can be serious despite of small errors such as traveltime picking. In this study, amplitude method and error tomogram method are tried to overcome these problems. This method will help the interpretation of the data from the underground tunnel.
