  • Recently, convolutional neural network (CNN) have been showed outstanding performance in the field of image recognition, image processing and computer vision, etc. In this paper, we propose a CNN-based image rotation correction algorithm as a solution to image rotation problem, which is one of the factors that reduce the recognition rate in image recognition system using CNN. In this paper, we trained our deep learning model with Leeds Sports Pose dataset to extract the information of the rotated angle, which is randomly set in specific range. The trained model is evaluated with mean absolute error (MAE) value over 100 test data images, and it is obtained 4.5951.

  • Exact comparisons of the thermal conductivities of the base fluid and a nanofluid are very important in the early stages of nanofluid development. A simple procedure of measuring the thermal conductivity of the two fluids by the transient hot wire method and numerically dividing these values is used for this purpose. However, because the experiments are not performed simultaneously and the physical properties of the measurement system are sometimes not properly known, large errors are incurred during the evaluation process. This article proposes a new apparatus for thermal conductivity comparison where the working principle is mainly based on relative measurement rather than absolute measurement. The measuring circuit and data processing steps are explained in detail; a validation test was performed using the well-known glycerine and engine oil.

  • The objective of this study was to determine whether any pretreatment parameters were associated with pharmacological effect or toxicity parameters after vincristine administration and to describe a mathematical model, which explains the interpatient pharmacodynamic variability. The relationship between patient characteristics and vincristine dose and hematological toxicity were evaluated. 68 pediatric and adolescence patients and 107 adults with acute lymphoblastic leukemia were treated with vincristine $1.5mg/m^2/day$ IV and other anticancer drugs as scheduled. Complete blood counts and other blood test results were obtained. The input variables were age, gender, weight, lean body weight (LBW), height, body surface area, vincristine dose and total vincristine dose. The outcome measures were nadir values (white blood cells, absolute neutrophil counts, hemoglobin, and platelets); the absolute decrease, relative decrease, and survival fraction of blood cells. Polynomial regression analysis was carried out to determine the other significant covariates. The variability of $WBC_{nadir}$ was modeled with good precision and accuracy with a two-covariate model. This model should be validated and improved on with further clinical data. We believe that such pharmacodynamic modeling should be explored further to determine its performance and clinical relevance compared with modeling using pharmacokinetic parameter.

  • No-Reference video-quality assessments are divided into two kinds of metrics based on decoding pixel domain or the bitstream one. Traditional full-/reduced- reference methods have difficulty to be deployed as realtime video transmission because it has problems of additional data, complexity, and assessment accuracy. This paper presents simple and highly accurate no-reference video-quality assessment in realtime video transmission. Our proposed method uses quantization parameter, motion vector, and information of transmission error. To evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm, we perform subjective test of video quality with the ITU-T P.910 Absolute Category Rating(ACR) method and compare our proposed algorithm with the subjective quality assessment method. Experimental results show the proposed quality metric has a high correlation (85%) in terms of subjective quality assessment.

  • In this paper, the 2D/3D converting algorithm is proposed. The single frame of 2D image is used fur the real-time processing of the proposed algorithm. The proposed algorithm creates a 3D image with the depth map by using the vertical position information of a object in a single frame. In order to real-time processing and improve the hardware complexity, it performs the generation of a depth map using the image sampling, the object segmentation with the luminance standardization and the boundary scan. It might be suitable to a still image and a moving image, and it can provide a good 3D effect on a image such as a long distance image, a landscape, or a panorama photo because it uses a vertical position information. The proposed algorithm can adapt a 3D effect to a image without the restrictions of the direction, velocity or scene change of an object. It has been evaluated with the visual test and the comparing to the MTD(Modified Time Difference) method using the APD(Absolute Parallax Difference).

  • The enantiomeric separation of lactic acid for its absolute configuration has become important task for understanding its biological origin and metabolic process involved in the formation of lactic acid. It involves the conversion of enantiomers as diastereomeric O-pentafluoropropionylated (S)-(+)-3-methyl-2-butyl ester and the direct separation by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry on a achiral capillary column. The (R)- and (S)-lactic acids were completely separated with a high resolution of 1.9. The newly developed method showed good linearity (r ${\geq}$ 0.999), precision (% relative standard deviation = 3.4-6.2), and accuracy (% relative error = -7.7-1.4) with the detection limit of 0.011 ${\mu}g/mL$. When the method was applied to determine the absolute configuration of lactic acid in Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. lactis 304 (LAB 304), the composition (%) of (R)-lactic acid in the cell pellet and in the culture medium were $89.0{\pm}0.1$ and $78.2{\pm}0.4$, respectively. Thus, it was verified that the present method is useful for the identification and composition test of lactic enantiomers in microorganisms.

  • A study on factors influencing measurement error of Ground-based LiDAR(Light Detection And Ranging) system was conducted in Kimnyeong wind turbine test site on Jeju Island. Three properties of wind including inclined angle, turbulence intensity and power law exponent were taken into account as factors influencing the measurement error of Ground-based LiDAR. In order to calculate LiDAR measurements error, 2.5-month wind speed data collected from LiDAR (WindCube v2) were compared with concurrent data from the anemometer on a nearby 120m-high meteorological mast. In addition, data filtering was performed and its filtering criteria was based on the findings at previous researches. As a result, at 100m above ground level, absolute LiDAR error rate with absolute inclined angle showed 4.58~13.40% and 0.77 of the coefficients of determination, $R^2$. That with turbulence intensity showed 3.58~23.94% and 0.93 of $R^2$ while that with power law exponent showed 4.71~9.53% and 0.41 of $R^2$. Therefore, it was confirmed that the LiDAR measurement error was highly affected by inclined angle and turbulence intensity, while that did not much depend on power law exponent.

  • In this paper, we utilize a Gaussian process to predict the power consumption in the air-conditioning system. As the power consumption in the air-conditioning system takes a form of a time-series and the prediction of the power consumption becomes very important from the perspective of the efficient energy management, it is worth to investigate the time-series model for the prediction of the power consumption. To this end, we apply the Gaussian process to predict the power consumption, in which the Gaussian process provides a prior probability to every possible function and higher probabilities are given to functions that are more likely consistent with the empirical data. We also discuss how to estimate the hyper-parameters, which are parameters in the covariance function of the Gaussian process model. We estimated the hyper-parameters with two different methods (marginal likelihood and leave-one-out cross validation) and obtained a model that pertinently describes the data and the results are more or less independent of the estimation method of hyper-parameters. We validated the prediction results by the error analysis of the mean relative error and the mean absolute error. The mean relative error analysis showed that about 3.4% of the predicted value came from the error, and the mean absolute error analysis confirmed that the error in within the standard deviation of the predicted value. We also adopt the non-parametric Wilcoxon's sign-rank test to assess the fitness of the proposed model and found that the null hypothesis of uniformity was accepted under the significance level of 5%. These results can be applied to a more elaborate control of the power consumption in the air-conditioning system.

  • This study was conducted to estimate the design flood by the determination of best fitting order for LH-moments of the annual maximum series at fifteen watersheds. Using the LH-moment ratios and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, the optimal regional probability distribution was identified to be the Generalized Extreme Value (GEV) in the first report of this project. Parameters of GEV distribution and flood flows of return period n years were derived by the methods of L, L1, L2, L3 and L4-moments. Frequency analysis of flood flow data generated by Monte Carlo simulation was performed by the methods of L, L1, L2, L3 and L4-moments using GEV distribution. Relative Root Mean Square Error. (RRMSE), Relative Bias (RBIAS) and Relative Efficiency (RE.) using methods of L, Ll , L2, L3 and L4-moments for GEV distribution were computed and compared with those resulting from Monte Carlo simulation. At almost all of the watersheds, the more the order of LH-moments and the return periods increased, the more RE became, while the less RRMSE and RBIAS became. The Absolute Relative Reduction (ARR) for the design flood was computed. The more the order of LH-moments increased, the less ARR of all applied watershed became It was confirmed that confidence efficiency of estimated design flood was increased as the order of LH-moments increased. Consequently, design floods for the appled watersheds were derived by the methods of L3 and L4-moments among LH-moments in view of high confidence efficiency.

  • In order to investigate the analytical uncertainties associated with sampling and analysis of major greenhouse gaseous pollutants(carbon dioxide and methane), we attempted to quantify their adsorptive loss due to the contact with the container wall(such as Tedlar bag and vial). Using the GC/FID method, some basic experimental parameters(such as reproducibility and method detection limit) have been evaluated as part of the essential QA/QC The reproducibilities of carbon dioxide and methane were estimated as 2.02 and 0.2%, respectively. In addition, method detection limits were measured as 0.61 and 0.06 ng, respectively. A test of sample loss rate has also been made for Tedlar bag and vial by assessing the absolute amount of sample loss on the wall. By transferring the samples contained in Tedlar bag to various sizes of Tedlar bags, we measured differences in the absolute loss quantity due to such transfer. In addition, we also examined such loss mechanism as a function of elapsed time and light penetration rate for vial. As results, carbon dioxide and methane have shown about 2% of sample loss due to such contact. It is also noticed that the amount of loss with vial surface is lower than that of Tedlar bag. Therefore, field collection of greenhouse gases using various container types should be made more cautiously to minimize the possibility of sample loss and bias related to such loss.
