  • This study aims to develop a potential evaluation method for urban spatial expansion using remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS). A multi-criteria evaluation method with several criteria and their weighting values was introduced to evaluate the score and quantification of the potential surface around the existing cities. The six criteria with one geographic factor, slope, and five accessibility factors, time distance from center of the city, national road, interchange of expressway, a big city, and station, were defined for the potential. RS techniques were applied for classification of the actual urban expansion maps between two periods, and GIS functions were used for score of accessibility criteria with a distance decay function from geographic, road and several point maps, which was developed in this study. The new methodology was applied to a test area, Suwon, between 1986 and 1996. In order to optimize the six weighting values, this study made new findings to search the optimal combination of the weighting values from new methodology, weighted scenario method for intensity order (WSM), combined with intensity order and AHP method, including a trial and error method for sensitivity analysis to make the intensity order. The optimal combination of the weighting values by the new method generated the optimal potential surface, considering spatial trend of urban expansion in the test area.

  • Today's urban spaces require diverse functions according to segmented social changes. Urban public space needs to be a field of mutual exchange, respect of diversity, and communication. According to these needs, an identity which reaches the public should be developed and realized. Therefore, this study is to present indexes for evaluating public space as a means to improve urban identity along with developing an awareness of possible problems. For this purpose, this study found out and analysed factors of evaluation indexes for the most fundamental public spaces which form cities in order to develop directions for deciding on indexes for public space and activation of that public space. An empirical analysis was conducted with the use of a questionnaire with evaluation indexes, reliability, and validity of properties of the space to be analysed and the evaluation items were tested. Based on the results, the study compared and analysed the differences between groups with independent variables (evaluation indexes) and general characteristics through a t-test. As a result, it was discovered that easy and safe accessibility in the use of urban parks as public space was statistically significant. Such results show that accessibility is the most significant factor in the use of parks.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accessibility of the SI-Bass Guitar for the visually impaired who uses the Sense Reader which is a screen reader software. An evaluation was performed for the Sense Reader users to do the [Virtual Instrument Editing] task on the NCS(National Competency Standards) using the SI-Bass Guitar. This study shows that the SI-Bass Guitar has no basic accessibility. But the visually impaired can do above task using the Sense Reader's Mouse Pointer and Position Memory Function. Several Propositions are suggested to develop a fully accessible SI-Bass Guitar for the screen users.

  • Discussion on the use of the library service should be based on both theoretical research and practical experiences. To increase the usage level of digital reference services in Korea, various aspects of the promotion, including latent user profile, publicity, site accessibility, and evaluation are examined, based on the previous research and overseas successful approaches. Results revealed useful information for planning and implementation.

  • The purpose of this study is to present the rational decision process for new ward office building site. AHP Technique used in this study considers both quantitative and qualitative factors on the basis of decision maker's intuitive, reasonable or unreasonable judgement by giving weight through mutual comparision of publicity factors. The evaluaion factors were refer to another five ward office there were executed these kinds of new site selection before. These standards are composed of 6 middle groups and classified into 9 detailed standards. Alternative building sites are five places in this district. The final evauation standards are Accessibility, Urban Expansion Possibility. Distrct balance, Environment, Financing. Development easiness. And It became clear that the priority of evaluation is Financing > Urban expansion > Accessibility > Development easiness > District balance > Environment. In conclusion, it was determined that alternative " E " is the most adequate place for new ward office building.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the accessibility of web resources contained in the references section of journal articles.1 was identified a total of 1,377 web citations for a major journal in information science over a ten year period. The results show that the accessible ratio of domestic web resources was at 40% and the ratio of foreign web resources about 50%. The accessible ratio of domain type web resources was shown 58% while the same ratio for file type web resources was 45%. This low accessibility of we resources in references poses threat to the overall value of journal articles.

  • Since most medical facilities and medical personnel are concentrated in urban areas in South Korea, an imbalance of access to medical facilities causes a gap in medical resource availability between urban and rural areas. Accessibility to medical facilities is a means of assessment that evaluates a measure of inequality in utilization of medical resources. The evaluation of accessibility uses Euclidean distance, in general; however, this method has its limits in that Euclidean distance cannot reflect actual distance. This study aims to estimate real road distance from village halls to medical facilities in rural areas using Open Application Programming Interface (Open API) of an internet portal site. Using real road distance, we evaluated medical accessibility and compared it with Euclidean distance. The accessibility to primary medical institutions was valued relatively well, but secondary and tertiary medical institutions were vulnerable in Pyeonchang-gun. Comparing Euclidean distance with real road distance from village halls to medical facilities, real road distance appeared to be approximately 1.4 times that of Euclidean distance. This calculation is similar to the circuity factor of Gangwon-do in Korea that estimated to fix the limits of Euclidean distance and assumed real road distance.

  • This article analyzed the recent Korean accessibility standard supporting the people with disabilities. This is the basic study to make the interior environment more comprehensible and safer for the physically handicapped. Researcher selected the interior elements related to the mobility and accessibility for the physically handicapped. Then the '98 Korean accessibility standard code called 'Pyunui Chungjin Pup' were compared with the previous Korean building code and two other guidelines for evaluations. Result showed that 'Pyunui Chungjin Pup' addressed more obligatory items in facilities used by people with disabilities. That contributed to develope the accessible environments and to offer the independent activity in the society for the disabilities. However dimensions of 'Pyunui Chungjin Pup' showed the minimum standard. Also it did not provide the sufficient design considerations to make up the sufficient design considerations to make up the other types of disabilities including sensory limitations, or cognitive function limitations. Hereafter, the quality of accessibility guideline should be raised with further study.
