  • Since The measured solar radiation incident on tilted surfaces by all directions has been widely used as important solar radiation data in installing solar flat-plate collectors. To maximize the incident beam radiation, the slope, which is the angle between the plane of the surface in question and the horizontal, and the solar azimuth angles are needed for these solar thermal systems. This is because the performance of the solar thermal system is much affected by angle and direction of incident rays. Recognizing those factors mentioned above are of importance, actual experiment has been performed in this research to obtain the angle of inclination with which the maximum incident rays can be absorbed. The results obtained in this research could be used in installing optimal solar flat-plate collectors.

  • We investigated the horizontal alignment properties such as surface morphology, pretilt angle, and polar and azimuthal anchoring energy of organic alignment material-coated surface treated by ion beam. In this investigation the energy and incident angle of ion beam were changed. We also fabricated an in-plane switching (IPS) cell by ion beam alignment. The results showed similar voltage-transmittance characteristics to those of a rubbed cell and better dark state.

  • The present paper defines diversity gain for stationary users. This deals in particular with gathering the received signal statistics over possible user positions and orientations in space rather than over time, and to define a meaningful diversity gain related to the cumulative improvement of the performances of the 1% users with the worst receiving conditions. The definition is used to evaluate diversity gain for some typical small antennas in an extreme environment with only line-of-sight (LOS). The LOS environment is regarded as user-distributed 3D-random LOS caused by the statistics of an ensemble of stationary users with arbitrary orientations in the horizontal plane (2D), and with arbitrary orientations of their wireless devices in the vertical plane. Thus, an overall 3D-random distribution of user orientation is assumed.

  • A new slot-coupled back-to-back microstrip array antenna is proposed for using in the IMT-2000 base station or repeater antenna. This antenna is composed of symmetrical SSAIP(Strip Slot, Air Inverted Patch) It has bidirectional radiation pattern in horizontal plane and 22.5$^{\circ}$main beam squint in vertical plane. The analysis is based on the cavity model and the design is achieved using Ensemble. Experimental results for the radiation pattern and the return loss have shown that the direction of the main beam is about 21$^{\circ}$and the impedance bandwidth is approximately 22.9% Thus the proposed antenna is able to operate over both uplink and downlink frequencies in IMT-2000.

  • Faces of normal occlusion, open bite and class III malocclusion were measured using cephalogram in 190 male and female subjects. Using M.K.G., types of mandibular movement, amount of horizontal and vertical movement were studied in relation to occlusal types, and were compared with each other. The following conclusions were obtained. 1. Movement of protrusion was most different in relation to occlusal type. 2. In normal occlusion, maximal protrusion were horizontal 7.66mm, vertical 3.01mm in male, 6.41, 2.92mm respectively in female and maximal inferior position were -24.32, 33.63mm in male,-23.48, 32.27mm respectively in female. 3. Angle between maximal inferior position and horizontal plane were $53.51^{\circ}$ in male, $53.84^{\circ}$ in female. 4. Generally, amount of mandibular movement was greater in male than female. 5. In open bite, path of protrusion was nearly straight without curve $69.2\%$ in male, $70.2\%$ in female. 6. In class III malocclusion, angle and amount of protrusion were smaller than normal occlusion and path was directed anterior-superiorly in $22.7\%$. 7. There was no correlation coefficient between measurement of face and mandibular movement.

  • This study was aimed to investigate the characteristics & the causative areas of the adult skeletal class III malocclusions with different facial divergency. The lateral cephalograms of 80 subjects with skeletal class III malocclusion from 17 to 29 years of age were classified into 3 groups according to SN-MP angle; hypodivergent group $(21.65{\pm}3.52^{\circ})$, neutrodivergent group $(30.50{\pm}2.29^{\circ})$ and hyperdivergent group $(40.02{\pm}3.98^{\circ})$. The data were gathered by digitizing of the traced cephalograms and were statistically analyzed. The results were as follows: 1. The anterior cranial base of the hyperdivergent group was shortest & tipped upwardly to the FH plane. 2. The maxilla of hyperdivergent group was shortest anteroposteriorly and positioned posteriorly to the anterior cranial base. 3. The degree of the mandibular prognathism in hyperdivergent group was less than the hypodivergent group. The hyperdivergent group showed the downward & backward rotated mandible. 4. The mandibular ramus & body was short & slender in the hyperdivergent group and the gonial angle was greatest in the hyperdivergent group. 5. The temporomandibular joint was positioned more superiorly to the anterior cranial base in the hyperdivergent group. 6. The cranial base, palatal plane, occlusal plane and mandibular plane were diverged in the hyperdivergent group. And this group had a great anterior total facial height, especially anterior lower facial height. 7. The craniofacial characteristics of skeletal class III malocclusion were critical in the vertical structure than the horizontal.

  • Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy, along with Sagittal Split Ramus Osteotomy,is an popular surgical technique performed on mandibular prognathism. However Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy has been suspected for an initial mobilization at the healing phase of segment because it does not employ the rigid fixation between segments. To execute a study on the healing phase of segment after Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy on the horizontal plane, 102 patients (204 parts) who were diagnosed mandibular prognathism and took Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy at the Yonsei University dental hospital were observed during the period of before operation, immediately postoperation, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months. The change in the width of segment and horizontal angle of proximal segment and condylar head on the Submentovertex Cephalogram taken from those patients represented following results. 1. The width of proximal and distal segment decreased with the lapse of time. It decreased into 84.5% between immediate postoperative and 6M and even continued to decrease till 12M. 2. The horizontal angle of the proximal segment did medial rotation according as the lapse of time and rigorously continued till 3M. The rotation angle of condylar head indicated its tendency of recurrence to the original position but the entire recurrence was not allowed. The bigger an initial angle was, the higher was the tendency of recurrence after the operation while the rotation angle remained still bigger. 3. After grouping into group 1, group 2,and group 3 based on the extent of the variation of rotation angle of condylar head at immediate postoperative, the variation of rotation angle was measures in each group. The result presented that the initial rotation angle of condylar head had correlation with that of proximal segment but had no relation with the extent of setback of the mandible. However a quantitative analysis alone is not a sufficient method for analyzing the healing phase of segment on the horizontal plane. Therefore a multilateral analysis using 3 dimensional data such as CT is recommendable for the future study.

  • In this paper, we design and fabricate an ultra small dual crossed dipole antenna operating at 2.4 GHz frequency. In order to miniaturize the size of the antenna so that it can be applied to a mobile device, a cross dipole is disposed on the upper two layers and a reflection plane, a horizontal matching circuit and a ground plane are arranged on each layer. The circuit was connected by a vertical through-hole. The size of the fabricated antenna is $21.61mm{\times}16.88mm{\times}1.27mm$, the measured reflection coefficient is -31.5 dB, and the bandwidth below -10 dB is 112 MHz. In addition, since the gain of the antenna is -4 dBi, it has the omnidirectional radiation characteristic, so it can be applied to various fields as an antenna for mobile devices.
