In a satellite gravimetry mission similar to GRACE, the precision of inter-satellite ranging is one of the key factors affecting the quality of gravity field recovery. In this paper, the impact of ranging precision on the accuracy of recovered geopotential coefficients is analyzed. Simulated precise orbit determination (POD) data and inter-satellite range data of formation-flying satellites containing white noise were generated, and geopotential coefficients were recovered from these simulated data sets using the crude acceleration approach. The accuracy of the recovered coefficients was quantitatively compared between data sets encompassing different ranging precisions. From this analysis, a rough prediction of the accuracy of geopotential coefficients could be obtained from the hypothetical mission. For a given POD precision, a ranging measurement precision that matches the POD precision was determined. Since the purpose of adopting inter-satellite ranging in a gravimetry mission is to overcome the imprecision of determining orbits, ranging measurements should be more precise than POD. For that reason, it can be concluded that this critical ranging precision matching the POD precision can serve as the minimum precision requirement for an on-board ranging device. Although the result obtained herein is about a very particular case, this methodology can also be applied in cases where different parameters are used.
Fast Fourier Transform in the vibration acceleration analysis system has recently been utilized in the field of sensor measurement. In this paper, we propose a Fast Fourier Transform based method of detecting the normal frequency among the many frequency types of diffuse field. This normal frequency is expressed by the formula of frequency damping recognition which is calculated in a similar way to the octave center frequency. Based on this theory, this paper can more accurately inform noise producers of the degree of damping, which is different from the vibration type of diffuse field.
In this study, during the injection molding process, a device was manufactured and evaluated that calculates a cooling time by measuring a vibration signal generated from a mold using an acceleration. The last two parts, one of which has a large magnitude change in the measured vibration signal of a mold, were divided into a cooling start section (paking end section) and a mold opening section, and the time difference at the relevant points was calculated as the cooling time. The cooling time was monitored on a 5-inch light guide plate mold by applying the method. The manufactured device was attached to a fixed base of mold to measure the cooling time, and data was obtained remotely using Bluetooth technology. Then, the measured cooling time was compared with the cooling time set in the injection molding machine to evaluate the accuracy. As a result of the experiment, the cooling times measured by the devices were 15.675±0.024 sec, 20.637±0.014 sec and 25.623±0.079 sec of each conditions. Also, the measurement results were shown with errors of 0.655±0.044 sec, 0.637±0.014 sec, and 0.662±0.013 sec, respectively.

This paper aims to present a novelty damage detection method to identify damage locations by the simultaneous use of both the energy and displacement damage indices. Using this novelty method, the damaged location and even the damaged floor are accurately detected. As a first method, a combination of the instantaneous frequency energy index (EDI) and the structural acceleration responses are used. To evaluate the first method and also present a rapid assessment method, the Displacement Damage Index (DDI), which consists of the error reliability (β) and Normal Probability Density Function (NPDF) indices, are introduced. The innovation of this method is the simultaneous use of displacement-acceleration responses during one process, which is more effective in the rapid evaluation of damage patterns with velocity vectors. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, various damage scenarios of the ASCE benchmark problem, and the effects of measurement noise were studied numerically. Extensive analyses show that the rapid proposed method is capable of accurately detecting the location of sparse damages through the building. Finally, the proposed method was validated by experimental studies of a six-story steel building structure with single and multiple damage cases.
Reinforced concrete (RC) slabs are exposed to several static and dynamic effects during their period of service. Accordingly, there are many studies focused on the behavior of RC slabs under these effects in the literature. However, impact loading which can be more effective than other loads is not considered in the design phase of RC slabs. This study aims to investigate the dynamic behavior of two-way RC slabs under sudden impact loading. For this purpose, 3 different simply supported slab specimens are manufactured. These specimens are tested under impact loading by using the drop test setup and necessary measurement devices such as accelerometers, dynamic load cell, LVDT and data-logger. Mass and drop height of the hammer are taken constant during experimental study. It is seen that rigidity of the specimens effect experimental results. While acceleration values increase, displacement values decrease as the sizes of the specimens have bigger values. In the numerical part of the study, artificial neural networks (ANN) analysis is utilized. ANN analysis is used to model different physical dynamic processes depending upon the experimental variables. Maximum acceleration and displacement values are predicted by ANN analysis. Experimental and numerical values are compared and it is found out that proposed ANN model has yielded consistent results in the estimation of experimental values of the test specimens.

Recently, the use of smartphones for structural health monitoring in civil engineering has drawn increasing attention due to their rapid development and popularization. In this study, the structural responses and dynamic characteristics of a 421-m-tall skyscraper during the landfall of Typhoon Muifa are monitored using an iPhone 13. The measured building acceleration responses are first corrected by the resampling technique since the sampling rate of smartphone-based measurement is unstable. Then, based on the corrected building acceleration, the wind-induced responses (i.e., along-wind and across-wind responses) are investigated and the serviceability performance of the skyscraper is assessed. Next, the amplitude-dependency and time-varying structural dynamic characteristics of the monitored supertall building during Typhoon Muifa are investigated by employing the random decrement technique and Bayesian spectral density approach. Moreover, the estimated results during Muifa are further compared with those of previous studies on the monitored building to discuss its long-term time-varying structural dynamic characteristics. The paper aims to demonstrate the applicability and effectiveness of smartphones for structural health monitoring of high-rise buildings.

Dynamic deflection is important for evaluating the performance of a long-span cable-stayed bridge, and its continuous measurement is still cumbersome. This study proposes a dynamic deflection monitoring method for cable-stayed bridge based on Bi-directional Long Short-term Memory (BiLSTM) neural network taking advantages of the characteristics of spatial variation of cable acceleration response (CAR) and main girder deflection response (MGDR). Firstly, the relationship between the spatial and temporal variation of the CAR and the MGDR is described based on the geometric deformation of the bridge. Then a data-driven relational model based on BiLSTM neural network is established using CAR and MGDR data, and it is further used to monitor the MGDR via measuring the CAR. Finally, numerical simulations and field test are conducted to verify the proposed method. The root mean squared error (RMSE) of the numerical simulations are less than 4 while the RMSE of the field test is 1.5782, which indicate that it provides a cost-effective and convenient method for real-time deflection monitoring of cable-stayed bridges.

In this study, the contactless measurement method with a optical displacement sensor(ODS, ADNS 9500) was proposed to overcome flaws in a rotary encoder based measurement under particular circumstances, such as a slippage and a case of little rotational inertia. The performance tests of the optical displacement sensor using data acquisition board and National Instruments's LabVIEW program were performed to accomplish accurate displacement measurements and the performance characteristics according to measurement direction, speed, acceleration, height and surface types were discovered through the repetitive tests. The experimental results indicate that, in order to get an accurate in-plane motion, the height(distance between the ODS and the target surface) has to be maintained at the range of 2.4 mm to 3.2 mm and the sensitivity(resolution) should be modified and applied to the formulae for displacement calculation, considering its measurement direction, speed and surface type.

This paper describes about the method for designing an extended Kalman filter to accurately measure the position of the spatial-phase system using a semiconductor sensor. Spatial position is expressed by the correlation of the rotated coordinate system attached to the body from the inertia coordinate system (a fixed coordinate system). To express the attitude, quaternion was adapted as a state variable, Then, the state changes were estimated from the input value which was measured in the gyro sensor. The observed data is the value obtained from the acceleration sensor. By matching between the measured value in the acceleration sensor and the predicted calculation value, the best variable was obtained. To increase the accuracy of estimation, designation of the extended Kalman filter was performed, which showed excellent ability to adjust the estimation period relative to the sensor property. As a result, when a three-axis gyro sensor and a three-axis acceleration sensor were adapted in the estimator, the RMS(Root Mean Square) estimation error in simulation was retained less than 1.7[$^{\circ}$], and the estimator displayed good property on the prediction of the state in 100 ms measurement period.

Cyclotron-accelerated ion beams are used for various researches, such as nuclear physics, nuclear chemistry, biotechnology, and material sciences including radio-isotope production. Recently considerable applications are asked to the cyclotron development undertaken to meet user requirements of various ions'energies, intensities, and their pulsed beams. For instance, a cocktail beam acceleration technique rapidly changing the ion species and energies was developed to irradiating integrated circuit chips. Also a chopping system in a cyclotron injection line is considered for producing a pulsed ion beam with a relatively long period compared with that generated by the resonance frequency. For the research in neutron time-of-flight measurement, a single-pulsed beam with a repetition interval of the order of mili-seconds or longer is necessary to have a good resolution and to remove background events. In this paper a feasibility of pulsed beam with an external ion source is simulated by adopting a combination system of a chopper accompanying with a bunching stage in the injection line and an additional chopper after the exit of the cyclotron in order to produce beam pulses with a range of $1{\mu}s{\sim}1ms$ periods from a resonance RF cycle. The pulseperiod will be adjusted by chopping the number of beam bunches from the injected pulses in the injection line. However, the longer pulses will have reduced number of beam pulses and sacrificed beam currents. Because the beam users need an intense single pulsed beam, a careful tuning of the acceleration phase and a high-intense external ion source are necessary to achieve an intense single-pulsed beam from the cyclotron. It is essential to strictly match the acceleration phase of injected beams in the central region of the cyclotron to improve its efficiency. An effect of space charge at each pulse from the ion source will be also considered.
