  • 1960년 Au-Si계 합금에서 처음으로 비정질상이 급속 응고법에 의해 보고된 이래/sup 1)/ 지난 40년 간 많은 합금계에서 비정질상이 보고되어졌다. 대표적으로 Fe-, Ni-, Co기 합금 등 많은 합금계에서 비정질상이 보고되었으나, 비정질상의 형성을 위해서는 약 105 K/s이상의 높은 냉각속도를 필요로 하였다. 1980년대 수백 K/s의 낮은 냉각속도 하에서도 비정질상이 형성될 수 있는 다원계 합금(multi-component alloy)이 Mg-Ln-(Ni, Cu, Zn), Ln-Al-TM 합금에서 보고되어 졌으나 많은 관심을 받지 못하다가 1993년 Zr-Ti-Ni-Cu-Be 합금에서 수 ㎝ 크기의 비정질합금 제조가 보고되면서 전 세계적으로 많은 관심을 받게 되었다. Zr-Ti-Ni-Cu-Be계 벌크 비정질 합금이 보고된 후 Zr-(Nb,Pd)-Al-TM, Pd-Cu-Ni-P, Fe-Co-Zr-Mo-W-B, Ti-Zr-Ni-Cu-Sn등 여러 합금계에서 벌크 비정질 합금이 보고되었다. (중략)

  • Heavy metal equilibria in the Dongnam stream which receives the wastewater from mining activities are investigated to provide some basic data for the management of small stream with acid mine drainage. Saturation, undersaturation, and supersaturation of some heavy metal ions with respect to some mineral phases are evaluated by saturation index (logIAP/Ksp). The $Al^{3+}$ activities showed equilibrium with $AIOHSO_4$ solid phase below a pH of 6.0. The $Fe^{3+}$ activities appeared to be controlled by Fe $(OH)_{3(amorphous)}$ solid phase below a pH of 4.0. $Zn^{2+}$ activities appeared to be regulated by $ZnCO_3$ solid phase above a pH of 6.8. Some heavy metal activities appeared to be depended upon the pH.

A study on hysteresis and temperature properties of VDF/TrFe copolymer (VDF/TrFE 공중합체의 히스테리시스 및 온도특성)

  • D-E hysteresis loops have been measured for the 65/35 mole % copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and trifluoroethylene over wide temperature range. The remanent polarization and the coercive field at room temperature were estimated to be 75 mC/m$^{2}$ and 55 MV/m respectively. D-E hysteresis loops were observed even below the glass transition temperature(-20.deg. C) and the remanent polarization and the coercive field were larger, as the temperature lower. It seems that the remanent polarization and the coercive field depend on the amorphous region as well as crystalline region in this copolymer. And the ferroelectric-to-paraelectric phase transition was observed at 90.deg. C on heating and 80'C on cooling. Double hysteresis loops were observed at the temperature(85.deg. C) of paraelectric phase.

  • In order to clarify the origin of perpendicular anisotropy in thermally evaporated TbFeCo amorphous thin films, we have investigated the effects of deposition angle on magnetic Kerr hysteresis loop, perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and internal stress depend strongly on the deposition angle and above a threshold value(30$^{\circ}$), the perpendicular anisotropy disapperars and the in-plane anisotropy appears. The measurement of internal stress is the major contribution to the perpendicular anisotropy. The measurements of Kerr hysteresis loops in the polar and the longitudinal directions show that as the deposition angle increases the polar kerr hystresis loop deteriorates while the longitudinal Kerr hystersis loop becomes prominent.

Prediction of Transition Temperature and Magnetocaloric Effects in Bulk Metallic Glasses with Ensemble Models (앙상블 기계학습 모델을 이용한 비정질 소재의 자기냉각 효과 및 전이온도 예측)

  • In this study, the magnetocaloric effect and transition temperature of bulk metallic glass, an amorphous material, were predicted through machine learning based on the composition features. From the Python module 'Matminer', 174 compositional features were obtained, and prediction performance was compared while reducing the composition features to prevent overfitting. After optimization using RandomForest, an ensemble model, changes in prediction performance were analyzed according to the number of compositional features. The R2 score was used as a performance metric in the regression prediction, and the best prediction performance was found using only 90 features predicting transition temperature, and 20 features predicting magnetocaloric effects. The most important feature when predicting magnetocaloric effects was the 'Fe' compositional ratio. The feature importance method provided by 'scikit-learn' was applied to sort compositional features. The feature importance method was found to be appropriate by comparing the prediction performance of the Fe-contained dataset with the full dataset.

Mechanisms of Immobilization and Leaching Characteristics of Arsenic in the Waste Rocks and Tailings of the Abandoned Mine Areas (폐광산 지역 폐광석 및 광미에서 비소의 고정 메커니즘과 용출특성)

  • EPMA determined that Fe(Mn)-(oxy)hydroxides and well-crystallized Fe-(oxy)hydroxides and could contain a small amount of As $(0.3-11.0\;wt.\%\;and\;2.1-7.4\;wt.\%\;respectively)$. Amorphous crystalline Fe-(oxy) hydroxide assemblages were identified as the richest in As with $28-36\;wt.\%$. On the ternary $As_2O_5-SO_3-Fe_2O_3$ diagram, these materials were interpreted here as 'scorodite-like'. Dissolved As was attenuated by the adsorption on Fe-(oxy) hydroxides and Fe(Mn)-(oxy) hydroxides and/or the formation of an amorphous Fe-As phase (maybe scorodite: $FeAsO_4\cdot2H_2O$). Leaching tests were performed in order to find out leaching characteristics of As and Fe under acidic conditions. At the initial pHs 3 and 5, As contents dissolved from tailings of the cheongyang mine significantly increased after 7 days due to the oxidation of As-bearing secondary minerals (up to ca. $2.4\%$ of total), while As of Seobo mine-tailing samples was rarely released (ca. $0.0-0.1\%$ of total). Dissolution experiments at an initial pH 1 liberated a higher amount of As (ca. $1.1-4.2\%$ of total for Seobo tailings, $1.5-14.4\%$ of total for Cheongyang tailings). In addition, good correlation between As and Fe in leached solutions with tailings was observed. The kinetic problems could be the important factor which leads to increasing concentrations of As in the runoff water. Release of As from Cheongyang tailings can potentially pose adverse impact to surface and groundwater qualities in the surrounding environment, while precipitation of secondary minerals and the adsorption of As are efficient mechanisms for decreasing the mobilities of As in the surface environment of Seobo mine area.

  • We prepared the cylindrical $\gamma-alumina$ pellets of 5 mm in diameter and 10 mm in average length using amorphous alumina and pore generating agent. The pellets were immersed in an aqueous solution of the mixture of $Fe(NO_{3})_{3}{\cdot}9H_{2}O$ and $CH_{3}COOH$. They were then hydrothermally treated at $200^{\circ}C$ for 3 h in autoclave, dried and calcined. For the application as an environmental catalyst, we investigated the decomposition characteristics of aniline and the initiation characteristics of $OH^{\cdot}$ conversion action in $O_{3}$ environment with or without the $Fe_{2}O_{3}$ supported y-alumina catalyst and $O_{3}$ molecule.

  • The magnetic heating effect of $SiO_2$coated $ \Upsilon-Fe_2$$O_3$nanocomposite particle due to magnetic relaxational loss of superparamagnetic regime was investigated by measuring the generated heat from nanocomposite particles in alternative applied magnetic fields. The commercial $ \Upsilon-Fe_2$$O_3$nanoparticles were coated by SiO$_2$in water solution with TEOS and the synthesized nanocomposite powders and its magnetic properties were characterized and compared with the raw$ \Upsilon-Fe_2$$O_3$nanoparticles. The 10∼30 nm sized $ \Upsilon-Fe_2$$O_3$. nanoparticles were coated by 5 nm thickness of amorphous $SiO_2$film. The nanocomposite particle has very low Mr and Hc value showing superparamagnetic behavior The magnetic heating effect of nanocomposite particle on surface coating phase of $SiO_2$was discussed in terms of superparamagnetic behaviors of each particles, and their potential for hyperthermia application was evaluated.

  • The transition metal salt doped solid polymer electrolyte [TSPE] were prepared with HPMC as a host polymer. The virgin and doped films were prepared by solution-casting method and investigated using wide angle X-ray scattering method. Micro structural parameters like lattice strain (g%), stacking/twin faults, the average number of unit cells counted in a direction perpendicular to the Bragg's plane (hkl) spacing of (hkl) planes dhkl, crystallite size Ds, distortion width, standard deviation were determined by whole pattern powder fitting (WPPF) method, which is an extension of single order method. It is found that the crystallite size decreases with the increase in the content of $FeCl_3$. This decrease is due to increase in localized breaking of polymer network which also accounts for the amorphous nature of the material. The filler inorganic salt $FeCl_3$ acts as plasticizer. FTIR study also confirms and justifies the interaction between the polymer and in-organic salt in the matrix. Physical properties like mechanical stability and Ac conductivity in these films are in conformity with the X-ray results.

Microbial Synthesis of Cobalt-Substituted Magnetite Nanoparticles by Iron Reducing Bacteria (미생물을 이용한 나노입자의 코발트로 치환된 자철석의 합성)

  • The use of bacteria as a novel biotechnology to facilitate the production of nanoparticles is in its infancy. Cobalt-substituted magnetite nanoparticles were synthesized by a thermophilic iron(III)-reducing bacterium, TOR-39, under anaerobic conditions using amorphous Fe(III) oxyhydroxides plus cobalt ( $Co^{2+}$ and $Co^{3+}$ ) as an electron acceptor and organic carbon as an electron donor. Microbial processes produced copious amounts of nm-sized cobalt substituted magnetites. Chemical analysis and X-ray powder diffraction analysis showed that cobalt was substituted into biologically facilitated magnetites. Microbially facilitated synthesis of the cobalt-substituted magnetites may expand the possible use of the specialized ferromagnetic particles.
