  • Recent times have seen sustained increases in genetically modified (GM) crops not only for cultivation but also for the utility of food and feed worldwide. Domestically, commercial planting and the accidental or unintentional release of living modified (LM) crops into the environment are not approved. Many detection methods had been devised in an effort to realize effective management of the safety of agricultural genetic resources. In order to develop event-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) markers for LM crops, we analyzed the genetic information of LM crops. Genetic components introduced into crops are of key importance to provide a basis for the development of detection methods for LM crops. To this end, a total of 18 varieties from four major LM crop species (maize, canola, cotton, and soybeans) were subjected to an analysis. The genetic components included introduced genes, promoters, terminators and selection markers. Thus, if proper monitoring techniques and single or multiplex PCR strategies that rely on selection markers can be established, such an accomplishment can be regarded as a feasible solution for the safe management of staple crop resources.

  • In the path of agricultural development, agricultural mechanization has played some decisive roles such as protecting natural disaster, substitution of labor shortage in agricultural production and so on. In making our country's agricultural mechanization plan, Japanese agricultural mechanization policy has been frequently referred to but it's very hard to find informative data for systematic analysis of the mechanization policy. In this paper it was tried to analyze the resent trend in Japanese agricultural mechanization policy and it's performance with many materials published in Japan. As the results, four things are recommended to be considered in making Korean agricultural mechanization policy. First, faster enlargement of agricultural machinery size in Korea might be very harmful to drop down agricultural production cost. Second, diverse utilization methods of agricultural machniery should be introduced. Third, a marketing of the used agricultural machinery must be activated to reduce agricultural production cost. Lastly, the joint R & D for developing low price agricultural machniery is necessary for small markets.

  • Objective: The objective this paper is to introduce the agricultural ergonomics and to show the importance of it in improving the agricultural works. Background: Despite of rapid advancement of technologies and adoption of modern mechanical equipments at farms in Korea, most of agricultural works have still remained manual and thus have regarded as one of the hardest works. With aging and feminization in rural areas, the need to improve agricultural works has grown quite much. Agricultural ergonomics have been known as a good tool in improving agricultural works around the world. Recently Korean government initiated a national program of providing assistive equipments to help farmers and a few ergonomists started to apply agricultural ergonomics in our rural villages as a part of this program. Method: This study reviewed how Ergonomics was used for the agricultural work. Results: Methods of Ergonomics which are used for the agricultural ergonomics and the simple procedure of the agricultural ergonomics were presented. Conclusion: It was found that agricultural works can be improved quite much using the agricultural ergonomics principle and the musculoskeletal stress of farmers can be reduced significantly.

  • Soil moisture measuring is important for irrigation scheduling of upland crops, estimation of evapotranspiration, and hydrologic modeling. Hence, the comparative study was implemented for the soil moisture measuring instruments, Neutron probe and TDR with soil sampling methods, and the result was represented.

  • This study was carried out to examine the feasibility of urban landscape development plan that can accomodate urban agricultural lands and go well with urban environments. Effective development and utilization methods of urban agricultural lands as a part of urban landscape were studied through the analysis of public functions of urban agricultural lands by using GIS.
