In a switching power supply, the high frequency switching makes the passive components small, but the losses and the stresses of switches are increased by the switching frequency. Therefore, zero crossing technology using resonant is used to improve defect in high switching. In generally, zero crossing switching consists of Zero Current Switching(ZCS) and Zero Voltage Switching(ZVS). This paper proposes A Buck ZC-ZVS Converter with Reduced Conduction Losses. Comparing with a conventional Buck ZC-ZVS Converter, the proposed converter operates with the smaller rated power. This is achieved by changing the auxiliary switch position, which reduces its rating power. Simulation results using Pspice program about test circuit with rated 160W(30V, 5.3A) at 30kHz and experiment result under same condition were described in the paper.

For better evaluation of material thickness by using the reflection type pulsed eddy current method, various probe models are designed and their response signals, characteristics, and sensitivities to thickness variation are investigated by a numerical analysis method. Since the sensor needs to detect magnetic fields from eddy currents induced in a test material, not from the exciter coil, two types of models that are shielded by the combination of copper and ferrite and only by ferrite are considered. By studying response signals from these shielded probe models, the peak value and the zero crossing time are selected as useful signal features for the evaluation of material thickness. Investigation of sensitivities of these two features shows that the sensitivity of peak value is more useful than that of zero crossing time and that the probe shielded only by ferrite gives much better sensitivity to thickness variation.

Due to the friction characteristics of cylinders and the rail of a passenger car, in the system actuated with hydraulic systems, there exist dead zones, which can not be controlled by a PID controller. In this paper, the friction characteristics of a cylinder is examined, which may cause the abrupt increase of the acceleration in the zero-crossing speed region. To overcome the drawbacks of a PID controlled hydraulic system, a zooming fuzzy logic controller is designed and finally an improved hybrid controller is Proposed. The proposed controller is composed of the PID controller and the zooming fuzzy controller. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is shown by simulation and experimental results, In which the proposed hybrid control method yields good control performance not only in the zero-crossing speed region but also In the overall control region including steady-state region.

This paper proposes a simple digital image stabilization(DIS) algorithm for roll motion, which has not been compensated in the 2-axes mechanical stabilization system, using aero-crossing of the rotational motion vectors. The 2-axes stabilization system cannot stabilize rolled images, which causes the deteriorated performance of the object detection and recognition. In this paper, we propose the rotational motion stabilization algorithm which estimates and compensates global motion in terms of rotational center and rotational angle. Both the synthetic images with undesirable rotational disturbance and the real images from 2-axes stabilization system are used to evaluate the proposed algorithm. The results show that our proposed algorithm suppresses the undesirable rotational disturbance effectively.
This paper presents a scheme to improve the line current distortion of power factor corrector (PFC) topology at the zero crossing point using a predictive control algorithm in both the continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). The line current in single-phase PFC topology is distorted at the zero crossing point of the input AC voltage because of the characteristic of the general proportional integral (PI) current controller. This distortion degrades the line current quality, such as the total harmonic distortion (THD) and the power factor (PF). Given the optimal duty cycle calculated by estimating the next state current in both the CCM and DCM, the proposed predictive control algorithm has a fast dynamic response and accuracy unlike the conventional PI current control method. These advantages of the proposed algorithm lower the line current distortion of PFC topology. The proposed method is verified through PSIM simulations and experimental results with 1.5 kW bridgeless PFC (BLPFC) topology.

This paper is concentrated on map generalization in digital environment for automated multi-scale map pro-duction using conventional hardcopy maps. Line generalization is urgently required process to prepare small scale digital map database when large scale map databases are available. This paper outlines a new approach to the line generalization when preparing small scale map on the basis of existing large scale distal map. Line generalizations are conducted based on zero-crossing algorithm using six sheets of 115,000 scale YEOSU area which produced by National Geographic Institute. The results are compared to Douglas-Peucker algorithm and manual method. The study gives full details of the data reduction rates and alternatives based on the proposed algorithm.
Temperature is a critical parameter in yield improvement for wafer manufacturing. In chemical vapor deposition (CVD) equipment, crack defect in ceramic heater leads to yield reduction, however, there is no suitable ceramic heater fault detection system for conventional CVD equipment. This paper proposes a short-time zero-crossing rate based fault detection method for the ceramic heater in CVD equipment. The proposed method measures the output signal ($V_{pp}$) of RF filter and extracts the zero-crossing rate (ZCR) as feature vector. The extracted feature vectors have a discriminant power and Gaussian mixture model (GMM) based fault detection method can detect fault in ceramic heater. Experimental results, carried out by measured signals provided by a CVD equipment manufacturer, indicate that the proposed method detects effectively faults in various process conditions.

In this study, a spiking cortical model (SCM) based n-g discrimination method is proposed. The SCM-based algorithm is compared with three other methods, namely: (i) the pulse-coupled neural network (PCNN), (ii) the charge comparison, and (iii) the zero-crossing. The objective evaluation criteria used for the comparison are the FoM-value and the time consumption of discrimination. Experimental results demonstrated that our proposed method outperforms the other methods significantly with the highest FoM-value. Specifically, the proposed method exhibits a 34.81% improvement compared with the PCNN, a 50.29% improvement compared with the charge comparison, and a 110.02% improvement compared with the zero-crossing. Additionally, the proposed method features the second-fastest discrimination time, where it is 75.67% faster than the PCNN, 70.65% faster than the charge comparison and 38.4% slower than the zero-crossing. Our study also discusses the role and change pattern of each parameter of the SCM to guide the selection process. It concludes that the SCM's outstanding ability to recognize the dynamic information in the pulse signal, improved accuracy when compared to the PCNN, and better computational complexity enables the SCM to exhibit excellent n-γ discrimination performance while consuming less time.
An auditory model is proposed for robust speech recognition in noisy environments. The model consists of cochlear bandpass filters and nonlinear stages, and represents frequency and intensity information efficiently even in noisy environments. Frequency information of the signal is obtained by zero-crossing intervals, and intensity information is also incorporated by peak detectors and saturating nonlinearities. Also, the robustness of the zero-crossings in estimating frequency is verified by the developed analytic relationship of the variance of the level-crossing interval perturbations as a function of the crossing level values. The proposed auditory model is computationally efficient and free from many unknown parameters compared with other auditory models. Speaker-independent speech recognition experiments demonstrate the robustness of the proposed method.
This paper discusses the influence on long-tenn predictions of the ship response in ocean by using the Global Wave Statistics data, GWS, and wave information from the remote sensing satellites. GWS's standard scatter diagrams of significant wave height and zero-crossing wave period are suggested to be corrected to a round number of 0.01/1000 fitted with a statistical analytic model of the conditional lognormal distribution for zero-crossing wave period. The GEOSAT satellite data are utilized which presented by I. R. Young and G. J. Holland (1996, named as GEOSAT data). At first, qualities of this data are investigated, and statistical characteristic trends are studied by means of applying known probability distribution functions. The wave height data of GEOSAT are compared to the data observed onboard merchant ships, the data observed by measure instrument installed on the ocean-going container ship and so on. To execute a long-tenn prediction of ship response, joint probability functions between wave height and wave period are introduced, therefore long-term statistical predictions are executed by using the functions.
