  • In this paper, we intend to make fringe-field switching (FFS) mode cell by the ion beam (IB) alignment method on the a-C:H thin film, to analyze electro-optical characteristics in this cell. We studied on the suitable inorganic thin film for fringe-field switching (FFS) cell and the aligning capabilities of nematic liquid crystal (NLC) using the alignment material of a-C:H thin film as working gas at 30 W rf bias condition. A high pretilt angle of about 5 $^{\circ}C$ by ion beam (IB) exposure on the a-C:H thin film surface was measured. Consequently, the high pretilt angle and the good thermal stability of LC alignment by the IB alignment method on the a-C:H thin film surface as working gas at 30 W rf bias condition can be achieved. An excellent voltage-transmittance (V -T) and response time curve of the IE-aligned FFS-LCD was observed with oblique IB exposure on the a-C:H thin films. Also, AC V-T hysteresis characteristics of the IB-aligned FFS-LCD with IE exposure on the a-C:H thin films is almost the same as that of the rubbing-aligned FFS cell on a polyimide (PI) surface.

  • In this article, using the example of C. Camci([7]) we reconfirm necessary sufficient condition for a slant curve. Next, we find some necessary and sufficient conditions for a slant curve in a Sasakian 3-manifold to have: (i) a $C$-parallel mean curvature vector field; (ii) a $C$-proper mean curvature vector field (in the normal bundle).

  • Methods and systems to remove static electricity are requested in the field of industry because the static electricity causes a flammable gas explosion or fire and a reduction of production rate in manufacturing semiconductor devices and so on. This paper is a basic study about a new structure of electrode system to control the quantities of generated ions and to solve the problem of dust attachment to needle electrode. In addition, a new type field controlled electrostatic charge neutralizer was proposed, and it could control the electric field in the end of the needle electrode by controlling the voltage of the third electrode around the tip of the needle electrode. As aresult, it was possible to control the quantities of generated ion by controlling the electric field in the needle electrode with the third electrode, which shows the possibilities to solve the nonequilibrium of generated ions in ac power source and the problem of the dust in the needle electrode.

  • Top spin valve films with PtMn antiferromagnetic layers were deposited using a multi-target dc magnetron sputtering in (100)Si substrates overcoated with 500 $\AA$ of Al$_2$O$_3$. Firstly, the post-deposition annealing was performed at 270$\^{C}$ in a unidirectional magnetic field of 3 kOe to induce the crystallographic transformation of the PtMn layer from a fcc (111) to a fct (111) structure. Secondly, the spin valve films were annealed without magnetic fields and magnetic properties were measured. In Si/A1$_2$O$_3$ (500$\AA$)/Ta(50$\AA$)NiFe(40$\AA$)/CoFe(17$\AA$)/Cu(28$\AA$)/CoFe (30$\AA$)PtMn(200$\AA$)Ta(50$\AA$) top spin valve samples, the MR ratio decreased slowly with increasing annealing temperature up to 325$\^{C}$. But above 325$\^{C}$, the MR ratio decreased rapidly to 1%, due to a collapse of the exchange coupling between a antiferromagnetic layer and a pinned layer with increasing annealing temperature. Also above 325$\^{C}$, the exchange biased field rapidly decreased and the interlayer coupling field rapidly increased with increasing annealing temperature. A change in the interlayer coupling field was resulted from the increase in interface roughness due to Mn-interdiffusion through the grain boundaries. We confirmed the temperature in changing magnetic properties agreed well with the blocking temperature of PtMn based spin valve structure.

  • Ecological aspects of Cryptocercus kyebangensis life history were investigated via laboratory rearing and field observations. The number of antennal segments and head width were used to classify the first four instars. The results, which combine both the field collection and the laboratory rearing, indicate that eleven instars occur in C. kyebangensis. It supports the proposal on the number of instars of Park and Choe (2003c) based on field collections. A total of 388 nymps from 13 colonies were collected prior to winter to investigate overwintering stages. Of them,4% (n = 17) were the second instars, 57% (n = 220) were the third instars, and 39% (n = 151) were the fourth instars, respectively. Thus, most of them overwinter in the third or fourth instars. The results indicate that young nymphs of C. kyebangensis have to reach at least 3rd or 4th instar to survive low temperature environment of winter. According to seasonal dynamics of populations, C. kyebangensis reaches adulthood in the summer of the fourth or fifth year (4-5 yr span) after their birth.

  • Diamond-like carbon (DLC) is a convenient term to indicate the compositions of the various forms of amorphous carbon (a-C), tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C), hydrogenated amorphous carbon and tetrahedral amorphous carbon (a-C:H and ta-C:H). The a-C film with disordered graphitic ordering, such as soot, chars, glassy carbon, and evaporated a-C, is shown in the lower left hand corner. If the fraction of sp3 bonding reaches a high degree, such an a-C is denoted as tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C), in order to distinguish it from sp2 a-C [2]. Two hydrocarbon polymers, that is, polyethylene (CH2)n and polyacetylene (CH)n, define the limits of the triangle in the right hand corner beyond which interconnecting C-C networks do not form, and only strait-chain molecules are formed. The DLC films, i.e. a-C, ta-C, a-C:H and ta-C:H, have some extreme properties similar to diamond, such as hardness, elastic modulus and chemical inertness. These films are great advantages for many applications. One of the most important applications of the carbon-based films is the coating for magnetic hard disk recording. The second successful application is wear protective and antireflective films for IR windows. The third application is wear protection of bearings and sliding friction parts. The fourth is precision gages for the automotive industry. Recently, exciting ongoing study [1] tries to deposit a carbon-based protective film on engine parts (e.g. engine cylinders and pistons) taking into account not only low friction and wear, but also self lubricating properties. Reduction of the oil consumption is expected. Currently, for an additional application field, the carbon-based films are extensively studied as excellent candidates for biocompatible films on biomedical implants. The carbon-based films consist of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen, which are biologically harmless as well as the main elements of human body. Some in vitro and limited in vivo studies on the biological effects of carbon-based films have been studied [$2{\sim}5$].The carbon-based films have great potentials in many fields. However, a few technological issues for carbon-based film are still needed to be studied to improve the applicability. Aisenberg and Chabot [3] firstly prepared an amorphous carbon film on substrates remained at room temperature using a beam of carbon ions produced using argon plasma. Spencer et al. [4] had subsequently developed this field. Many deposition techniques for DLC films have been developed to increase the fraction of sp3 bonding in the films. The a-C films have been prepared by a variety of deposition methods such as ion plating, DC or RF sputtering, RF or DC plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), electron cyclotron resonance chemical vapor deposition (ECR-CVD), ion implantation, ablation, pulsed laser deposition and cathodic arc deposition, from a variety of carbon target or gaseous sources materials [5]. Sputtering is the most common deposition method for a-C film. Deposited films by these plasma methods, such as plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) [6], are ranged into the interior of the triangle. Application fields of DLC films investigated from papers. Many papers purposed to apply for tribology due to the carbon-based films of low friction and wear resistance. Figure 1 shows the percentage of DLC research interest for application field. The biggest portion is tribology field. It is occupied 57%. Second, biomedical field hold 14%. Nowadays, biomedical field is took notice in many countries and significantly increased the research papers. DLC films actually applied to many industries in 2005 as shown figure 2. The most applied fields are mold and machinery industries. It took over 50%. The automobile industry is more and more increase application parts. In the near future, automobile industry is expected a big market for DLC coating. Figure 1 Research interests of carbon-based filmsFigure 2 Demand ratio of DLC coating for industry in 2005. In this presentation, I will introduce a trend of carbon-based coating research and applications.

  • The performance of elliptic curve based on public key cryptosystems is mainly appointed by the efficiency of the underlying finite field arithmetic. This work describes a finite field multiplier and divider which is implemented using SystemC. Also this present an efficient hardware for performing the elliptic curve point multiplication using the polynomial basis representation. In order to improve the speed of the multiplier with as a little extra hardware as possible, adopted hybrid finite field multiplication and finite field divider.

  • The critical currents I$_c$ of the YBCO grain boundaries of 90-degree [100] symmetric tilt showed a hysteretic behavior depending on how the external magnetic fields were applied. Near 77K for fields less than ${\sim}$1 T, the field-cooled I$_c$ of grain boundaries was larger than the zero-field-cooled I$_c$. This result is consistent with the model in which the grain-boundary vortices can be pinned by neighboring Abrikosov vortices in the nearby grains.

  • In this Paper, we propose an accurate and stable solution of the transient electromagnetic response from three-dimensional arbitrarily shaped conducting objects by using a time domain magnetic field integral equation. This method does not utilize the conventional marching-on in time (MOT) solution. Instead we solve the time domain integral equation by expressing the transient behavior of the induced current in terms of temporal expansion functions with decaying exponential functions and Laguerre·polynomials. Since these temporal expansion functions converge to zero as time progresses, the transient response of the induced current does not have a late time oscillation and converges to zero unconditionally. To show the validity of the proposed method, we solve a time domain magnetic field integral equation for three closed conducting objects and compare the results of Mie solution and the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the solution obtained in the frequency domain.
