Implementation of VoIP Service in Hybrid Fiber Coaxial Network (Hybrid Fiber Coaxial망에서 VoIP 서비스 구현)

  • As interest in mobile devices and networks has increased recently, voice over internet protocol (VoIP) service, which is a technology for transmitting voice data using an existing internet protocol (IP) network, has rapidly spread, Cheap voice call service has become possible. As the digital broadcasting service becomes popular, hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) network technology, which uses broadband cable network through fusion of broadcasting and communication, utilizes existing communication system and network equipment to provide various new services such as interactive broadcasting service. Therefore, if UGS-AD is applied to VoCM and RTPS is applied to MTA in order to guarantee the quality of voice data in actual HFC Internet service network, it is possible to smoothly perform voice data transmission in narrow upstream band which is a problem in actual commercial HFC network We also proposed a method to improve VoIP service by improving QoS of voice data in HFC Internet service network.

Navigation Control Architecture of the Reactive Layer for Autonomous Mobile Robots (자율이동로봇을 위한 반사층의 실시간 주행제어구조)

  • In a hybrid three-layer control architecture(deliberative, sequencing, and reflexive), the lowest reflexive layer consists of resources, actions, an action coordinator, and motion controllers. Because the execution of individual components in the reflexive layer should be done in real-time, each component has to be simple and, due to this reason, the Linux-RTAI(Real-Time Application Interface for Linux) has been used as an operating system. In this paper, a navigation control architecture, which combines the components in the reflexive layer and the navigation-related modules in the sequencing layer, is proposed. And then, as basic components, four actions(Goto, Avoid, Move, and EmergencyStop) are designed. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed architecture and the performance of individual associated actions.

  • In this paper, we propose a design method and process for hybrid V2X communication platform that combines WAVE communication and LTE-V2X communication which are C-ITS communication protocols for vehicle environments and Legacy LTE communication which is a commercial mobile communication for evaluating the autonomous platooning platform of commercial vehicles. For a safe and efficient autonomous platooning platform, an low-latency communication function based on C-ITS communication is required, and to control it, commercial communication functions such as Legacy LTE, which can be connected at all times, are required. In order to evaluate such a system, the evaluation equipment must have the same level of communication performance or higher. The main design contents presented in this paper will be applied to the implementation of hybrid V2X terminals for functional evaluation.

  • It is well known that GPS cannot provide positioning results if sufficient number of visible satellites are not available. To overcome this weak point, attentions have been recently moved to hybrid positioning methods that augments GPS with other sensors. As an extension of hybrid positiong methods, this paper proposes a new method that combines GPS and vision sensor to improve availability and accuracy of land vehicle positioning. The proposed method does not require any external map information and can provide position solutions if more than 2 navigation satellites are visible. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, an experiment result with real measurements is provided and a result shows that accumulated error of n-axis is almost 2.5meters and that of e-axis is almost 3meters in test section.

  • Recently, with the interest in the 4th industrial revolution, the demand for autonomous driving technology is increasing. V2X communication technology is a core technology for autonomous vehicles that exchanges information with objects such as vehicles, infrastructure, networks, and pedestrians through wired and wireless networks. In this paper, we present the results of the hybrid V2X communication system, which is a hybrid design of WAVE and LTE, and the coverage test to confirm the performance of the system. Through coverage measurement, we show that the hybrid V2X communication performance is superior to the existing LTE or WAVE single communication system in communication coverage, so it can be effectively applied to autonomous driving services.

An Economic Feasibility Study of Wind-Diesel Hybrid Power Systems for an Island in the Yellow Sea (서해 도서지역의 풍력-디젤 하이브리드 발전에 대한 경제성 분석)

  • In this paper, an economic feasibility study of wind-diesel hybrid power systems for an island in the Yellow Sea, where the maximum power generation is about 500kW, was performed. For the study, annual electric load variation and wind resource data of the island were collected and analyzed. HOMER program - a typical hybrid optimization model for electric renewables including wind resource, developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory - was used. Wind speed and diesel price were picked out as variables for the sensitivity analysis in order to find the economic accountability for the wind-diesel hybrid power system. As the result, even though it is not feasible economically under the present condition, if mean wind speed is over 3 m/sec. or diesel price goes up to 2.4 $ per liter, the wind-diesel hybrid power system for the island becomes a prospective candidate.

  • As personal robots coexist with a person with a role to help a person, while adapting various human life and environment, the personal robots have to accommodate frequently-changing or different-from-home-to-home environment. In addition, personal robots may have many kinds of different Kinematic configurations depending on the capabilities. Some may have a mobile base and others may have arms and a head. The motivation of this study arises from this not-well-defined home environment and varying Kinematic configuration. So the goal of this study is to develop a general control architecture for personal robots. There exist three major architectures; deliberative, reactive and hybrid. We found that these are applicable only for the defined environment with a fixed Kinematic configuration. Neither could accommodate the above two requirements. For the general solution, we propose a Supervised Hybrid Architecture (SHA), in which we use double layers of deliberative and reactive controls, distributed control with a modular design of Kinematic configurations, and real-time Linux OS. Deliberative and reactive actions interact through a corresponding arbitrator. These arbitrators help a robot to choose an appropriate architecture depending on the current situation to successfully perform a given task. The distributed control modules communicate through IEEE 1394 for the easy expandability. With a personal robot platform with a mobile base, two arms, a head and a pan-tilt stereo eye system, we tested the developed SHA for static as well as dynamic environments. For this application, we developed decision-making rules for selecting appropriate control methods for several situations of navigation task. Examples are shown to show the effectiveness.

  • In this paper, an image segmentation algorithm is described to extract both the contour line and the inner grid patterns of body in case of ambiguous environment. The binary method using a threshold is used to extract image boundary. To reduce image noise, the $3{\times}3$ hybrid high pass filter adjusted for applying 3D information extraction of complicated shape object is proposed. This hybrid high pass filter algorithm can be applied to extract complicated shape object such as 3D body shape, CAD system, and factory automation since the processing time for image denoising is shorter than the conventional methods.

  • Ocean structure's power system is difficult to construct a stand-alone power system. Therefore, to manage effectively power system of ocean structure, it's important to construct power system which is connected fuel-cell with hybrid power system. This paper designs power system of fuel-cell for the sea based on hydrogen generation mechanism, calculation of using electric power, etc. Designed power system is analysed & simulated using LabVIEW program. And, this paper suggests design method of power system for ocean structure based on analysed & simulated results.

  • The localization performance in the ship environment is degraded by RF interference due to steel structure characteristics and NLOS environment. In this paper, a wireless hybrid localization system using ZigBee, UWB, and LF technologies is proposed to improve position estimation accuracy in the ship environment.
