The regenerated silk fibroin with various molecular weights (MW) was prepared by different dissolution condition and the effect of coagulant on the wet spinnability of the various MW silk fibroin solutions dissolved in formic acid was investigated by the observation of wet spun filament in coagulant and the measurement of maximum draw ratio. The observation on the wet spun filament in coagulation bath revealed that good fibers without bead were formed in a high MW and a very high MW silk fibroin samples. In contrast, beads were observed in the silk fibroin sample with medium MW. The maximum draw ratio of wet spun silk fibroin filament decreased with MW reduction. The decrease of maximum draw ratio in isopropanol, acetone, DMF and THF was remarkably higher than that in methanol and ethanol, indicating that the coagulant type strongly influenced the wet spinnability. The two simple evaluation methods used in this study showed complementary information for wet spinnability: (a) The observation of filament in coagulant was effective to check a continuous fiber formation and a bead formation, and (b) the maximum draw ratio measurement was useful to examine the post drawing ability related to molecular orientation.
High energy ball milling is employed to produce iron matrix- multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) reinforced composite. The damage caused to MWCNT due to harsh ball milling condition and its influence on interfacial bonding is studied. Different amount of MWCNT is used to find the optimal percentage of MWCNT for avoidance of the formation of chemical reaction product at the matrix - reinforcement interface. Effect of process control agent is assessed by the use of different materials for the purpose. It is observed that ethanol as a process control agent (PCA) causes degradation of MWCNT reinforcements after milling for two hours whereas solid stearic acid used as process control agent, allows satisfactory conservation of MWCNT structure. It is further noted that at a high MWCNT content (~ 2wt.%), high energy ball milling leads to reaction of iron and carbon and forms iron carbide (cementite) at the iron-MWCNT interface. At low percentage of MWCNT, dissolution of carbon in iron takes place and the amount of reinforcement in iron matrix composite becomes negligibly small. However, under the present ball milling condition (ball to metal ratio~ 6:1 and 200 rpm vial speed) iron-1wt.% MWCNT composite of good interfacial bonding can retain the tubular structure of reinforcing MWCNT.
In order to investigate the feasibility and advantage of tuff used as pozzolan in cement-based composite, the representative specimens of tuff were collected, and their chemical compositions, proportion of vitreous phase, mineral species, and rock structure were measured by chemical composition analysis, petrographic analysis, and XRD. Pozzolanic activity strength index of tuff was tested by the ratio of the compression strength of the tuff/cement mortar to that of a control cement mortar. Pozzolanic reaction degree, and the contents of CH and bond water in the tuff/cement paste were determined by selective hydrochloric acid dissolution, and DSC-TG, respectively. The tuffs were demonstrated to be qualified supplementary binding material in cement-based composite according to relevant standards. The tuffs possessed abundant $SiO_2+Al_2O_3$ on chemical composition and plentiful content of amorphous phase on rock texture. The pozzolanic reaction degrees of the tuffs in the tuff/cement pastes were gradually increased with prolongation of curing time. The consistency of CH consumption and pozzolanic reaction degree was revealed. Variation of the pozzolanic reaction degree was enhanced with the bond water content and relationship between them appeared to satisfy an approximating linear law. The fitting linear regression equation can be applied to mutual conversion between pozzolanic reaction degree and bond water content.

As an example of research activities in decontamination for decommissioning, new data are presented on the options for corrosion layer dissolution during the decommissioning decontamination, or persulfate regeneration for decontamination solutions re-use. For the management of spent decontamination solutions, new method based on solvent extraction of radionuclides into ionic liquid followed by electrodeposition of the radionuclides has been developed. Fields of applications of composite inorganic-organic absorbers or solid extractants with polyacrylonitrile (PAN) binding matrix for the treatment of liquid radioactive waste are reviewed; a method for americium separation from the boric acid containing NPP evaporator concentrates based on the TODGA-PAN material is discussed in more detail. Performance of a model of radionuclide transport, developed and implemented within the GoldSim programming environment, for the safety studies of the LLW/ILW repository is demonstrated on the specific case of the Richard repository (Czech Republic). Continuation and even broadening of these activities are expected in connection with the approaching end of the lifespan of the first blocks of the Czech NPPs.
A two-step process for increasing the leaching efficiency of yttrium and neodymium from coal fly ash were investigated at solid loadings of 5.0 g ash ~1,000 g ash/l of 1.0 N~10.0 N H2SO4, temperature ranging from 30℃ to 90℃, ultrasonic leaching time of 1~10 hours, and ultrasonic power of 25~200 W. The yttrium and neodymium from coal fly ash were effectively leached into ion phases by step change of the first conventional dissolution at room temperature and then the second heating process with the aid of ultrasonic wave, and maximum leaching efficiency of yttrium and neodymium obtained were 66 % and 63 %, respectively. The activation energies for the leaching reaction of yttrium and neodymium at second heating process dependent on leaching time and temperature were derived to be 41.540 kJmol-1 and 507.92 kJmol-1, respectively. The optimum conditions for the maximum leaching of yttrium and neodymium were found to be the solid loading of 250 g ash/l of H2SO4, solvent concentration of 2.0 N H2SO4, and second step process of temperatures of 30℃ for 3 hours and then 90℃ for 4 hours with ultrasonic intensity of 100 W.

The aim of this paper is to study corrosion inhibition of Aluminum with Capparis decidua extract. The study was performed in a 1.0 M solution of hydrochloric acid (HCl) and was monitored both by measuring mass loss and by using electrochemical and polarization methods. A scanning electron microscopy (SEM) technique was also applied for surface morphology analysis. The results revealed high inhibition efficiency of Capparis decidua extract. Our data also determined that efficiency is governed by temperature and concentration of extract. Optimum (88.2%) inhibitor efficiency was found with maximum extract concentration at 45 o C. The results also showed a slight diminution of aluminum dissolution when the temperature is low. Based on the Langmuir adsorption model, Capparis decidua adsorption on the aluminum surface shows a high regression coefficient value. From the results, the activation enthalpy (∆H#) and activation entropy (∆S#) were estimated and discussed. In conclusion, the study clearly shows that Capparis decidua extract acted against aluminum corrosion in acidic media by forming a protective film on top of the aluminum surface.
Under anoxic conditions, this study investigated removal of dissolved As(III) by Si and Al oxides including natural sand, chemically washed sand (silica), alumina, and activated alumina. Despite the similar surface area, natural sand showed greater extents of As(III) sorption than chemically washed sand. This was likely due to the high reactivity of Fe(oxyhydr)oxide impurities on the surface of natural sand. For both sands, As(III) sorption was the greatest at pH 7.1, in agreement with the weakly dissociating tendency of arsenous acid. Also, the least sorption was observed at pH 9.6. At basic pH, elevated silicate, which originated from the dissolution of silica in sands, would compete with As(III) for sorption. Due to the highest surface area, activated alumina was found to quantitatively immobilize the initially added As(III) (6.0×10-7-2.0×10-5 M). Alumina showed As(III) sorption compared to or greater than chemically washed sand, although the former had less than 6% of the surface of area the latter. The greater reactivity of alumina than chemically washed sand can be explained by using the shared charge of oxygen.
This study aimed to develop a solid self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (solid-SNEDDS) to enhance the formulation of ketoconazole (KTZ), a BCS Class II drug with poor solubility. Ketoconazole, which is insoluble above pH 3, requires solubilization for effective delivery. This SNEDDS comprises oil, surfactant, and co-surfactant, which spontaneously emulsify in the gastrointestinal tract environment to form nanoemulsions with droplet sizes less than 100 nm. The optimal SNE-vehicle composition of oleic acid, TPGS, and PEG 400 at a 10:80:10 weight ratio was determined based on the smallest droplet size achieved. This composition was used to prepare liquid SNEDDS containing ketoconazole. The droplet size and polydispersity index (PDI) of the resulting liquid SNEDDS were analyzed. Subsequently, solid-SNEDDS was fabricated using a spray-drying method with solidifying carriers such as silicon dioxide, crospovidone, and magnesium alumetasilicate. The physicochemical properties of the solid-SNEDDS were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and powder X-ray diffraction, and its solubility, droplet size, and PDI were evaluated. In particular, the solid-SNEDDS containing ketoconazole and crospovidone in a 2:1 weight ratio exhibited significantly enhanced solubility, highlighting its potential for improved medication adherence and dissolution rates.
This study reports on the efficiency of cleaning enameled magnet wire using a sulfuric acid $H_2SO_4$ and removal of dissolved organic material using hydrogen peroxide $H_2O_2$ and nitric acid $HNO_3$ at $80^{\circ}C$. The method involves the addition of pure $H_2SO_4$ and $H_2O_2$ or $HNO_3$. Layers of enameled organic material were dissolved by 90% $H_2SO_4$ and the solution was maintained as 35% $H_2O_2$ or 60% $HNO_3$. $H_2O_2$ content in aqueous $H_2O_2$ was maintained as 8.8 : 1.0. An initial concentration of $H_2SO_4$ in dissolution conditions was accomplished within 15 min, with a stripping time of about 2 h. The concentrations of $H_2O_2$ and $HNO_3$ in the processing bath were relatively low, but sufficient enough to produce an effective amount of power in the bath for the removal of the enamel material. The cleaning effect of enameled organic material involves the dehydration by $H_2SO_4$ and the oxidation by $H_2O_2$ or $HNO_3$.
Ferro-Nickel slag is one of the by-products in Ferro-Nickel manufacturing process. The slag is composed of $SiO_2$, MgO, $Fe_2O_3$ and others. But the slag has been buried at landfill despite having valuable elements. This study tried to extract Mg ion and fabricate Mg compound from ferro-nickel slag using hydrochloric acid solution. Mg ion was extracted with Si, Fe and other ions in HCl solution. So reprocess was needed for gaining high purity Mg ion. It was thought that Si ion or $SiO_2$ precipitated in HCl solution and removed from solution in filtering process. Fe ion converted into $Fe(OH)_3$ after reacted with $NH_4OH$ and precipitated in HCl solution. After these process, the filtrate was composed of high purity Mg ion. $MgCl_2{\cdot}NH_4Cl{\cdot}6H_2O$ was obtained through drying of filtrate and this product was changed into MgO by burning process ($600^{\circ}C$-30 min). That is, 1st material or solution for manufacturing 2nd product was fabricated using acid dissolution method and other treatments.
