Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of CAD/CAM ceramic thickness on shade. Methods: 24 disk-shaped ceramic specimens (E.Max CAD & Empress CAD, $12mm{\times}12mm$) were prepared and divided into 4 groups (n=6). Ceramic specimens in 2 thicknesses (0.8 mm, 1.0 mm) were made low translucency(LT) shade A2. All specimens were measured as L*, a*, b* using spectrophotometer. The color differences(${\Delta}E$ values) between the specimen and a control target block ($12{\times}12{\times}1.2mm$) were calculated. Two-way ANOVA performed between 2 groups(material and thickness). Results: As the thickness increased, the $L^*$ (for all groups) and $b^*$ value (for all groups) increased and the $a^*$ value(for LR group) decreased. The mean color differences caused by thickness was acceptible (${\Delta}E$ > 2) for group LD1. But the mean color differences by thickness were not selected (${\Delta}E$ < 2) for group LD2, LR1, LR2. Conclusions: The different thickness can influence the final color of CAD/CAM ceramic.
Purpose: This study was performed fracture strength test by conducted change of abutment and coping shape for suggesting monolithic all ceramic crown which has thin thickness and superior strength of the occlusal surface. Methods: The specimens on the four kinds abutment was made according to thickness of occlusal surface and angle of axis surface. And All ceramic coping specimens of 6 different kinds was made by the CAD/CAM Method. Compression strength test using the UTM and the verification of compression-stress situation using the 3D finite element method were conducted under optimum conditions. Results: 516C specimen was showed the strongest compression-fracture strength, followed by 516FR, 516F45, specimens. Did not show significant differences between 516FR and 516F45. 516C of the universal testing machine the specimen's surface that are within the vertical load is small, finite element method of a uniformly distributed load, so the value received suggests otherwise. Conclusion: In conclusion, abutments of monolithic ziconia ceramic when having a same thickness of the occlusal, as the angle of occlusal edge is small, the stress is well dispersed and it can endure well in the fracture.
By means of coloring of plane nets a number of different tetrahedral frameworks can be derived. With the aid of this method all tetrahedral framework structures which built up of layer structures with 2, 4, 8 tetrahedra per unit cell and 6-membered ring or 4-8-membered ring are given. For the systematic derivation of all possible structures, graph theory may be introduced.
PURPOSE. The aim of this in vitro study was to examine the curing efficiency of various resin-based materials polymerized through ceramic restorations with 3 different thicknesses. Curing efficiency was evaluated by determining the surface microhardness (VHN) of the resin specimens. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Four kinds of resin materials were used. Z350 (3M ESPE $Filtek^{TM}$ Z350: A2 Shade), Z250 (3M ESPE $Filtek^{TM}$ Z250: A2 Shade) and $Variolink^{(R)}$ II (VL: Ivoclar vivadent, base: transparent) either with or without a self-curing catalyst (VLC: Ivoclar vivadent, catalyst: low viscosity/transparent) were filled into the silicone mold (10 mm diameter, 1 mm thick). They were cured through ceramic discs (IPS e.max Press MO-0 ingot ivoclar vivadent, 10 mm diameter, 0.5, 1 and 2 mm thicknesses) by LED light-curing units for 20 and 40 seconds. Vicker's microhardness numbers (VHNs) were measured on the bottom surfaces by a microhardness tester. Data were analyzed using a 3-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a significance level of 0.05. RESULTS. The thickness of ceramic disc increased, the VHNs of all four resin types were decreased (P<.05). The mean VHN values of the resins light cured for 40 seconds were significantly higher than that of LED for 20 seconds in all four resin materials (P<.05). VLC showed significantly higher VHN values than VL regardless of other conditions (P<.05). Z350 and Z250 showed higher values than VL or VLC (P<.01). CONCLUSION. Thinner ceramic disc with increased curing time resulted higher VHN values of all resin materials. The use of a catalyst produced a greater hardness with all polymerization methods. Restorative resin materials (Z350, Z250) showed higher VHN values than resin cement materials (VL, VLC).

Influences of ceramic filler types and dose on the sintering, phase evolution, and dielectric properties of ceramic/CaO-$Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ glass composites were investigated. All of the specimens were sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ for 2 h, which conditions are required by the lowtemperature co-firing ceramic (LTCC) technology. Ceramic fillers of $Al_2O_3,\;SiO_2$, kaolin, and wollastonite were used. The addition of $Al_2O_3$ filler yielded the crystalline phases of alumina and wollastonite, and the densification over 95% of the relative density was achieved up to 50 wt% addition of the filler. For the cases of the fillers of $SiO_2$, kaolin, and wollastonite, crystalline phases of quartz, mullite, and wollastonite formed, while the densification decreased monotonically with the filler addition. In overall, all the investigated fillers with 10 wt% addition resulted in a reasonable sintering (over 95 %) and low dielectric constants (less than 6), demonstrating the feasibility of the investigated composites for application to a LTCC substrate material with a low dielectric constant.
Purpose: The deformation characteristics induced by non-destructive stresses using piezoelectric transducer(PZT) were analyzed for 3-unit fixed partial dentures manufactured PFM, Everest(CAD/CAM) and Zirkonzahn(copy milling, MAD/MAM) by electron speckle pattern interferometery(ESPI). Methods: The ESPI analysis after loading the restoration with PZT by applying electric voltage of 900mV at the points of 10 mm above the base of the prostheses. Results: PFM and All-Ceramic Everest prostheses showed about 0.1 ${\mu}m$ while that of All- Ceramic Zirkonzahn prostheses showed 0.085 ${\mu}m$, demonstrating that Zirkonzahn displaced less. For PFM and All-Ceramic Zirkonzahn prostheses, the displacements were large at just below the loading point, while generalize displacement was shown over the loading point and weak connector areas for All-Ceramic Everest prostheses. Conclusion: We could find that the deformation characteristics induced by non-destructive stresses using PZT analyzed by ESPI were similar to the fracture strengths evaluated using universal testing machine.

Cr-Si-Al-N coating with different Si content were deposited by hybrid physical vapor deposition (PVD) method consisting of unbalanced magnetron (UBM) sputtering and arc ion plating (AIP). The deposition temperature was $300^{\circ}C$, and the gas ratio of $Ar/N_2$ were 9:1. The CrSi alloy and aluminum targets used for arc ion plating and sputtering process, respectively. Si content of the CrSi alloy targets were varied with 1 at%, 5 at%, and 10 at%. The phase analysis, composition and microstructural analysis performed using x-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) including energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), respectively. All of the coatings grown with textured CrN phase (200) plane. The thickness of the Cr-Si-Al-N films were measured about $2{\mu}m$. The friction coefficient and removal rate of films were measured by a ball-on-disk test under 20N load. The friction coefficient of all samples were 0.6 ~ 0.8. Among all of the samples, the removal rate of CrSiAlN (10 at% Si) film shows the lowest values, $4.827{\times}10^{-12}mm^3/Nm$. As increasing of Si contents of the CrSiAlN coatings, the hardness and elastic modulus of CrSiAlN coatings were increased. The morphology and composition of wear track of the films was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy, respectively. The surface energy of the films were obtained by measuring of contact angle of water drop. Among all of the samples, the CrSiAlN (10 at% Si) films shows the highest value of the surface energy, 41 N/m.
Development of new ceramics and esthetic needs of patients increase the use of all ceramic restorations. Fractured teeth often need metal post and core as foundation for final restoration. When all ceramic restorations are planned, metal post and core may lead to compromised esthetics because of opacity and gray color of metal post and core. Many techniques have been proposed to solve this problem such as application of an opaque porcelain to the metal core or all ceramic post and core. This study was performed to evaluate effect on color of Empress 2 crown according to various post systems. Color was evaluated by the CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ systems and measured by spectrophotometer (Model CM-3500, Minolta, Japan). Specimens were divided into 4 groups as follows Group 1 : gold cast post specimen + Empress 2 crown specimen Group 2 : application of an opaque porcelain to gold cast post specimen + Empress 2 crown specimen Group 3 : cosmopost specimen + Empress 2 crown specimen Group 4 : In-ceram post specimen + Empress 2 crown specimen. The results obtained as follows, 1. $L^*$ Values showed that group 2, 3, 4 were higher than group 1 with significant difference and group 2, 3, 4 were not significantly different. 2. $a^*$ Values and $b^*$ values also showed that group 2. 3, 4 were higher than group 1 with significant difference and group 2, 3, 4 were not significantly different. 3. ${\Delta}E^* ab$ Values showed that ${\Delta}E^* ab$ 3 was the highest value and ${\Delta}E^* ab$ 5 was the lowest value.
PURPOSE. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the color of a background substructure on the overall color of a zirconia-based all-ceramic crown. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twenty one posterior zirconia crowns were made for twenty subjects. Seven premolar crowns and six molar crowns were cemented onto abutments with metal post and core in the first and second group. In the third group, eight molar crowns were cemented onto abutments with a prefabricated post and composite core build-up. The color measurements of all-ceramic crowns were made before try-in, before and after cementation. A repeated measure ANOVA was used for a statistical analysis of a color change of all-ceramic crowns at ${\alpha}$=.05. Twenty four zirconia specimens, with different core thicknesses (0.4-1 mm) were also prepared to obtain the contrast ratio of zirconia materials after veneering. RESULTS. $L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$ values of all-ceramic crowns cemented either on a metal cast post and core or on a prefabricated post did not show significant changes (P>.05). However, the slight color changes of zirconia crowns were detected and represented by ${\Delta}E{^*}_{ab}$ values, ranging from 1.2 to 3.1. The contrast ratios of zirconia specimens were 0.92-0.95 after veneering. CONCLUSION. No significant differences were observed between the $L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$ values of zirconia crowns cemented either on a metal cast post and core or a prefabricated post and composite core. However, the color of a background substructure could affect the overall color of posterior zirconia restorations with clinically recommended core thickness according to ${\Delta}E{^*}_{ab}$ values.
