A New Traffic Model for Internet Load Estimation (트래픽별 특성 규명을 통한 인터넷 부하 측정에 관한 연구)

  • A traffic analysis on the Internet has an advantage for obtaining the characteristics of transferred packets. There were many studies to understand the characteristics of the Internet traffic with mathematical statistical approach. The approach of this study is different from previous studies. We first introduced a virtual network concept to present the Internet as a simplified mathematical model. It also represents each traffic flowing on the Internet as a parallel Gaussian channel on the virtual network. We suggest the optimal capacity of each parallel Gaussian channel using some related studies on the Gaussian channel model.

  • The growth of the internet shopping mall has led to a critical mass of consumers and firms participating in a global online marketplace. This study is devoted to providing a conceptual framework for describing and analyzing the characteristics of internet shopping mall. We proposed a model which classifies internet shopping mall into four types, including (1) general intermediary (2) general direct-sales (3) specialized intermediary (4) specialized direct-sales. Our framework facilitates greater understanding of the internet shopping mall as commercial medium and allows examination of internet shopping mall in terms of the opportunities and challenges firms facing online business.

  • The exponential growth of the Internet has been the advent of buying and selling products and services over the Internet. In Korea, electronic commerce including Internet commerce reached a ₩6,534 billion industry in the year 2002. This paper presents the importance of understanding and managing consumer trust to sellers succeed in Internet commerce. We tested a trust model that includes seller's trustworthiness-based factors and consumer's personality-based factors. We found that seller's trustworthiness-based factors lead to greater consumer trust in Internet shopping through the consumer's perceptions about integrity, benevolence, reputation, and size, but consumer's personality-based factors containing five traits, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness, and trust propensity, have not a significant effect on consumer trust. We also confirmed a positive relationship between consumer trust in Internet shopping and consumer intention to buy.

  • The needs of strategic approach toward the usage of the Internet in corporate context are increasingly important as digital economy changes the way of doing business. However, companies are not easily taking the opportunity since the strategic use of the Internet is difficult because of the conflicts in distribution, business process, organization structure, etc. The Internet strategy applicable to companies in a generic context is proposed by identifying the CSFs (Critical Sucess Factors) in exploiting the potential of the internet. CSFs are derived by the previous study and case analysis, from which two most important factors are chosen based on a survey. In the survey, the ranking of the significance of the 8 CFSs from the 25 cases is questioned to the internet experts. Then a $2{\times}$2$ matrix is designed to find the optimal area for a company to be successful in the Internet usage. The strategy suggested here appears to be the shifting strategy in order to be in the optimal area in using the Internet strategically.

  • This paper examines internet addiction from the perspective of consumer studies. Internet addiction could be an interesting issue for consumer studies because it is a sort of consumer behavior that has drawn a lot of social concerns in rapidly informatized era. First, the paper explores the status quo of internet addiction in Korea through the analysis of a questionnaire survey. Secondly, it explains causes of internet addiction focusing on alienation in addition to personality and demographic factors. Thirdly, it describes the characteristics of the behavior of internet-addictive users clustered by internet addiction degree. Based on these descriptions and analyses, the study provides suggestions for establishing more effective consumer policies and educational programs to help limit the growth of internet addiction.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine stress and social support according to Internet addiction in juveniles. Method: Subjects were middle and high school students in Daegu (N=492). Data were collected using a self-rating questionnaire including demographic data, which was the Korean versions of an Internet addiction scale, a stress scale and a social support scale. Results: Stress and social support were significantly different according to Internet addition. Significant correlations were observed between Internet addiction and stress and between Internet addiction and social support. Conclusion: These results indicate that the more addictive to the Internet a student is, the more stress and the less social support he/she has. Therefore, further studies are needed to generalize these results and examine widely the effects of Internet addiction.

The Effect of Perceived Benefits and Obstacles on the Continuous Internet Adoption Intention in Fashion Companies

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how the perceived benefits and obstacles of fashion companies, which utilizes the internet as a marketing or commercial transaction tool, have effect on the continuous internet adoption intention, and to analyze the differences between the companies that have introduced the internet commercial transaction and those that have not. A survey was conducted from January $15^{th}$ to February $20^{th}$ in 2009, among the employees of fashion companies carrying out internet business. A total of 314 respondents used in the data analysis, the statistical analysis methods were frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, t-test and multiple regression analysis. The results show that the elevation of the business results, improvement in customer relationship and raise in market reactivity of the perceived benefits has effect on the continuous internet adoption intention of fashion companies. There are differences in the elevation of the business results, improvement in consumer relationship, miscellaneous expenses and the continuous internet adoption intention between companies that introduced a internet commercial transaction system and those that have not.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of the Internet channel introduction on the channel composed of a monopoly manufacturer and an independent physical retailer. This study also examines what would be the best strategy for the Independent physical retailer to respond to the new internet channel entry. The game theoretic model consists of a monopolist manufacturer selling its product through a channel system including one independent physical store before the entry of an internet store. The audition of the internet store to this channel system results in a mixed channel comprised of two different types of channels. The new internet store is launched by the manufacturer. The results show that an Internet channel entry has the following impacts on the existing channel members. First, the manufacturer's internet channel introduction mitigates the double marginalization problem of the traditional channel. Second, the manufacturer could enhance Its channel power by introducing its own internet channel while it diminishes that of the incumbent independent physical retailer. Third, manufacturer's adding a new internet store leads to a higher demand. Finally, with its own internet direct channel, the manufacturer has an opportunity to practice price discrimination. The manufacture leaves only those with a strong preference for the physical store to be served by the Independent physical store. The results suggest that the independent physical store's best strategy to the entry of the manufacturer's Internet channel is to focus on the consumers who are highly loyal to the physical store while maintaining a high retail price.

  • Internet is taking up as a new culture on the cyber-space beyond a simple hobby as its utilization ratio is rapidly being spread throughout the world. However most education for internet media has been focused on cyber ethics education and internet addiction. Therefore it arises to need to educate internet literacy for positive and desirable usage of internet media raises. Previous research on media eduction doesn't have been analyzed the outcome of media education. In this study, we show the result of internet media education which performed for fostering internet literacy. For the analysis of education result we observed emotional attitude about internet, internet media recognition, efficacy of using internet, and consciousness of internet ethics for middle school student. As a result, there are many changes for emotional attitude about internet, ability of using internet media, and consciousness of internet ethics.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Internet shopping interests on the casual relationships among Internet shopping mall attributes, emotions, and impulse buying behavior. Data were obtained from 414 internet shoppers who had bought fashion products in internet shopping mall. The result showed that the highly interested Internet shoppers, when perceived the product attributes of Internet shopping mall, were more likely to feel positive emotions, and then were more likely to buy fashion products impulsively in Internet shopping. The less perceived the convenience of checkout & trust in Internet, the more negative emotions they had. However, the less interested Internet shoppers were more likely to buy impulsively fashion products with positive emotions when they perceived various product assortments, and were negatively influenced by the high speed of loading and promotions of Internet shopping mall. The findings provide implications of impulse buying behavior in Internet shopping malls for fashion products.
