기계학습모델을 이용한 이상기상에 따른 사일리지용 옥수수 생산량에 미치는 피해 산정 (Calculation of Damage to Whole Crop Corn Yield by Abnormal Climate Using Machine Learning)

  • 본 연구는 기계학습을 기반으로 제작한 수량예측모델을 이용하여 PCR 4.5 시나리오에 따른 사일리지용 옥수수(WCC)의 피해량 산정 및 전자지도를 작성할 목적으로 수행하였다. WCC 데이터는 수입적응성 시험보고서(n=1,219), 국립축산과학원 시험연구보고서(n=1,294), 한국축산학회지(n=8), 한국초지조사료학회지(n=707) 및 학위논문(n=4)에서 총 3,232점을 수집하였으며, 기상데이터는 기상청의 기상자료개방포털에서 수집하였다. 본 연구에서 이상기상에 따른 WCC의 피해량은 RCP 4.5 시나리오에 따른 월평균기온 및 강수량을 시간단위로 환산하여 준용하여 산정하였다. 정상기상에서 DMY 예측값은 13,845~19,347 kg/ha 범위로 나타났다. 이상기상에 따른 피해량은 이상기온 2050 및 2100년 각각 -263~360 및-1,023~92 kg/ha, 이상강수량 2050 및 2100년 각각 -17~-2 및-12~2 kg/ha였다. 월평균기온이 증가함에 따라서 WCC의 DMY는 증가하는 경향으로 나타났다. RCP 4.5 시나리오를 통해 산정한 WCC의 피해량은 QGIS를 이용하여 전자지도로 제시하였다. 본 연구는 온실가스 저감이 진행된 시나리오를 이용했지만, 추가 연구는 온실가스 저감이 되지 않은 RCP 시나리오를 이용한 연구를 수행할 필요가 있다.

토픽 모델링을 이용한 트위터 이슈 트래킹 시스템 (Twitter Issue Tracking System by Topic Modeling Techniques)

  • 현재 우리는 소셜 네트워크 서비스(Social Network Service, 이하 SNS) 상에서 수많은 데이터를 만들어 내고 있다. 특히, 모바일 기기와 SNS의 결합은 과거와는 비교할 수 없는 대량의 데이터를 생성하면서 사회적으로도 큰 영향을 미치고 있다. 이렇게 방대한 SNS 데이터 안에서 사람들이 많이 이야기하는 이슈를 찾아낼 수 있다면 이 정보는 사회 전반에 걸쳐 새로운 가치 창출을 위한 중요한 원천으로 활용될 수 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 SNS 빅데이터 분석에 대한 요구에 부응하기 위해, 트위터 데이터를 활용하여 트위터 상에서 어떤 이슈가 있었는지 추출하고 이를 웹 상에서 시각화 하는 트위터이슈 트래킹 시스템 TITS(Twitter Issue Tracking System)를 설계하고 구축 하였다. TITS는 1) 일별 순위에 따른 토픽 키워드 집합 제공 2) 토픽의 한달 간 일별 시계열 그래프 시각화 3) 토픽으로서의 중요도를 점수와 빈도수에 따라 Treemap으로 제공 4) 키워드 검색을 통한 키워드의 한달 간 일별 시계열 그래프 시각화의 기능을 갖는다. 본 연구는 SNS 상에서 실시간으로 발생하는 빅데이터를 Open Source인 Hadoop과 MongoDB를 활용하여 분석하였고, 이는 빅데이터의 실시간 처리가 점점 중요해지고 있는 현재 매우 주요한 방법론을 제시한다. 둘째, 문헌정보학 분야뿐만 아니라 다양한 연구 영역에서 사용하고 있는 토픽 모델링 기법을 실제 트위터 데이터에 적용하여 스토리텔링과 시계열 분석 측면에서 유용성을 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 연구 실험을 바탕으로 시각화와 웹 시스템 구축을 통해 실제 사용 가능한 시스템으로 구현하였다. 이를 통해 소셜미디어에서 생성되는 사회적 트렌드를 마이닝하여 데이터 분석을 통한 의미 있는 정보를 제공하는 실제적인 방법을 제시할 수 있었다는 점에서 주요한 의의를 갖는다. 본 연구는 JSON(JavaScript Object Notation) 파일 포맷의 1억 5천만개 가량의 2013년 3월 한국어 트위터 데이터를 실험 대상으로 한다.

한국(韓國)의 의료기사(醫療技士) 교육제도(敎育制度)에 관(關)한 조사(調査) 연구(硏究) (A Study of Educational System for Medical Technologists in Korea)

  • After the investigation on, and the analysis of, the educational system for medical technicians and the present educational situation for medical technologies in this country, the following conclusions were drawn. 1. As of March 1983 the current academic system for education in medical technologies included the regular 4-year college courses and those of the 2-year professional junior college courses. But except in the cases on clinical pathology and physical therapy, there were no college-level departments. Particularly, no educational institutions, at whatever level, had a department for working therapies. 2. The total number of credits needed for graduation from a department of medical technologies was 150 points at a regular 4-year college and 85 to 96 points at a 2-year professional college. The obligatory minimum number of credits for a student at a professional college was set at 80 points and above. 3. As for the number of the educational institutions for medical technologies in this country, there were one regular college and 14 professional colleges, a total of 15 institutions. As many as 14 colleges had departments of clinical pathology, 12 had departments of Radiotechnology, 11 had departments of physical therapy, 12 had departments of dental technology, and eight had departments of dental hygiene. 4. The total capacity of the professional colleges in admitting new enrollment each year were 1,920 for clinical pathology, 1,552 for radiology, 1,012 for physical therapy, 1,334 for dental technologies, 828 for dental hygiene, an aggregate of 6,646 for all of the professional college departments. 5. The total number of graduates from the 12 professional colleges by department during the period of 1965-83 were 7,595 for clindical pathology, 4,768 for radiology, 2,821 for physical therapy, 3,000 for dental technologies, and 1,787 for dental hygiene, totalling 19,971 for all departments in the professional colleges. 6. In the state examination for licensed medical technicians, 12,446 have passed from among the total of 26,609 participants, representing a 45% passing ratio. By departments the ratios showed 44% for clinical pathology, 39.7% for radiology, 51.2% for physical therapy, 42.5% for dental technology, 72.5% for dental hygiene and 73.1% for working therapy. 7. As for the degree of satisfaction shown by the people in this field, 52.2 percent of the teaching staffs who responed to the questionaires said they were satisfied with their present profession, while the great majority of medical technicians(66%) replied that they were indifferent to the problem. 8. The degree of satisfaction shown by the students on their enrollment in this particular academic field was generally in the framework of indifference(43.7%), but mere students(36.5%) were satisfied with their choice than those were not satisfied(14.4%) 9. As for the student's opinions on the lectures and practicing hours, a good many students replied that, among such courses as general science and humanities courses the basic medical course, the major course and practicing hours, the hours provided for the general courses(47.1%) and practicing(47.6%) were insufficient. 10. When asked about the contents of their major courses, comparatively few students (23.6%) replied that the courses were too difficult, while a convincing majority(58.5%) said they were neither difficult nor easy. As for the appropriateness of the number of the present teaching staffs, a great majority(71.0%) of the students replied that the level of the teaching personnel in each particular field was insufficient. 11. Among the students who responded to the poll, good part of them(49.5%) wanted mandatory clinical practicing hours, and the the majority of them(64.6%) held the view that the experimental and practicing facilities of their schools were insufficient. 12. On the necessity of the attached hospitals, 71.1% of the teaching staffs and 58.0% of the medical technicians had the opinion that this kind of facility was indispensable. 13. As for the qualifications for applicants to the state examination in the licensing system for medical technicians, 52.2% of the teacher's and 36% of the medical technicians replied that the present system granting the qualifications according to the apprenticeship period should be abolished. 14. On the necessity of improving the present system for education in medical technologies, an overwhelming majority(94.4% of the :caching staffs, 92.0% of the medical technicians and 91.9% of students) of these polled replied that the present system should be changed for the better. 15. On the method of changes for the present educational system, a great majority(89.4% of the teaching staffs, 80.4% of the medical technicians and 90.1% of the students) said that the system must be changed so that it fits into the reality of the present day. 16. As for the present 2-year program for the professional colleges, 61.6% of the teachers, 72.0% of the medical technicians and 38.8% of the students expressed the hope that the academic period would be extended to four regular years, hemming a full-fledged collegelevels program. 17. On the life-long eductional system for medical technicians, there was a considerable number of people who expressed the hope that an open university system(38.9% of the teaching staffs, 36.0% of the medical technicians) and a graduate school system would be set up. 18. As for the future prospects for medical technicians as professionals, the optimists ana pessimists were almost equally divided, and 41.1% of the teaching staffs 36.0% of. the technicians and 50.5% of the students expressed an intermediate position on this issue.

지식베이스 확장을 위한 멀티소스 비정형 문서에서의 정보 추출 시스템의 개발 (Development of Information Extraction System from Multi Source Unstructured Documents for Knowledge Base Expansion)

  • 지식베이스를 구축하는 작업은 도메인 전문가가 온톨로지 스키마를 이해한 뒤, 직접 지식을 정제하는 수작업이 요구되는 만큼 비용이 많이 드는 활동이다. 이에, 도메인 전문가 없이 다양한 웹 환경으로부터 질의에 대한 답변 정보를 추출하기 위한 자동화된 시스템의 연구개발의 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 기존의 정보 추출 관련 연구들은 웹에 존재하는 다양한 형태의 문서 중 학습데이터와 상이한 형태의 문서에서는 정보를 효과적으로 추출하기 어렵다는 한계점이 존재한다. 또한, 기계 독해와 관련된 연구들은 문서에 정답이 있는 경우를 가정하고 질의에 대한 답변정보를 추출하는 경우로서, 문서의 정답포함 여부를 보장할 수 없는 실제 웹의 비정형 문서로부터의 정보추출에서는 낮은 성능을 보인다는 한계점이 존재한다. 본 연구에서는 지식베이스 확장을 위하여 웹에 존재하는 멀티소스 비정형 문서로부터 질의에 대한 정보를 추출하기 위한 시스템의 개발 방법론을 제안하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 제안한 방법론은 "주어(Subject)-서술어(Predicate)"로 구분된 질의에 대하여 위키피디아, 네이버 백과사전, 네이버 뉴스 3개 웹 소스로부터 수집된 비정형 문서로부터 관련 정보를 추출하며, 제안된 방법론을 적용한 시스템의 성능평가를 위하여, Wu and Weld(2007)의 모델을 베이스라인 모델로 선정하여 성능을 비교분석 하였다. 연구결과 제안된 모델이 베이스라인 모델에 비해, 위키피디아, 네이버 백과사전, 네이버 뉴스 등 다양한 형태의 문서에서 정보를 효과적으로 추출하는 강건한 모델임을 입증하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 현업 지식베이스 관리자에게 지식베이스 확장을 위한 웹에서 질의에 대한 답변정보를 추출하기 위한 시스템 개발의 지침서로서 실무적인 시사점을 제공함과 동시에, 추후 다양한 형태의 질의응답 시스템 및 정보추출 연구로의 확장에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

제 1, 2회 학생 과학 공동탐구 토론대회의 종합적 평가 (Summative Evaluation of 1993, 1994 Discussion Contest of Scientific Investigation)

  • The first and the second "Discussion Contest of Scientific Investigation" was evaluated in this study. This contest was a part of 'Korean Youth Science Festival' held in 1993 and 1994. The evaluation was based on the data collected from the middle school students of final teams, their teachers, a large number of middle school students and college students who were audience of the final competition. Questionnaires, interviews, reports of final teams, and video tape of final competition were used to collect data. The study focussed on three research questions. The first was about the preparation and the research process of students of final teams. The second was about the format and the proceeding of the Contest. The third was whether participating the Contest was useful experience for the students and the teachers of the final teams. The first area, the preparation and the research process of students, were investigated in three aspects. One was the level of cooperation, participation, support and the role of teachers. The second was the information search and experiment, and the third was the report writing. The students of the final teams from both years, had positive opinion about the cooperation, students' active involvement, and support from family and school. Students considered their teachers to be a guide or a counsellor, showing their level of active participation. On the other hand, the interview of 1993 participants showed that there were times that teachers took strong leading role. Therefore one can conclude that students took active roles most of the time while the room for improvement still exists. To search the information they need during the period of the preparation, student visited various places such as libraries, bookstores, universities, and research institutes. Their search was not limited to reading the books, although the books were primary source of information. Students also learned how to organize the information they found and considered leaning of organizing skill useful and fun. Variety of experiments was an important part of preparation and students had positive opinion about it. Understanding related theory was considered most difficult and important, while designing and building proper equipments was considered difficult but not important. This reflects the students' school experience where the equipments were all set in advance and students were asked to confirm the theories presented in the previous class hours. About the reports recording the research process, students recognize the importance and the necessity of the report but had difficulty in writing it. Their reports showed tendency to list everything they did without clear connection to the problem to be solved. Most of the reports did not record the references and some of them confused report writing with story telling. Therefore most of them need training in writing the reports. It is also desirable to describe the process of student learning when theory or mathematics that are beyond the level of middle school curriculum were used because it is part of their investigation. The second area of evaluation was about the format and the proceeding of the Contest, the problems given to students, and the process of student discussion. The format of the Contests, which consisted of four parts, presentation, refutation, debate and review, received good evaluation from students because it made students think more and gave more difficult time but was meaningful and helped to remember longer time according to students. On the other hand, students said the time given to each part of the contest was too short. The problems given to students were short and open ended to stimulate students' imagination and to offer various possible routes to the solution. This type of problem was very unfamiliar and gave a lot of difficulty to students. Student had positive opinion about the research process they experienced but did not recognize the fact that such a process was possible because of the oneness of the task. The level of the problems was rated as too difficult by teachers and college students but as appropriate by the middle school students in audience and participating students. This suggests that it is possible for student to convert the problems to be challengeable and intellectually satisfactory appropriate for their level of understanding even when the problems were difficult for middle school students. During the process of student discussion, a few problems were observed. Some problems were related to the technics of the discussion, such as inappropriate behavior for the role he/she was taking, mismatching answers to the questions. Some problems were related to thinking. For example, students thinking was off balanced toward deductive reasoning, and reasoning based on experimental data was weak. The last area of evaluation was the effect of the Contest. It was measured through the change of the attitude toward science and science classes, and willingness to attend the next Contest. According to the result of the questionnaire, no meaningful change in attitude was observed. However, through the interview several students were observed to have significant positive change in attitude while no student with negative change was observed. Most of the students participated in Contest said they would participate again or recommend their friend to participate. Most of the teachers agreed that the Contest should continue and they would recommend their colleagues or students to participate. As described above, the "Discussion Contest of Scientific Investigation", which was developed and tried as a new science contest, had positive response from participating students and teachers, and the audience. Two among the list of results especially demonstrated that the goal of the Contest, "active and cooperative science learning experience", was reached. One is the fact that students recognized the experience of cooperation, discussion, information search, variety of experiments to be fun and valuable. The other is the fact that the students recognized the format of the contest consisting of presentation, refutation, discussion and review, required more thinking and was challenging, but was more meaningful. Despite a few problems such as, unfamiliarity with the technics of discussion, weakness in inductive and/or experiment based reasoning, and difficulty in report writing, The Contest demonstrated the possibility of new science learning environment and science contest by offering the chance to challenge open tasks by utilizing student science knowledge and ability to inquire and to discuss rationally and critically with other students.

이진 분류문제에서의 딥러닝 알고리즘의 활용 가능성 평가 (Feasibility of Deep Learning Algorithms for Binary Classification Problems)

  • 최근 알파고의 등장으로 딥러닝 기술에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 딥러닝은 향후 미래의 핵심 기술이 되어 일상생활의 많은 부분을 개선할 것이라는 기대를 받고 있지만, 주요한 성과들이 이미지 인식과 자연어처리 등에 국한되어 있고 전통적인 비즈니스 애널리틱스 문제에의 활용은 미비한 실정이다. 실제로 딥러닝 기술은 Convolutional Neural Network(CNN), Recurrent Neural Network(RNN), Deep Boltzmann Machine (DBM) 등 알고리즘들의 선택, Dropout 기법의 활용여부, 활성 함수의 선정 등 다양한 네트워크 설계 이슈들을 가지고 있다. 따라서 비즈니스 문제에서의 딥러닝 알고리즘 활용은 아직 탐구가 필요한 영역으로 남아있으며, 특히 딥러닝을 현실에 적용했을 때 발생할 수 있는 여러 가지 문제들은 미지수이다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 다이렉트 마케팅 응답모델, 고객이탈분석, 대출 위험 분석 등의 주요한 분류 문제인 이진분류에 딥러닝을 적용할 수 있을 것인지 그 가능성을 실험을 통해 확인하였다. 실험에는 어느 포르투갈 은행의 텔레마케팅 응답여부에 대한 데이터 집합을 사용하였으며, 전통적인 인공신경망인 Multi-Layer Perceptron, 딥러닝 알고리즘인 CNN과 RNN을 변형한 Long Short-Term Memory, 딥러닝 모형에 많이 활용되는 Dropout 기법 등을 이진 분류 문제에 활용했을 때의 성능을 비교하였다. 실험을 수행한 결과 CNN 알고리즘은 비즈니스 데이터의 이진분류 문제에서도 MLP 모형에 비해 향상된 성능을 보였다. 또한 MLP와 CNN 모두 Dropout을 적용한 모형이 적용하지 않은 모형보다 더 좋은 분류 성능을 보여줌에 따라, Dropout을 적용한 CNN 알고리즘이 이진분류 문제에도 활용될 수 있는 가능성을 확인하였다.

가맹본부의 배타적 영업지역보호에 대한 탐색적 연구 (A New Exploratory Research on Franchisor's Provision of Exclusive Territories)

  • 가맹사업에 있어 배타적 영업지역보호정책의 문제는 경제학 및 경영학 분야뿐만 아니라 사회 정치적으로 매우 중요한 쟁점이다. 본 연구는 배타적 영업지역과 관련한 기존 문헌을 토대로 가맹사업에서의 효율성 관점에서 배타적 영업지역보호에 영향을 미치는 변수와 배타적 영업지역 보호가 가맹본부 및 가맹점의 성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하고 있다. 가맹점의 대부분이 중소상인들이란 점을 감안하면 유통정책적으로도 중요한 의미가 있다고 할 수 있다. 본연구는 사회적으로도 잇슈가 될 수 있는 기업의 전략을 타당성과 당위성, 그리고 논리성으로만 평가하는 것이 아니라 실제 자료를 근거로 분석하였다. 또, 정책연구들이 가지고 있는 자료와 이론의 한계를 감안한 탐색적 방법론을 활용하여 보다 실질적이고 현실적용성이 뛰어난 분석을 제안하였다. 분석 결과, 배타적 영업지역보호는 긍정적인 효과가 있기는 하지만 통계적으로 유의하지 못하였으며, 가맹점과 가맹본부간의 로얄티가 많아서 위험공유성향이 클때에는 배타적 영업지역보호를 하지 않는 것이 효과적이었고, 가맹점을 모집하기 위해 배타적 영업지역보호를 해주거나 배타적 영업지역보호를 통해서 가맹사업본부내의 효율성을 키우기 위한 경우에는 긍정적인 효과가 유의하게 나타나는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 하지만 외부경쟁으로부터 직영점을 보호하기 위하거나 시장성장을 활용하기 위한 배타적 영업지역보호는 좋은 성과를 내지 못하였다. 또한 쉽게 배타적 영업지역보호를 할 수 있기에 이런 제도를 도입하는 것도 역시 좋은 성과를 내지 못한 것으로 나타났다. 결과적으로 배타적 영업지역보호가 기업의 운영효율을 증대시키기 위하여 하는 경우는 성과가 좋으나 다른 목적을 위하여 배타적 영업지역보호를 활용하는 것은 바람직한 결과를 못내는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 분석결과를 토대로 영업지역 보호를 획일적으로 활용하거나 법으로 강제하기 보다는 가맹사업본부와 가맹점의 관계 및 상황, 또 동기에 맞추어 탄력적으로 적용하는 것이 바람직하다는 제안을 하고 있으며, 이를 근거로 몇 가지 정책적 시사점을 제시하였다.

  • China is a country with large agricultural areas and subject to frequent calamities. Drought is the top of them. It has been a key problem for development of agriculture in the country. In the long struggle against drought, Chinese have accumulated many rational and irrational experiences. The Dragon Kings Belief, which is popular in North China and discussed in a thesis, is one of their irrational experiences. The belief was passed together with Buddhism from India to China in the Tang Dynasty. After it settled down, it was incorporated with the local five dragons belief and a set of beliefs in dragon kings came into existence. The emergence of the dragon kings belief ended the history that the title of rain got was not clear in China and Dragon kings finally got the status. Irrigation is the lifeblood of agriculture in China. In a Chinese mind, Dragon kings are the most important gods who take charge of rain and thus offer the lifeblood. In understanding the nature and characteristics of Chinese traditional culture, it is important for us to make clear the origin and evolution of the belief, find out its nature, function and operation. In the every year beginning of February of the Fanzhuang calendar in the people of Hebeisheng Zhaoxian, would all hold a festival to offer sacrifices to the $^{{\circ}TM}^{\prime}longpai$. Longpai was regarded as the core of the temple fair, thus the native sons came to call this festival; "longpaihui". In this region the'Fanzhuang longpaihui'developed into a well knownand grand temple fair. It was able to attract numerous pilgrims with its special magic power, occupying a place in $China^{{\circ}TM}$ 'eryueer'festival with festive dragon activities. The dragon is a common totem among Chinese nationals. The belief worship of the dragon dates from the start time of primitive societies. Dragon oneself the ancients worship's thunder lightning. In the worship of the great universe, at first afterwards this belief with the tribe's totem worships to combine to become the animal spirit. 덕수궁 석조전 정원의 조성과 변천 (A Study on the Forming and the Transformations of Seokjojeon Garden in Deoksugung)

  • 본 연구는 석조전 정원 조성 과정과 변천을 사회적 배경에 따른 덕수궁 권역의 변천과 연계하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 정원의 변천 과정을 4단계로 구분하였다. 첫째, 개항기 말인 1896년에서 1914년이다. 1896년부터 1897년까지 경운궁은 법궁으로 조성되어 고종의 거처로 중화전과 석조전이 마련되었다. 석조전 건립 초기에는 브라운이 관여했고, 준공과 정원은 데이빗슨이 마무리했다. 정원 조성 과정에서 중화전 회랑이 훼철되고 돈덕전이 편입되었다. 정원은 중심부에 원형 기식화단과 축선을 겸한 동선을 지닌 단순한 형태였고 독수리 조각상을 세웠으나 곧 철거되었다. 둘째, 1915년에서 1932년으로 17년간 형태가 유지되었던 시기이다. 1911년 대한제국 말기 궁내부를 계승한 이왕직이 1915년에 주전과를 설치하여 덕수궁 내 건물들을 조사했다. 당시의 정원은 1차 조성 형태 요소 중 중심축선은 유지하였지만, 녹지대는 비대칭형으로 하였다. 세부화단은 원형이고 오픈 노트 기법과 경계부 식재를 했고, 세분된 동선을 조성했다. 셋째, 1933년에서 1937년까지로 석조전이 개방된 시기이다. 1932년 석조전을 상설미술관으로 개방하기 위해 많은 건물을 훼철했다. 새로 조성한 정원은 중심축과 연계된 동선 중심에 거북이 조각상이 놓인 직사각형 수반이 있는 형태이다. 넷째, 1938년에서 해방까지로 덕수궁이 공원화된 시기이다. 이왕가미술관을 건립하여 석조전과 브리지로 연결하였고, 정원은 선큰(sunken) 정원으로 변모했다. 분수대, 파고라가 도입되었고 이후 부분적인 변형이 있었으나 현재까지 지속되고 있다. 이처럼 현재 남겨진 석조전 정원은 최초의 모습이 아니며, 따라서 본 연구는 석조전 정원에 대한 언설이 재작성되어야 함을 밝힌 것에 의의가 있다.

학과보건교육에서의 매체활용실태 및 영향요인 분석 (An Analysis of the Use of Media Materials in School Health Education and Related Factors in Korea)

  • The objectives of this study are to explain the use of media materials in school health education with other related factors in elementary, middle, and high schools in Korea. The data were collected by questionnaires from June to September in 1998. The number of subjects were 294 school nurses. The PC-SAS program was used for statistical analysis such as percent distribution, chi-squared test, spearman correlation test, and logistic regression. The use of media materials in health education has become extremely common. Unfortunately, much of the early materials were of poor production quality, reflected low levels of interest, and generally did little to enhance health education programming. A recent trend in media materials is a move away from the fact filled production to a more affective, process-oriented approach. There is an obvious need for health educators to use high-quality, polished productions in order to counteract the same levels of quality used by commercial agencies that often promote "unhealthy" lifestyles. Health educators need to be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the various forms of media. Selecting media materials should be based on more than cost, availability, and personal preference. Selection should be based on the goal of achieving behavioral objectives formulated before the review process begins. The decision to use no media materials rather than something of dubious quality usually be the right decision. Poor-quality, outdated, or boring materials will usually have a detrimental effect on the presentation. Media materials should be viewed as vehicles to enhance learning, not products that will stand in isolation. Process of materials is an essential part of the educational process. The major results were as follows : 1. The elementary schools used the materials more frequently. But the production rate of media materials was not enough. The budget was too small for a wide use of media materials in school health education. These findings suggest that all schools have to increase the budget of health education programs. 2. Computers offer an incredibly diverse set of possibilities for use in health education, ranging from complicated statistical analysis to elementary-school-level health education games. But the use rate of this material was not high. The development of related software is essential. Health educators would be well advised to develop a basic operating knowledge of media equipment. 3. In this study, the most effective materials were films in elementary school and videotapes in middle and high school. Film tends to be a more emotive medium than videotape. The difficulties of media selection involved the small amount of extant educational materials. Media selection is a multifaceted process and should be based on a combination of sound principles. 4. The review of material use following student levels showed that the more the contents were various, the more the use rate was high. 5. Health education videotapes and overhead projectors proved the most plentiful and widest media tools. The information depicted was more likely to be current. As a means to display both text and graphic information, this instructional medium has proven to be both effective and enduring. 6. An analysis of how effective the quality of school nurse and school use of media materials shows a result that is not complete (p=0.1113). But, the budget of health education is a significant variable. The increase of the budget therefore is essential to effective use of media materials. From these results it is recommended that various media materials be developed and be wide used.
