The Effect of Consideration Set on Market Structure

  • We estimate a choice-based aggregate demand model accounting for consumers' consideration sets, and study its implications on market structure. In contrast to past research, we model and estimate consumer demand using aggregate-level consumer browsing data in addition to aggregate-level choice data. The use of consumer browsing data allows us to study consumer demand in a realistic setting in which consumers choose from a subset of products. We calibrate the proposed model on both data sets, avoid biases in parameter estimates, and compute the price elasticity measures. As an empirical application, we estimate consumer demand in the camcorder category and study its implications on market structure. The proposed model predicts a limited consumer price response and offers a more discriminating competitive landscape from the one assuming universal consideration set.

  • Spatiotemporal databases support methods of recording and querying for spatiotemporal data to user by offering both spatial management and historical information on various types of objects in the real world. We can answer to the following query in real world: 'What is the average of volume of pesticide sprayed for cach farm land from April to August on 2001, within some query window' Such aggregation queries have both temporal and spatial constraint. However, previous works for aggregation are attached only to temporal aggregation or spatial aggregation. So they have problems that are difficult to apply for spatiotemporal data directly which have both spatial and temporal constraint. Therefore, in this paper, we propose spatiotemporal aggregate functions for analysis of spatiotemporal data which have spatiotemporal characteristic, such as stCOUNT, stSUM, stAVG, stMAX, stMIN. We also show that our proposal resulted in the convenience and improvement of query in application systems, and facility of analysis on spatiotemporal data which the previous temporal or spatial aggregate functions are not able to analyze, by applying to the estate management system. Then, we show the validity of our algorithm performance through the evaluation of spatiotemporal aggregate functions.

  • The aim of this article is to investigate the relationship between insurance and economic growth at aggregate and disaggregate level for the period 1982-2018. Very few studies have been carried out in this field, with contradictory results and using an aggregate data while, according to different authors, an aggregate data might provide spurious results. The author used Ordinary Least Squares Regressions (OLS) and Granger Causality tests to explore the strength and direction of the relationship between insurance and economic growth at an aggregate level. To check the relationship at disaggregate level life insurance, marine insurance, and property insurance are regressed on trade openness and investment, respectively. Non-life insurance at an aggregate level plays a positive and significant role in promoting economic growth, but life insurance has an insignificant impact on the Pakistan economy. On the other hand, non-life insurances at a disaggregated level such as marine insurance negatively affect a vital part of economic growth, i.e., trade. At the same time, property insurance has a significant and positive role in boosting investment. Life, marine, and property insurance Granger cause economic growth, trade, and investment in a single direction. Nevertheless, is a bi-directional relationship between economic growth and non-life insurance.

A Study on Chloride Diffusion in Concrete Containing Lightweight Aggregate Using Crushed Stone-powder (폐석분을 활용한 경량골재 콘크리트의 염화물 확산에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide preliminary data on chloride diffusion of lightweight aggregate concrete containing crushed stone-powder. Accordingly, the study performed experiments using concrete aggregates of Crushed Aggregate (CG), Single-sized Lightweight Aggregate (SLG), Continuous Graded Lightweight Aggregate (CLG), and using water-binder ratio of 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, and using binder of FA and BFS. The chloride diffusion coefficient is calculated according to the NT BUILD 492. Diffusion coefficient of SLG and CLG were higher than that of CG concrete, but the difference was not significant. Also, chloride diffusion coefficient data indicated that it was highly affected by water-binder ratio, and it decreased with the decrease in waterbinder ratio. The admixture substitution of FA15% was effective in decreasing the diffusion coefficient only with water-binder ratio of 0.4 while admixture substitution of FA10+BFS20% was effective with all levels of water-binder ratio. The result of study shows lightweight aggregate concrete containing crushed stone-powder has slightly higher chloride diffusion coefficient than CG concrete, but the difference is not significant such that it can be overcome by adjusting water-binder ratio and admixture substitution. In addition, the data indicate the chloride diffusion coefficient of lightweight aggregate concrete can be estimated from the strength of lightweight aggregate.

An Experimental Study on the Strength of Recycled Concrete with Steam Curing (증기양생 재생콘크리트의 강도특성에 관한 실험연구)

  • Various tests are performed with the recycled concrete including compressive strength, flexural strength, splitting tensile strength, bonding strength and chloride ion penetration test. The basic data obtained from the presented test could be accumulated for the purpose of utilization in concrete structure. Most of the strength tests show that strength decrease a little extent with increasing substitution ratio of recycled coarse aggregate except splitting tensile test for the concrete with $100\%$ recycled fine aggregate. But in case of the $50\%$ substitution of recycled coarse aggregate, compressive strength, flexural strength and bonding strength are almost equal to the normal concrete. Chloride ion penetration test shows that the penetration amounts of chloride ion becomes more in proportion to the substitution ratio of recycled aggregate. But most of the results show that the permeability of recycled concrete is proper to use. The results of present study nay imply that the use of recycled aggregate for steam curing concrete is possible but the substitution ratio of recycled aggregate should be determined through further studies.

Information System for Architectural Rock & Aggregate in Major Countries and It's Implication (석재·골재 자원정보관리의 해외 사례와 시사점)

  • In Australia & Canada, architectural rock and aggregate are one of the mineral resources, and related data and information provided integrated with them. In these countries, the provided data and information, through the information system of local government and national geological survey organizations, are interactive maps, geological and thematic maps, exploration data set, 3 dimension geological models, minning rights status, survey reports and related papers etc. However, in case of Korea, aggregate and architectural rock are not assigned as the kind of mineral resources in accordance to domestic mining law, and related geological data and information are not provided from comprehensive mineral information system established in public geoscience organizations. And the administrative and informative management are conducted separately through the different governmental organizations such as Ministry of construction, Korea forest service, geoscience institute & Korea Mine & Reclamation Corporation. For securing the supply of architectural rock and aggregate resources, and for the convenience of their development & utilization, the unified information system and governance reform for the related industry is needed.

Effective Use of Micro Fines (미분의 효과적인 이용에 관한 연구)

  • Portland cement concrete is made with coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, portland cement, water and, in some cases, selected chemical admixtures such as air-entraining agents, water reducer, superplasticizer, and so on, and mineral admixtures such as fly ash, silica fume, slags, etc. Typically, in the concrete, the coarse aggregate and fine aggregate will occupy approximately 80 percent of the total volume of the final mix. Therefore, the coarse and fine aggregates affect to the properties of the portland cement concrete. As the natural sands are drained, it is necessary and economical to utilize crushed sands(manufactured fine aggregate). It is reported that crushed sands differ from natural sands in gradation, particle shape and texture, and the micro fines in the crushed sands affect to the quality of the portland cement concrete. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the characteristics of fresh and hardened concrete with high content of micro fines. This study provides firm data for the use of crushed sands with higher micro fines.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate quality of recycled fine aggregate manufactured by drying manufacturing system which is the manufacture method of high quality recycled fine aggregate, and to analyze on the fresh, hardened and durability properties of recycled concrete using it. Therefore it is to present the fundamental data for structural application of recycled concrete. The results of this study are as follows; Quality of recycled fine aggregate by drying manufacturing system is improved, and compressive and tensile strength of recycled concrete using high quality recycled fine aggregate are similar to those of normal concrete. But, durability such as carbonation, salt damage and dry shrinkage show decreased somewhat.

Recycled aggregate concrete filled steel SHS beam-columns subjected to cyclic loading

  • The present paper provides test data to evaluate the seismic performance of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) filled steel square hollow section (SHS) beam-columns. Fifteen specimens, including 12 RAC filled steel tubular (RACFST) columns and 3 reference conventional concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) columns, were tested under reversed cyclic flexural loading while subjected to constant axially compressive load. The test parameters include: (1) axial load level (n), from 0.05 to 0.47; and (2) recycled coarse aggregate replacement ratio (r), from 0 to 50%. It was found that, generally, the seismic performance of RACFST columns was similar to that of the reference conventional CFST columns, and RACFST columns exhibited high levels of bearing capacity and ductility. Comparisons are made with predicted RACFST beam-column bearing capacities and flexural stiffness using current design codes. A theoretical model for conventional CFST beam-columns is employed in this paper for square RACFST beam-columns. The predicted load versus deformation hysteretic curves are found to exhibit satisfactory agreement with test results.

  • As the waste concrete is increased by demolition according to the plan of city-reconstruction and preperation of city-environment etc, the production of waste concrete in the country is being very increased every years. Because the use of recycled aggregate is low, the cases of unlawful reclamation and disuse are increased. These occur the social and economic problems. This experimental study is to investigate the fluidity, compressive strength and durability of flowing recycled aggregate concrete using the river sand and recycled coarse aggregate according to the replacement rate of fly-ash and to present the fundamental data for the using of flowing recycled aggregate concrete.
