This study explored the philosophical Modernity with the Enlightenment in relation to cultural and aesthetic modernism rooted in Modern furniture, which directly reflected modern culture and society with rationality, science, individualism, progressive, universal truths, etc, using qualitative analysis about the related literature as the principal methodology. A fundamental philosophy of the modern furniture influenced by Industrial Revolution is that the dictates of function and industrial technology must be decided by form. The theory and practice of the International Style in modern furniture came from the modern aesthetics in the philosophy of Modernity. As a result, as influenced through the Enlightenment project and the relationship of individual to society in relation to cultural and aesthetic modernism, and the three modern movements with furniture, which are Arts and Crafts movement, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco, represented the beginning style of modern furniture design toward functionalism or minimalism.

The purpose of this study is to find aesthetic characteristics of Korean and Japanese women's traditional costumes in Modernization that happened in Korea and Japan during the late 19th century and the 20th century. The meaning of modernity has indefinite and comprehensive aspects, and the essence of modernity is found in searching for new changes. Modernization is the process of realizing modernity, and costume modernization can be discussed from the viewpoint of seeking new changes, functionality and popularization of costume. As Korean and Japanese costumes went through modernization, western costume became daily clothes of both two countries. The modernization of Korean and Japanese women's traditional costumes were achieved in the two directions. First, Korean and Japanese women's traditional costumes changed to search for functionality modeled of western costume. Korean costume went through dress reform movement and were generally simplified. Japanese costume made a change of wearing mode and introduced new garment like 'Hakama'. Second, the new style of traditional costume appeared. In Korea, 'Saenghwal Hanbox' was shown in the late 20c and in Japan, The reproduced dress(更生服)' and The women's standard dress(婦人標準服)' were shown in the late 1930's and the early 1940's. These kinds of new garment style were the more active compromise between the East and the West.

The purpose of this paper is to study on the aesthetic modernity of Baekseok's poetry. They say that Baekseok's poetry have the motives of the folk-customs and his native language which have been studied for the purpose of showing the subject character of Baekseok's poetry. Baekseok's poetry consisted of the dark imagery are based on the reality of our national loss and his lose living, so the approaching for the purpose of showing the subject character is more suitable for the understanding of the world of his poetry. But this paper Is approached by what the aesthetic modernity of Baekseok's poetry is, because the understanding of how the modem poetry are composed of is more important reading pattern on them. The special feature of his poetry is composed of the ironic poetics figured by the anti-subjectivity like the stylistic of the Imagism, the child narrator, and the pessimist narrator. His poetry written by the Imagism stand for the Apollo Modernism, and his poetry written by the child narrator and the pessimist narrator stand for the Dionysus Modernism. His poetry anti-subjected through the Imagism have been written with the motives of the home-nature and the native people, which have created the objective modernity. His poetry through the child narrator have been written with the motives of our folk-customs, and them through the pessimist narrator have been written with the paradoxical speech, which have created the subjective modernity. Especially, the Shamanism-poetry through the child narrator have created the aesthetik of the Schreckens. Others have created the ironic poetics through the anti-subjectivity and the exaggerated paradoxical rhetoric. In conclusion, it is more reasonable point of view that the special feature of Baekseok's poetry is based on the dual modernism like the Apollo and the Dionysus.

This study aims to show how tradition and modernity has interacted to produce the aesthetic consciousness of body and dress in contemporary Korea. For this purpose, documentary studies were proceeded. And photos of the modern Korean dress from 1980 to 1997 were analyzed. The results are as follows: First, the body form was studied in terms of exposure and concealment of the physical body parts and the perception of body was classified into two categories, the abstract and the realistic. And the dress form was studied in silhouette and the perception of dress was assorted as body priority and clothes priority. Second, the aesthetic values of body were categorized to divinity, humanity and sexuality. And the aesthetic values of dress were defined in relation to the aesthetic values of body as ascetic beauty, pure beauty, natural beauty and erotic beauty. Third, while the traditional Korean costume (Hanbok) pursues the aesthetic values of divinity and humanity of human body and ascetic beauty, pure beauty and natural beauty on the aesthetic values of humanity of human body and the pure beauty and natural beauty of dress. The contemporary Korean fashion expresses the aesthetic values of divinity, humanity and sexuality of human body and the aesthetic values of ascetic beauty, pure beauty, natural beauty and erotic beauty of dress. In conclusion, the emphasis of sexuality of body and erotic beauty of dress in the modern Korean dress can be interpreted as the change of the aesthetic consciousness of body and dress in contemporary Korean by the influence of the western modernity.

Art grows with the development of human civilization. Many art forms exist to connect the past and the future. Oil painting, a form of western painting, has flourished in China since its entry into China. In the continuous exploration of artistic language, Chinese artists have formed art forms with Chinese characteristics, permeated Chinese painting ideas and techniques, and formed specialized painting language. Through the oil painting works, the Chinese oriental aesthetic, national spirit, local customs and other times of humanistic features. As one of the many practitioners of oil painting in China, the author starts from the ego and continuously explores and studies in the practice of art. This paper mainly discusses the embodiment of Chinese oil painting modernity in the oriental art context and analyzes the spiritual temperament and painting materials, so as to expand the creative thinking of Chinese oil painting modernity in the oriental art context.

This study focuses on the analysis of Baudelaire's aesthetic perspective which has established a theoretical basis on research of the critical reviews' salon exhibitions as written by Baudelaire. Charles Pierre Baudelaire(1821-1867) having lived during the latter part of Neo-classicism and the era of Romanticism and Impressionism, Baudelaire displayed opposition to customary realities such as social ideology or religious authority that suppressed human nature. Also he pioneered a new genre known as art criticism and wrote much that provided important insights on the essential elements of artistic work, modernity and trend, as well as art definition and art categories. The aesthetic perspective and creative spirit were formed by Baudelaire, during his age were also reconfirmed in the successive ages of modernism and postmodernism. As such, this study sheds light on how Baudelaire's aesthetic perspective was not only temporarily assertion but it is consistently applied to modern art and fashion area. What is more important that, Baudelaire admired new artificial beauty that is created by the human soul liberated from natural instincts or desires. Especially, informed by strangeness and distinctiveness, Baudelaire's view of fashion ran along the same vein as his view of art, and these views form the basis of that creative spirit which situated western fashion on a center of the world. In conclusion, the research on Baudelaire's aesthetic perspective will reaffirm a firm awareness of the creative spirit essential to globally-oriented creative artists and designers who work within the circumstance of the 21st century, a time when the paving of new aesthetic paths is necessary. The research also offers a clear understanding of the aesthetic values demanded by this age.

Black has played a more important role in the history of fashion than other colors. In general, black was regarded as a color of negative images. However, as people have recognized the aesthetic value of black color, they have expressed unique and various images of black through the medium of clothes. This study was based on both theory research and actual survey, where survey sheets were distributed to collect data. For data analysis, SPSS 10.0, a statistics software, was used, and frequency, pecentage, t-test, ANOVA test, and Duncan test were adopted and analyzed. The survey was conducted on 608 men over 20 in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Gangwon Province, and other areas for two months from May 20, 2005 to July 25, 2005. The analysis showed the following results. First, Dignity was the mostly cited image of black color among men followed by modernity, sorrow, feminineness, abstinence, and sensuality. Second, Men showed different responses according to their age. In sum, men more strongly recognize abstinence and sensuality in black dress as they become older. Marital status significantly affected men's recognition of black dress in terms of abstinence and sensuality. Abstinence was more strongly recognized by married men than single men. In addition, married men pointed out sensuality of black dress more frequently than single men. In short, married men tended to recognize abstinence and sensuality more easily than single men. Education level clearly affected men's recognition of dignity, modernity, and abstinence in black dress. In sum, as men got higher education, they tended to increasingly recognize dignity and modernity in black dress. In conclusion, this study has proved that black dress has unique aesthetic values and reflects various images according to age, marital status, education level.

Since the ancient times, black has been the most valuable color. Also, it has played a more important role in a history of fashion than other colors. In general, black was regarded as a color of negative images. However, as people have recognized the aesthetic value of black color, they have expressed unique and various images of black through the medium of clothes. This studies on images of black dress for woman was based on reference to literatures and valid investigations. The images toward black clothing are categorized by study participants' perceptions according to age, marital status and education. The result was as followed. Dignity and modernity were the most frequently cited image of black dress among women followed by feminine, sorrow, sensuality, and abstinence. Age significantly affected the recognition of black dress images. Woman showed significant difference in recognizing dignity, modernity, sensuality, and sorrow in black dress according to their age. Woman more strongly recognize dignity and modernity in black dress when they are younger, while increasingly recognizing abstinence and sensuality in black dress as they become older. Marital status significantly affected woman's recognition of black dress. They showed meaningful difference in recognizing dignity, modernity, and abstinence in black color. In sum, single women recognized more easily dignity and modernity in black dress and less easily abstinence than married women. Women also showed the trend with relation to education level. In general, as women got higher education, they also increasingly recognized dignity and modernity in black dress.

The purpose of this research is for confirming the aesthetics of 'little black dress' as one of the important items in contemporary women's fashion lives. Through the work, what is the aesthetic value that women really needed can be found. This research was processed by literal material with fashion photos, fashion books and articles which were related fashion trend from 1920 to 1990. The results are as follows ; The birth period of little black dress was 1920s to 1930s. Freedom and modernity was represented by little black dress. European elegance and American smartness were expressed on this item through 1950s to 1960s. In the end of 20th century, 'little black dress' has diversity just like fashion trend. As the aesthetics characteristics of little black dress, (1) contemporary woman's identity through chic and modernity (2) strong power of passing image (3) dual values of temptation and tatoo were found. Therefore this research can be useful to extent the meaning of little black dress in fashion study and to recognize contemporary women's needs.

Ornament in late nineteenth century Art Nouveau movement, especially abstract ornament in Viennese Art Nouveau, has a very complex aesthetical background. Ornament, for them was not just decorations in outer appearance, but a determinant element of formal languages. Abstract ornament in Viennese Art Nouveau has its theoretical and aesthetical bases in the Interpretation of nature, that is, the theory of the abstract ornament was founded on a new interpretation of nature, which, in its turn, was derived from the differentiational selection of the contemporary views of nature. The modernity of abstract ornament consists in the very fact that it was founded on a new interpretation of nature. This study alms at reviewing how the new interpretation of nature by abstract ornament criticized, rejected and accepted the contemporary views of nature. The overall tendency of this study is to synthesize and analyze the historical background of Viennes Art-Nouveau in regard to aesthetic theories of nature. The analysis method of this study is interpretation of written documents which are related to the issue.
