Background : Allergic rhinitis is found in approximately 20% of the general population. And the prevalence of allergic rhinitis in the pediatric population also appears to be rising. Despite allergic rhinitis reportedly occurs very frequently, this disease is often overlooked or undertreated. The oriental medicine, allergic rhinitis is belong to the BiGu, BunChe. The symptoms are watery rhinorrhea, sneezing and nasal obstruction. The cause of disease is the weak of lung, spleen and kidney, and invasion in to nasal cavity of Poong Han etc a wrong air. Objective : To allergic rhinitis patients, we use herbal medicine and acupuncture treated. To demonstrate the effect of oriental medicine therapy in the allergic rhinitis before and after treatment. Materials and methods: Thirty five patients (18 male and 17 female) treated in our hospital between February 2001 and October 2001 were studied. Ages ranged from 10 to 56 years (mean age : 27 years). Seventy seven patients had a underlying family history (allergy or sinusitis of parents or brothers). In the past history, 63% patients have atopic disease. Illness period was from 1 month to 20 years (mean period : 5.7 year). Mean duration of treatment were 39 days. Gamihyunggyeyungyo-tang was administered mainly. Result : The symptoms of allergic rhinitis were nasal obstruction(94%), rhinorrhea(86%), itching(80%), sneezing(60%), eye itching(17%), headache(11%), nose bleeding(8%) and nose pain(6%). Compared with before and after treatment, the fourth symptoms of allergic rhinitis - sneezing, rhinorrhea, nasal obstruction and itching- improved significant statistically. (significant <0.005) Conclusion : We know that herbal medicine therapy and acupuncture were the effective treatment of Allergic rhinitis.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of several herbal prescriptions in patients with allergy or atopic disease, such as atopic dermatitis, asthma and allergy rhinitis and others, on the blood immunological parameters and to verify the safety of long-term use of herbal medicine. Eighty one patients with allergy or atopy disease who taken herbal medicine at least for 2 months were compared with patients who taken same medicine with no allergy & atopy disease (n=14) and normal healthy subjects (n=22). According to the comparison of immunological parameters change, the data showed that herbal medicine decreased IgE (P=0.003), Eosinophil ratio (P<0.001) and count (P<0.001) of White Blood Cell (WBC) and did not affect to the liver cell enzymes in blood. This results indicated that herbal medicine decreased immune hypersensitivity and improved chronic inflammation related to blood immunological parameters of allergy or atopy diseases. In addition, herbal medicine seemed to be safe to the liver function for long-term use.
Pollen is very important causing factor for allergy such as allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and asthma, and pollen allergy has a remarkable clinical impact all over Korea. The main pollination period covers about half the year, from spring to autumn, and the distribution of airborne pollen taxa of allergological interest is related to pollen season dynamics. Korean academy of pediatric allergy and respiratory diseases (KAPARD) has evaluated the pollen characteristics and nationwide pollen count for over 10 years since 1997. Airborne particles carrying allergens were collected daily from nationwide 8 stations (Seoul, Guri, Cheongju, Daegu, Kwangju, Busan, Kangneung, and Jeju) by using 7 days-Burkard sampler (Burkard Manufacturing Co Ltd, Hertfordshire, UK) in South Korea (July 1, 1997-June 30, 2007). They were counted and recorded along with the meteorological factors daily. Tree pollen is a major airborne allergen in spring, grass is most common in summer, and weed pollen is major pollen in autumn in Korea. There has two peak seasons for pollen allergy, as summer and autumn. There is some evidence suggesting that the prevalence of allergic diseases in Korea has been on the increase in the past decade. However, recent findings of the phase I and II studies of the international Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) study showed the absence of increases or little changes in prevalence of asthma symptoms and diagnosis rates in Korea, whereas the prevalence of allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis were increased. We reported the evidence that sensitization rate to weed pollen has been increased yearly since 1997 in childhood. Climate change and air pollution must be the major causing factors for the increase of pollen counts and sensitization rate to pollen. Climate change makes the plants earlier pollination and persisting pollination longer. In conclusion, data on pollen count and structure in the last few years, the pathogenetic role of pollen and the interaction between pollen and air pollutants with climate change gave new insights into the mechanism of respiratory allergic diseases in Korea.

As the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic continues, doctors face many difficulties in managing patients with respiratory allergies. As research continues, much new knowledge has emerged about the link between COVID-19 infection and respiratory allergies. Studies to date have shown that there is no significant increase in the risk of COVID-19 infection in patients with respiratory allergies. However, in patients undergoing treatment for moderate to severe asthma or allergic rhinitis, more severe clinical manifestations, increased hospitalization period, and increased mortality may occur, so patients need to be managed with more care. In addition to personal efforts, social consideration should be accompanied to prevent deterioration in patients' quality of life with respiratory allergies due to COVID-19. Lastly, as clinical doctors, we should treat patients with respiratory allergies to protect ourselves appropriately by actively utilizing remote medical treatment and minimizing tests that generate droplets. Also, by appropriately educating patients and continuing drug treatment, efforts should be made to ensure that patients receive the best treatment even in a pandemic situation.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to examine the treatment of allergic rhinitis introduced in the Chinese guideline, and to find out the direction of evidence-establishment and applicability in developing Korean Medicine clinical practice guideline for allergic rhinitis. Method : We studied Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment of allergic rhinitis introduced in the 2018 Chinese society of allergy guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of allergic rhinitis. The treatment are classified into three categories; herbal medicines, acupuncture and the others. And we compared this guidelines with other guidelines for how they differ in description of the database, evidence of level, and strength of recommendation. Results : Herbal medicines are presented based on syndrome differentiation. The basic acupoints for allergic rhinitis are introduced as follows; Fengchi(GB20), Yingxiang(LI20), Feishu(BL13) and Taiyuan(LU9). And in comparison with other guidelines for allergic rhinitis, the Chinese guideline showed lack of description in the database, evidence of level, and strength of recommendation, though they used evidence-based models. Conclusions : Clinical practice guideline projects are also underway in Korea for benefit expansion and improving quality of medical services. It is important to develop guidelines which should be evidence-based and reflect Korean medical environment.
Allergic diseases such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, and food allergy, are most common chronic, noncommunicable diseases in childhood. In the past few decades, the prevalence has increased abruptly worldwide. There are 2 possible explanations for the rising prevalence of allergic diseases worldwide, that an increased disease-awareness of physician, patient, or caregivers, and an abrupt exposure to unknown hazards. Unfortunately, the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. Despite the continuing efforts worldwide, the etiologies and rising prevalence remain unclear. Thus, it is important to identify and control risk factors in the susceptible individual for the best prevention and management. Genetic susceptibility or environments may be a potential background for the development of allergic disease, however they alone cannot explain the rising prevalence worldwide. There is growing evidence that epigenetic change depends on the gene, environment, and their interactions, may induce a long-lasting altered gene expression and the consequent development of allergic diseases. In epigenetic mechanisms, environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) exposure during critical period (i.e., during pregnancy and early life) are considered as a potential cause of the development of childhood allergic diseases. However, the causal relationship is still unclear. This review aimed to highlight the impact of ETS exposure during the perinatal period on the development of childhood allergic diseases and to propose a future research direction.

This review summarizes the cause of allergy and control by lactic acid bacteria. Atopic diseases such as asthma, rhinitis, eczema and food allergy have increased in most industrialized countries of the world during the last 20 years. The reasons for this increase are not clear and different hypotheses have been assessed including increased exposure to sensitizing allergens or decreased stimulation of the immune system during critical periods of development. Probiotic bacteria, which beneficially affect the host by improving its microbial balance, may mediate anti-allergenic effects by immune stimulation. Although more clinical evidences are required, the possible role of specific LAB strains in the prevention of allergic diseases has become more evident. since the role of functional food is important for prevention, it is expected for the more anti-allergy fermented milk products to be on the market.
Nasal polyps were apparently common in many parts of the world and treated for nearly three thousand years. Nasal polyps are round, smooth, soft, semi-translucent, yellow or pale glistening structures, usually attached to the nasal or sinus mucosa by a relatively narrow stalk or pedicle. The incidence of nasal polyps is increased in patients with atopic diseases; it varies from 15% to 25% and now increased using allergy therapy for nasal polyposis treatment. Sinusitis is an inflammation of the mucous membranes of the sinuses. Many agents can cause an inflammatory response, including organisms such as bacteria and viruses, physical and chemical trauma, and antigen antibody reactions. The role of antigen antibody interactions (allergy) in simusitis is not completely understood ; however, patients with allergic rhinitis and nasal polyps have a high incidence of sinusitis. Recently authors have experienced two cured cases of nasal polyposis combined with chronic sinusitis by allergy therapy, that cases were treated only allergy thereapy after Caldwell Luc operation with ethmoidectomy and polypectomy. At now cases were not recur of nasal polyps and nasal symptoms. So the cases were reported with a brief review of literature.
This study focuses on 130 estheticians currently working in and around Daegu and Gyeongbuk region, in order to find out the current state of affairs and side effects related to aromatherapy. This paper is based on a survey. SPSS win 11.0 program was used for the analysis of descriptive statistics and independent t-test. According to the result of analysis, about 33% of the estheticians have had allergy experience. And in terms of installation of an air ventilation fan, which is the most important facility in an treatment room, more than half (50.8%) replied they did not have one. There was a statistically significant difference between those estheticians suffering from allergy and those who did not, in symptoms of stuffy nose/rhinitis (P<0.01) and dry skin/itchiness (P<0.5). (Allergy symptoms from the 33% of estheticians were limited to those which occurred after he or she began career) On work related symptoms, those who had work history at hospitals/clinics or apothecaries were compared. A statistically relevant difference was confirmed between those estheticians with therapy experience and those who had none, in all symptoms except headaches and drowsiness/weariness. In other words, there was difference in symptoms such as dryness of skin/itchiness (P<0.01), stuffy nose/rhinitis, dry throat, tension/nervousness, dizziness, tired eyes(P<0.5), nausea, having trouble with focusing, and fatigue(P<0.1). Those estheticians who had a history of treatment especially suffered most from dryness of skin and itchiness. The rate of regular check-ups and the use of masks, employed for self protection, was lower than average (amounting to 5 points), with the use of masks especially having the lowest average (1.7) points.
The purpose of this study was to find out the factors influencing asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis among Korean adolescents. Data of 72,060 adolescents aged 12 to 18 years were derived from the 10th Korean youth's risk web-based study, which was conducted in 2014. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that factors influencing asthma was sex, age, BMI, subjective socioeconomic status, smoking, and subjective perception of stress. Factors influencing allergic rhinitis was age, place of residence, subjective socioeconomic status, drinking, and subjective perception of stress. Factors influencing atopic dermatitis was sex, age, subjective socioeconomic status, drinking, and subjective perception of stress. In conclusion, regulatory policy of lifestyle, such as smoking and drinking adversely affect allergy related disease in adolescents strengthening comprehensive prevention education and stress management are probably the two need to be implemented at national side.
