  • Static dischargers should be installed on air vehicle to emit a static electricity during flight. Especially, If static electricity is not removed by static discharger on the air vehicle, it makes ionization and corona effect on the edge of antenna and wing. Those phenomenon bring about performance degradation for radio communication and equipment operation. In this paper, the conditions such as climate, air vehicle's speed and frontal area were analyzed to design static dischargers. As a result, the static dischargers would be optimally designed for air vehicles and the performance of the static dischargers can verify according to the functional experiment. Therefore the result of this research will be used to make static discharger installation design for new air vehicle that have different size and mission.

  • For the auto-landing operation of an air vehicle, the possibility of auto-landing operation should be first evaluated by testing the navigation performance through a flight test. In general, navigation performance is tested by analyzing north/east/down (NED) errors relative to reference equipment whose precision is about 8~10 times higher than that of a navigation system. However, to evaluate the auto-landing operation of an air vehicle, whether the air vehicle approaches a glide path aligned with the runway, within a specific error, needs to be examined rather than examining the north/east errors of the navigation system. Therefore, the longitudinal/lateral errors of air vehicle heading need to be analyzed. In this study, a method for analyzing the longitudinal/lateral errors of a navigation system was proposed as the navigation performance test method for evaluating the safety during the auto-landing of an air vehicle. Also, flight tests were performed six times, and the safety of auto-landing was examined by analyzing the performance using the proposed method.

  • It is crucial to set up early the required performance of surface ship for preventing the risk factors such as an excess of performance, cost and period in development stage. In this study, MOP and MOE are proposed to establish the method for deriving alternatives, MOP represents the defensive effect for anti ship missiles and MOE is the ratio of cost and performance. The 16 engagement scenarios which selectively install RF decoy, RF jammer, CIWS and anti air missile are suggested. The simulation results by using NORAM tool operated by ROK Navy show that the ship survivability is 0.605~0.975 and MOP is 0.301~0.887. The analyzed results represent the operating scenario with RF decoy, RF jammer and short range anti air missile is the best cost and effectiveness measure.

  • Anti-surface missiles have been the most dangerous threat to the surface ships, therefore analyzing the defense effectiveness of surface ships against diverse anti-surface missiles attack strategies is very important to evaluate and anticipate the naval combat ship's abilities in terms of AAW (Anti-Air Warfare). In this paper, we don't study on the defense effectiveness of a ship against a missile, but focus on the defense effectiveness for surface ships against multiple missiles specialized in strategies of anti-surface missiles; ripple fire attack and simultaneous time on target attack (STOT). So, we conduct a variety of monte-carlo simulations with high-fidelity simulators, analyze the measure of defense effectiveness for the key factors of strategies and evaluate the effects and possible interactions of several factors through the analysis of the design of experiment (DOE).

  • A practical range estimator based on the robust Kalman filter is proposed to solve the range estimation problem for surface to air missile(SAM) homing guidance. Apart from the previous works based on the extended Kalman filter(EKF) with bearing only measurement, the proposed scheme makes use of line-of-sight(LOS) rate to ensure the fast convergency at long-range. In this reason, the robust Kalman filter is considered to deal with LOS rate measurement error. The recursive linear structure of proposed filter is easy to implement and make it possible to reduce computational burdens. Moreover, it shows good estimation performance without specific guidance law such as oscillation proportional navigation guidance(OPNG).

  • The Korean medical evacuation helicopter was developed based on the Korean Utility Helicopter (hereafter referred to as 'Surion'). It uses an auxiliary power unit and engine for heating during winter operation. The helicopter maintains the internal temperature of the aircraft using its bleed air to satisfy its operational capability. However, due to the air inflow through the gap between the aircraft skin and door, additional heating for operating the portable medical equipment and preventing hypothermia in evacuated patients is required. Accordingly, an electric auxiliary heater was developed for additional heating during winter operation, and environmental, durability, and performance tests were conducted per MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461F. The auxiliary heater was verified per the tailored airworthiness certification criteria.

  • Recently, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency(DARPA) in the United States is studying a new concept of war called Mosaic Warfare, and MUM-T(Manned-Unmanned Teaming) through the division of missions between expensive manned and inexpensive unmanned aircraft is at the center. This study began with the aim of deriving the priority of autonomous functions according to the role of unmanned aerial vehicles in the present and present collaboration that is emerging along with the concept of mosaic warfare. The autonomous function of unmanned aerial vehicles between the presence and absence collaboration may vary in priority depending on the tactical operation of unmanned aerial vehicles, such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, and surveillance and reconnaissance. In this paper, ACE (Air Combat Evaluation), Skyborg, and Longshot, which are recently studied by DARPA, derive the priority of autonomous functions according to air-to-air collaboration, and use AHP analysis. The results of this study are meaningful in that it is possible to recognize the priorities of autonomous functions necessary for unmanned aircraft in order to develop unmanned aerial vehicles according to the priority of autonomous functions and to construct a roadmap for technology implementation. Furthermore, it is believed that the mass production and utilization of unmanned air vehicles will increase if one unmanned air vehicle platform with only essential functions necessary for air-to-air, air-to-air, and surveillance is developed and autonomous functions are expanded in the form of modules according to the tactical operation concept.
