  • The shape of an industrial product has to be determined within the constrained conditions of keeping firmly many kinds of functional and performance requirements. On the other hand, the configuration of artistic work would be created desirably using the sense of aesthetics, even if conflicting slightly with these requirements. The development of a methodology for an aesthetic design founded on human sensitivity is becoming highly desirable in recent years. In this paper, a method of measuring beauty quantitatively for an artistic evaluation if proposed using the aesthetic cognitive theory and the optimum configuration could be found by a search using the genetic algorithm. Furthermore, an expression of optimum ship appearance can be gained as graphics.

  • This paper aims to analyze the different external images of women expressed in ancient artwork through the socio-cultural background and the aesthetic view during the Tang and Song dynasties of China. The research method contains a literature review involving the collection of historical literature, thesis, and artwork data. The image of women according to the aesthetic view of the two periods is summarized as follows. In terms of face shape, the Tang pursued a round face while the Song pursued a more slender shape. As for hair ornamentation, the Tang wore various shapes of hair buns like "Paojiaji", and decorated them with coronets. The Song wore various types of braided hair called "Tongxinji", but the coronets were smaller and more sophisticated. For makeup, the Tang wore colorful and heavy makeup and the Song makeup was lighter and more elegant. In attire, the Tang followed revealed shape, used splendid colors and thin, transparent material. The Song exhibited a more simple design and was conservative and neat, using luxurious silk fabric with low chroma. In body shape, the Tang pursued the "beauty of obesity" with a voluptuous body shape; the Song pursued the "beauty of gaunt" with a slim body shape. As the result of the analysis according to the aesthetic views of the Tang and Song dynasties, women of Tang were depicted as rich, and women of Song were rather neat. • In estimating designed architectural buildings, many factors in various design domains such as function, structure, form, environment may be considered and then a building design might be selected or modified as final design from many possible design results. This paper proposed a method to obtain complexity values from two dimensional drawings which are floor plans or elevations. The Complexity values could be turned into esthetic values. The method has been developed based on information theory, shape pattern representation and cognitive theory. Results of measuring complexity value can make the computer evaluate and select final results produced from automatic design processes by the computer That is to say, aesthetic values based on order and chaos can be measured using complexity values and then some results having superior values can be selected as final result. Also some cognitive processes as perception of two dimensional drawings are discussed using shape representations. Aesthetic values could be varied in terms of shape properties such as size, individualities and knowledge as well as order and chaos.

Subjects between the aged of 18-26 were took pictured of their faces then they were classified into 7 groups That is egg ob-long round square inverted triangle triangle and diamond shapes. At second stage two sets of experimental design were utilized based on the classified face types. A set of design was 5$\times$4 design which involved 5 levels (egg oblong round inverted triangle and diamong shape) of face type and 4 levels(round boat vee and square neckline) of basic neckline. Another set of de-sign also was 5$\times$4 design which involved 5 levels of face type and 4 levels of modified neckline. As experimental treatment the stimulus materials and questionnaires were employed. The qustionnaires were consisted of visual evaluations on the stimulus materials by using semantic differential scale,. The experiments were proceeded through 2 week by 30 subjects composed of gaduate students and staffs in some departments of Clothing and Textiles at college. Data were analyzed by Frequencies Mean Factor Analysis TTest ANOVA and Ducan's Multiple Range Test. The major results were as followed: 1. There were significant aesthetic effects of face type on visual evaluations, Especially egg and inverted triangle shape among the face types were evaluated more aesthetic than the other face shapes. 2. There were signifiant aesthetic effects of the neckline types on visual evaluations, Es-pecially vee neckline among necklines were more aesthetic than the other necklines,. 3. As compared with the basic neckline types and the modified neckline types the modified necklines were assessed more aes-thetically than the basic necklines. 4, The face type and he neckline type were influenced interactively on visual evauations Specifically it showed that oblong round and diamond shape of face type were matched to vee neckline more than the other necklines, Also it showed that the egg and inverted tri-angle shape wee matched to round vee and squre neckline more than boat neckline.

  • The purpose of this article is to study the design and construction of Anap pond with a comparative study of ancient palace ponds in Korea, China and Japan. Anap pond was excavated in 1975-6 and is the oldest orignal pond to be found among Koran garden sites. Anap pond was made just before Shilla drove out Tang, after Shilla ruined Paekjae and Koguryo with the Tang army. This was a time Shilla enjoyed a multi-cultural situation due to interaction with Paekjae and Koguryo refugees, as well as information provided by the ambassadors sent to Tang who were well aquainted with Tang culture. Anap pond shows the influence of not only the indigenous mountain-god myth, but also the theoretical background common among Korea, China and Japan. But it also depicts the special form of space inbued with the exquisite aesthetic taste of Shilla people, which started with Anap pond hardened in Gaen temple, and which bloomed in Sukgulam. Scenery structure analysis gives a supposition of the center building on the western coatland, and sequential analysis gives the feeling of being at sea, analysised by root square shape analysis, equal ratio square shape and golden section, sow we can see the planned space organization by speculated planning. Thus, Anap pond is a garden of Shilla in which the cultural exchange has been inculturated and made our own, and the special aesthetic taste embodied.
