Most if not all research articles published in journals require the author to write an abstract regardless of academic field. However, abstract writing in English is a highly specialized genre on its own. In this light, the purpose of this study is to investigate differences in journal article abstracts written in English by Korean and native English scholars. 90 research paper abstracts written in English by Korean national scholars, US-educated Korean scholars and native English scholars were compared according to rhetorical organization. A generalized rhetorical scheme was used in analysis which was based on Graetz (1985) and Swales (1990): Background-Purpose-Method-Result-Conclusion. In addition, the use of conjunctions as a cohesive device was analyzed based on the categories proposed by Halliday and Hasan (1976). Analyses of the research paper abstracts showed that the majority of the abstracts included the purpose, method and result components. However, while approximately 70 percent of native English writers used research background in the abstract, only 26 percent of Korean national scholars did so. Regarding the use of conjunctions, Korean-national scholars overused and inappropriately used additive and temporal conjunctions. The US-educated Korean scholars showed similar patterns to the native English speakers. The findings obtained here imply that there is a need to provide academic writing instruction of abstracts to non-native scholars.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine learning styles and preferred learning methods of clinical nurses. Method: Data were collected from 735 nurses at one university hospital in Seoul. Learning style inventory, a self-report questionnaire was completed by the subjects. Result: Learning styles of nurses were accommodator 35.9%, diverger 30.4%, converger 18.2%, assimilator 15.5%. Learning styles varied significantly with clinical practice area and academic background. Furthermore, RO(reflective observation) learning mode varied significantly according to the clinical practice area. AC(abstractive conceptualization) learning mode varied significantly with job position. AC and AE(active experimentation) learning modes varied significantly according to the academic background and preferred learning method. Preferred learning methods were lecture 24.8%, clinical practice 23.1%, self-directed learning 21.5%, audiovisual education 16.7%, and group discussion 13.9%. Preferred learning methods varied significantly with learning styles and career. Lecture was preferred in diverger and self-directed learning was preferred in assimilator. Clinical practice was preferred in accommodator and converger. Conclusions: This study suggested that clinical education should be applied to nurses after examining learning styles and preferred learning methods. In conclusion, to identify the nurses' learning styles could be helpful for developing the effective educational skill.
This study investigated the latent groups depending on married working women's work-family spillover. The effects of factors that determine mental health subgroups and differences were also analyzed. Mixture modeling was applied to the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women & Families to achieve the research objectives. The major findings of this study were as follows. First, there were four subgroups that could be defined according to the work-family spillover: mid-level spillover group (mid-positive and mid-negative spillover group), high-level spillover group (high-positive and high-negative spillover group), low-level spillover group (low-positive and low-negative spillover group), and high-negative and low-positive spillover group. Second, the results of mixture regression analysis to test the effect of eco-system variables showed that age, academic background, non-traditional family value, number of children, work hours, wage income, and availability of the maternity leave were significant determinants of the latent groups. The probability of classifying in the high-negative and low-positive spillover group increased when women showed a lower academic background and wage income, higher number of children and older age, and longer work hours than others. Third, the high-level spillover group, and the high-level spillover group showed the lowest stress and the lowest depression; however, the low-level spillover group reported the highest stress and the highest depression. Implications, limitations, and future directions were discussed based on the results.
To investigate the cognitive degree about hepatitis and hepatosis, 916 subjects are examined with query and hepatotitis B, C, E test as well as s-AST and s-ALT as liver function test. Based on results, there are 4.9% of positive hepatitis and 8.9% of hepatosis and 13.8% of liver disorder. Among positive hepatitis, there are 93.3% of type B, 42.2% of type E and 6.7% of type C, respectively. From 45% of positive hepatitis B, they carry hepatitis B and E together. The cognitive degree about positive hepatitis is 64.4%, hepatosis 8.6%. The knowledge degree from cognitive group is higher than that of noncognitive group but there is no difference from hepatosis between two groups (p<0.001). The cognitive degree of liver disorder depends on academic background (p<0.001), mother's academic background (p<0.001), job (p<0.05) and family's income (p<0.001), showing significant difference. In summary, hepatitis carrier aware quite well about liver disorder but very low from hepatosis. Accordingly, the plan to increase a cognitive degree and continuous education as well as policy support to minimize spread of disease and to protect not to be worsen disease will be needed.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between organizational commitment, organizational loyalty, and working satisfaction of 162 teachers in daycare centers in Gyung-gi province. Three questionnaires about the organizational commitment which Allen and Mayer(1990) developed and Son Sobin(2002) revised, organizational loyalty behavior which Jo Bumsang(2004) revised, and working satisfaction which Kim Sunja(2005) developed, and the researcher revised were used for this study. For this study, the data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and Pearson correlation. The results were as follows: first, the early childhood teacher's organizational commitment was average, and there was a significant difference according to the teacher's academic background. Second, the early childhood teacher's organizational loyalty was also average, and there were significant differences according to the teacher's age and academic background. Third, the early childhood teacher's working satisfaction was below average level, and there was a significant difference according to the teacher's working hours. Last, the early childhood teacher's organizational commitment, organizational loyalty behavior, and working satisfaction showed the positive relationship. In conclusion, the government and the director of daycare centers should support for the teacher's psychological satisfaction because the early childhood teacher's psychological state is highly related to successful organization of daycare centers.

The major findings that were drawn from this study were as follows : Frist, the difference in the self-sufficiency level of their family perceived between husband and married immigrant women was not significant. But, in the level of self-sufficiency will, the level perceived by the husband was higher than it of the women significantly. Second, the hierarchical regression analysis showed that the age of the women(${\ss}=.31$) affected most significantly the self-sufficiency in rural multicultural families, followed by the labour morale of the women(${\ss}=.25$), labour morale of the husband(${\ss}=.20$), academic background of the husband(${\ss}=.19$), academic background of the women(${\ss}=.12$), spouse support level of the women toward the husband(${\ss}=.12$). Third, as a result of a hierarchical regression analysis, the self-sufficiency will variables had more explanatory power on it than social-demographic and/or social support variables. In conclusion, based on results of this study, several plans improving self-sufficiency of the rural multicultural family were suggested. Findings of this study may be used as a basic material to establish the policy supporting self-sufficiency in rural multicultural families.

Another way in which stress leads to weight gain is through changes in health behaviors. The study aimed to investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among healthy students of Ahlia University, and to determine the relationship between the development of MSDs and academic stressors and body mass index. Methods: Self-administered questionnaires were distributed to 94 students aged 18-26 years who were enrolled at various Ahlia University colleges and met other inclusion criteria. The students responded to the standardized Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire and the modified College Student Stress Inventory regarding musculoskeletal symptoms and academic stressors. Height and weight measurements were also obtained to determine body mass index. Results: A total of 77.66% reported MSDs in one or more body part, with the prevalence being higher among women than among men. The 7-day prevalence of MSDs severe enough to interfere with activities of daily living was 60.64%, and 44.68% by female and male students, respectively. There was a significant relationship between academic stress and MSDs in the neck, shoulders, lower back, and hips, while the relationship between MSDs, and body mass index, academic stress, and grade point average was not significant.
