  • Aalto designed his own modern architecture in comparison with other modern architects of his days. It is because Aalto went beyond the principle of dogmatic functionalism based on his attitude not to copy images of functionalism but to fulfill function of the building. He decided architectural form and space according to logical basis including the effective use of light and sound. Vuoksenniska church, as is called the most exceptional and notable church in his works, was designed based on the fulfillment of program. As he knew that the program needed the extension of the main church space into social areas, he put emphasis on individuality of space rather than the wholeness of space. Sound and light analysis of Vuoksenniska church shows that Aalto tried to have adequate environment of each space at the start and Integrate them later. The spatial configuration of Vuoksenniska church shows that the individuality of space has priority over the wholeness of spaces. Discordance between roof form and ceiling is the best example for this matter. Aalto designed various windows that have different sizes, figure and location to induce desirable light for each space of the church. He also adjusted the shape of the ceiling and the angle of wall for a effective sound transmission. This result indicates that he knew the activity of the church is normally confined to one weekly morning and the whole space Is hardly used as a religious purpose.

  • The purpose of this study is to present the direction of the new space plan by reflecting the opinions of the user (student) in the existing standardized elementary school space planning. The purpose of this study is to investigate the activities of elementary school students by using socio - spatial network analysis method and to propose the direction of new elementary school space planning through the results. We analyzed the results of each centrality by using the analysis of closeness analysis, betweeness analysis, girvan-newman clustering, and concor analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, it should be planned to use the classroom and the special room as one area by utilizing the corridor. Second, it should be planned that the outdoor space and the indoor space are closely related to each other by utilizing the hall, the lobby and the classroom. Third, the school should create a small space where physical activity is possible in an indoor space of the school. In order to improve the standardized elementary school space, this study proposes a method to reflect the opinions of the users in the school planning stage.

  • Objectives: In spite of the importance of green space for reducing obesity-related problems, there has been little exploration of whether access to green space (e.g., parks and recreational facilities) influences the obesity rate of adults in the United States. The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationships among accessibility of green space, obesity rates, and socioeconomic and demographic variables among adults living in the State of Indiana, United States. Methods: We conducted a secondary data analysis to investigate the relationships among accessibility to green space, obesity rates, and socio-demographic variables with employing Geographic Information System in order to measure the accessibility of green space. Results: This study found that accessibility of green space served as a strong predictor of reduced obesity rates among adults (β=-2.478; p<0.10). In addition, adults with higher education levels, as well as better access to green space, were found to have even lower obesity rates (β=-0.188; p<0.05). Other control variables such as unemployment rates, food security, and physical inactivity are additional factors that influence obesity rates among adults. Conclusions: Accessibility of green space may play an important role in facilitating physical activity participation and reducing obesity rates.

  • There was a research on the prolongation of solar cycle 23 by the solar cyclic variation of solar, interplanetary geomagnetic parameters by Oh & Kim (2013). They also suggested that the sunspot number cannot typically explain the variation of total solar irradiance any more. Instead of the sunspot number, a new index is introduced to explain the degree of solar activity. We have analyzed the frequency of sunspot appearance, the length of solar cycle, and the rise time to a solar maximum as the characteristics of solar cycle. Then, we have examined the predictability of solar activity by the characteristics of preceding solar cycle. We have also investigated the hemispheric variation of flare index for the periods that the leading sunspot has the same magnetic polarity. As a result, it was found that there was a good correlation between the length of preceding solar cycle and spotless days. When the length of preceding solar cycle gets longer, the spotless days increase. It is also shown that the shorter rise time to a solar maximum is highly correlated with the increase of sunspots at a solar maximum. Therefore, the appearance frequency of spotless days and the length of solar cycle are more significant than the general sunspot number as an index of declining solar activity. Additionally, the activity of flares leads in the northern hemisphere and is stronger in the hemisphere with leading sunspots in positive polarity than in the hemisphere with leading sunspots in negative polarity. This result suggests that it is necessary to analyze the magnetic polarity's effect on the flares and to interpret the period from the solar maximum to solar maximum as the definition of solar cycle.

  • Management of geo-workflow's changes is one of growing issues and requires more advanced ways and methods to deal with heterogeneous modifications and interactions of process, activity and event over time. A few dominant workflow models have coped with these subjects. There is, however, little consensus for explanation of six dimensions with regard to actor, activity, space, time, reason and effect. This study begins with examining environments of six dimensions and the Hexad model is proposed to elucidate the causes and results of a wide variety of geo-processes and activities. In this paper, we will introduce Hexad Object Activity Model making it possible to interpret manifest motivations, conditions and actions. Full descriptions of six dimensions are often useful for applying to the handling of diverse activities particularly requiring to clarify actor's goal and role at a specific time and space.

  • Nursing Homes are different from other medical facilities, because they have a living space. And most of residents in a nursing home have dementia, therefore nursing homes are in control of outdoor activities for resident's safety and most of residents live in the living room at the daytime. The purpose of this study is analysis of spacial behaviors of residents in the living room, and reflection of the analysis into the architectural plan of nursing homes. There are two activities, individual activity and social interchange activity, in a living room and the role of a living room is semi-private space that includes both of them. Most numerous activities are watching TV and take a eat. Activities are different in accordance with the position at the living room. Individual activity and social interchange activity is same ratio in the middle and the ratio of social interchange activities are more than individuals in outside of living room. but alcove use of private. The types of living rooms are distinguished by combination of functions of livingroom, activity-room, and diningroom. The activity of use of residents have been shown different phases following the types of livingroom. The type of combination has been seen high rate of use and private activities and social communications are expressed evenly. The type of mixing has been seen low rae of use, but two activities, the above, are equal. The type of separation has been seen not only low rate of use, but also there has been only private activities.

  • Media company is not a business which sells news and information but a company sells audience's attention. Advertisers estimate audience's quantity and quality which pay attention to media and pay the cost. Thus drawing audience's attention is a natural and instinctive behavior for survival of media company. News doesn't deliver the fact just as it. That's impossible. News is a commodity made by processing and selection of the media company and journalist. On the process, judge of values is involved and limitation of time and place of media is considered. If scientists understand media's character truly, their misunderstanding about media company and journalist may be cleared up. In this society, media is not a being to ignore, particularly for big science like space science which spends huge public capital. Nowadays, space science meets the time to take the leap in Korea. However that can be crisis cause of uncertainty of science activity. When the crisis which no one desires happens, preparation needs for new opportunity. We can take the crisis as a chance. Understanding about media and public will be the first step for this preparation.
