Two factors are required for a virtual reality system; realism and immersion. Since realism is determined primarily by the realistic image, objects in a virtual environment should be represented with details by their own characteristics. Also, reflection on light must be considered. On the other hand, immersion is defined as realistic movements and fast interactions. Thus, virtual environment should be rendered as fast as possibl. Regular frame rate should also be kept to make moves as intended by the user. In a complex virtual environment composed of objects with various levels, the appropriate level for individual object should be assigned according to the view point, in other words, the selection of level-of-detail is needed. In this paper, the problem of determining the levels of detail is formalized in terms of error, cost and L -distance. Error is defined as the difference between the current level image and the highest level image, cost as rendering time, and L-distance as the level difference between the previous and the current level. To solve this problem, a new method called the well-distributed adaptive algorithmis proposed.
The parallel/distributed processing with a lot of the idle hosts on the web has the high coot-performance ratio for large-scale applications. It's processing has to show the solutions for unpredictable status such as heterogeneity of hosts, variability of hosts, autonomy of hosts, the supporting performance continuously, and the number of hosts which are participated in computation and so on. In this paper, we propose the strategy of adaptive tack reallocation based on performance the host job processing, spread out geographically Also, It shows the scheme of dynamic host management with dynamic environment, which is changed by lots of hosts on the web during parallel processing for large-scale applications. This paper implements the PDSWeb (Parallel/Distributed Scheme on Web) system, evaluates and applies It to the generation of rendering image with highly intensive computation. The results are showed that the adaptive task reallocation with the variation of hosts has been increased up to maximum 90% and the improvement in performance according to add/delete of hosts.

Concrete carbonation is a prevalent phenomenon that leads to steel reinforcement corrosion in reinforced concrete (RC) structures, thereby decreasing their service life as well as durability. The process of carbonation results in a lower pH level of concrete, resulting in an acidic environment with a pH value below 12. This acidic environment initiates and accelerates the corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete, rendering it more susceptible to damage and ultimately weakening the overall structural integrity of the RC system. Lower pH values might cause damage to the protective coating of steel, also known as the passive film, thus speeding up the process of corrosion. It is essential to estimate the carbonation factor to reduce the deterioration in concrete structures. A lot of work has gone into developing a carbonation model that is precise and efficient that takes both internal and external factors into account. This study presents an ML-based adaptive-neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) approach to predict the carbonation depth of fly ash (FA)-based concrete structures. Cement content, FA, water-cement ratio, relative humidity, duration, and CO2 level have been used as input parameters to develop the ANFIS model. Six performance indices have been used for finding the accuracy of the developed model and two analytical models. The outcome of the ANFIS model has also been compared with the other models used in this study. The prediction results show that the ANFIS model outperforms analytical models with R-value, MAE, RMSE, and Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency index values of 0.9951, 0.7255 mm, 1.2346 mm, and 0.9957, respectively. Surface plots and sensitivity analysis have also been performed to identify the repercussion of individual features on the carbonation depth of FA-based concrete structures. The developed ANFIS-based model is simple, easy to use, and cost-effective with good accuracy as compared to existing models.

Exhbitlon hghting design be done aftrr due consideration of the photochermcal reaction and h ~ ~ i i tc~.fficits~ upn exposure to light. In this study the balanced judgement is as follows. The most light-susceptible material shouid be illu~stratrui less than 50[k] (illurnlnance-hours per year : 120, 000k.h)and the illuminance of moderately sensitive rriatcrinl k 200[1x] (illuminance hours per year : 480, 0001x.h). Moreover to minimize damage the sources of light shoulcl not only contribute as little as heat possible but remove ultraviolt radiation by filters. Also the sources of light must have good color rendering and low color temperature.
This paper is concerned with the real-time automatic tuning of the multi-input multi-output positive position feedback controllers for smart structures by the genetic algorithms. The genetic algorithms have proven its effectiveness in searching optimal design parameters without falling into local minimums thus rendering globally optimal solutions. The previous real-time algorithm that tunes a single control parameter is extended to tune more parameters of the MIMO PPF controller. We employ the MIMO PPF controller since it can enhance the damping value of a target mode without affecting other modes if tuned properly. Hence, the traditional positive position feedback controller can be used in adaptive fashion in real time. The final form of the MIMO PPF controller results in the centralized control, thus it involves many parameters. The bounds of the control Parameters are estimated from the theoretical model to guarantee the stability. As in the previous research, the digital MIMO PPF control law is downloaded to the DSP chip and a main program, which runs genetic algorithms in real time, updates the parameters of the controller in real time. The experimental frequency response results show that the MIMO PPF controller tuned by GA gives better performance than the theoretically designed PPF. The time response also shows that the GA tuned MIMO PPF controller can suppress vibrations very well.
We present a scheme and a data structure that decompose the space into adaptive-sized cells to improve the visualization of soft objects. Soft objects are visualized through the evaluation of the field functions at every point of the space. According to the propsed scheme, the affecting soft objects for a point in the space is searched through the data structure called interval tree based on the bounding volume of the components, which represent a soft object whose defining primitive(skeleton) is a simple geometric object such as point or line segment. The bounding volume of each component is generated with respect to the radius of a local field function of the component, threshold value, and the relations between the components and other neighboring components. The proposed scheme can be used in many applications for soft objects such as modeling and rendering, especially in interactive modeling process.
In this paper, we propose an algorithm for object generation from model-based 3-dimensional multi-viewpoint images using OpenGL rendering. In the first step, we preprocess a depth map image in order to get a three-dimensional coordinate which is sampled as a vertex information on OpenGL and has a z-value as depth information. Next, the Delaunay Triangulation algorithm is used to construct a polygon for texture-mapping using the vertex information. Finally, by mapping a texture image on the constructed polygon, we generate a viewpoint-adaptive object by calculating 3-dimensional coordinates on OpenGL.
With the growing trends of communication- broadcasting convergence, a hybrid IPTV that supports both IP network-based on-demand media and terrestrial or cable-based broadcast media is gaining attraction. This paper proposes a rich media framework for hybrid IPTV with support of the latest H.264 codec. For this purpose, we design and implement a media component and a RIA run-time engine customized for TV with the hybrid media. The media component has been designed to provide a uniform and efficient application interface to the various playback methods for RF broadcast and IP-based stored or live media. For performance and portability, it exploits media stream abstraction, adaptive on-demand I-frame search, and automatic calculation of play duration. Based on the proposed media interface, we develop a RIA run-time prototype. It has been carefully designed to fully utilize the built-in graphic acceleration hardware for optimized rendering in the resource-constrained IPTV environments. Demonstration and experiment results validate the performance and usefulness of the developed framework. The framework is expected to be used effectively to support graphics and hybrid media in the applications of IPTV-based VOD, advertisement, and education.
This paper is concerned with the real-time automatic tuning of the positive position feedback controller for smart structures by the genetic algorithms. The genetic algorithms haute proven its effectiveness in searching optimal design parameters without falling into local minimums thus rendering globally optimal solutions. The advantage of the positive position feedback controller is that if it is tuned properly it can enhance the damping value of a target mode without affecting other modes. In this paper, we develop for the first time a real-time algorithm for determining a tuning frequency of the PPF controller based on the genetic algorithms. To this end, the digital PPF control law is downloaded to the DSP chip and a main program, which runs the genetic algorithms in real time, updates the parameter of the controller in real time. Hence, any kind of control including the positive position feedback controller can be used in adaptive fashion in real time. Experimental results show that the real-time tuning of the positive position feedback controller can be achieved successfully. so that vibrations are suppressed satisfactorily.

The prediction of the actual ultimate capacity of confined concrete columns requires partial confinement utilization under eccentric loading. This is attributed to the reduction in compression zone compared to columns under pure axial compression. Modern codes and standards are introducing the need to perform extreme event analysis under static loads. There has been a number of studies that focused on the analysis and testing of concentric columns. On the other hand, the augmentation of compressive strength due to partial confinement has not been treated before. The higher eccentricity causes smaller confined concrete region in compression yielding smaller increase in strength of concrete. Accordingly, the ultimate eccentric confined strength is gradually reduced from the fully confined value $f_{cc}$ (at zero eccentricity) to the unconfined value $f^{\prime}_c$ (at infinite eccentricity) as a function of the ratio of compression area to total area of each eccentricity. This approach is used to implement an adaptive Mander model for analyzing eccentrically loaded columns. Generalization of the 3D moment of area approach is implemented based on proportional loading, fiber model and the secant stiffness approach, in an incremental-iterative numerical procedure to achieve the equilibrium path of $P-{\varepsilon}$ and $M-{\varphi}$ response up to failure. This numerical analysis is adapted to assess the confining effect in rectangular columns confined with conventional lateral steel. This analysis is validated against experimental data found in the literature showing good correlation to the partial confinement model while rendering the full confinement treatment unsafe.
