The objectives of this study were to determine the natural frequency of a walking-type cultivator's handle using a modal analysis, to determine whether or not the handle resonates with forcing frequency induced by its engine, and to determine a method to reduce the handle vibration using a technique of the operational deflection shapes(ODS). Results of the study are as follows: The natural frequencies of the handle up to third harmonics were found to be 20.4, 22.5 and 92.1 Hz in the vertical direction and 14.9, 93, and 132 Hz in the horizontal direction. It was found that the handle does not resonate with the forcing frequency of the engine, which is 52 Hz. The operational deflection shape analysis revealed the deflected shapes of the handle in the vertical and horizontal directions and suggested that the handle vibration can be reduced by adding some mass to the place where the largest deflection occurs. Attaching of 1.1 kg mass adjacent to the largely deflected area resulted in reductions of vibration from 9.45 to 8.03 m/s$^2$ in x-axis direction from 3.89 to 3.16 m/s$^2$ in y-axis direction and from 7.89 to 3.09 m/s$^2$ in z-axis direction, which are respectively 15, 19 and 61% reductions. The total vibration level was reduced by 29%, indicating that mass-adding method by the ODS is very effective for reducing the handle vibrations of the cultivators.

An iterative scheme for computing the three-dimensional position and the surface orientation of an opaque object from a singel shaded image is proposed. This method demonstrates that calculating the depth(distance) between the camera and the object from one shaded video image is possible. Most previous research works on $'Shape from Shading$' problem, even in the $'Photometric Stereo Method$', invoved the determination of surface orientation only. To measure the depth of an object, depth of the object, and the reflectance properties of the surface. Assuming that the object surface is uniform Lambertian the measured intensity level at a given image pixel*x,y0becomes a function of surface orientation and depth component of the object. Derived Image Irradiance Equation can`t be solved without further informations since three unknown variables(p,q and D) are in one nonlinear equation. As an additional constraints we assume that surface satisfy smoothness conditions. Then equation can be solved relaxatively using standard methods of TEX>$'Calculus of VariationTEX>$'. After checking the sensitivity of the algorithm to the errors ininput parameters, the theoretical results is tested by experiments. Three objects (plane, cylinder, and sphere)are used. Thees initial results are very encouraging since they match the theoretical calculations within 20$\%$ error in simple experiments.> error in simple experiments.

In this paper, w designed an opical power distribution device for application to an optical switching and an optical subscriber loop. We fabricated PSG thin film by LPCVD. Based on the measured index of fabricted thin film, rib-type waveguide was transformed to two-dimension by the effective index method and we simulated dispersion property to find asingle-mode condition. We found that the optimum design parameters of rib-type waveguide are:cladding layer of 3.mu.m, core layer of 3.mu.m, buffer layer of 10.mu.m, and core width of 4.mu.m. Each side of the guiding region was etched down to 4.mu.m to shape the core. We used these optimum parameters of the rib-type waveguide with branching angle of 0.5.deg. and simulted the Y-branch waveguide by the BPM simulation. Numerical loss in branching area was claculated to be 0.1581dB and equal to the total loss of the Y-branch. The loss of the fabricated Y-branch waveguide on PSG film ws 1.6dB at .lambda.=1.3.mu.m before annealing but was 1.2dB after annealing at 1000.deg. C for 10 minutes. Consequently, the loss of branching area from 3000.mu.m to 6000.mu.m in the z-direction was 0.8dB, and single-mode propagation was confirmed by measuring the near field pattern. For coupling the fabricated Y-branch waveguide with an optical fiber, we fabricated V-groove which was used as the upholder of optical fiber. An etching angle was 54.deg. and the width and depth of guiding groove was 150.mu.m, 70.mu.m, respectively. The optical fiber is inserted onto V-groove. Both the Y-branch and V-groove were connected through the index matching oil. Coupling loss after connecting Y-branch and the optical fiber on V-groove was 0.34dB and that after injecting index mateching oil was 0.14dB.
This paper represents axial mean velocity, turbulent kinetic energy and swirl number based on momentum flux measured in the X-Y plane and Y-Z plane respectively of a cone type gas swirl burner by using X-probe from the hot-wire anemometer system. This experiment is carried out at flow rates 350 and $450{\ell}/min$ respectively, which are equivalent to the combustion air flow rate necessary for heat release 15,000 kcal/hr in gas furnace, in the test section of a subsonic wind tunnel. Axial mean velocities and turbulent kinetic energies show that their maximum values exist centering around narrow slits situated radially on the edge of and in the forefront of a burner until $X/R{\fallingdotseq}1.5$, but they have a peculiar shape like a starfish diffusing and developing into inward and outward of a burner by means of the mixing between flows ejected from narrow slits, an inclination baffle plate and swirl vanes respectively according to downstream regions. Moreover, they show a relatively large value in the inner region of 0.5$S_m$ obtained by integration of velocity profiles shows a characteristic that has an inflection point composing of the maximum and minimum value until X/R<3, but shows close agreement with the geometric swirl number after a distance of X/R=3.
Sewer deterioration models are needed to forecast the remaining life expectancy of sewer networks by assessing their conditions. In this study, the serious defect (or condition state 3) occurrence probability, at which sewer rehabilitation program should be implemented, was evaluated using four probability distribution functions such as normal, lognormal, exponential, and Weibull distribution. A sample of 252 km of CCTV-inspected sewer pipe data in city Z was collected in the first place. Then the effective data (284 sewer sections of 8.15 km) with reliable information were extracted and classified into 3 groups considering the sub-catchment area, sewer material, and sewer pipe size. Anderson-Darling test was conducted to select the most fitted probability distribution of sewer defect occurrence as Weibull distribution. The shape parameters (β) and scale parameters (η) of Weibull distribution were estimated from the data set of 3 classified groups, including standard errors, 95% confidence intervals, and log-likelihood values. The plot of probability density function and cumulative distribution function were obtained using the estimated parameter values, which could be used to indicate the quantitative level of risk on occurrence of CS3. It was estimated that sewer data group 1, group 2, and group 3 has CS3 occurrence probability exceeding 50% at 13th-year, 11th-year, and 16th-year after the installation, respectively. For every data groups, the time exceeding the CS3 occurrence probability of 90% was also predicted to be 27th- to 30th-year after the installation.
Rigid body spring method (RBSM) is an effective tool to simulate the cracking process of structures, and has been successfully applied to investigate the behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) members. However, the theoretical researches and engineering applications of this method mainly focus on two-dimensional problems as yet, which greatly limits its applications in actual engineering projects. In this study, a three-dimensional (3-D) RBSM for RC structures is proposed. In the proposed model, concrete, reinforcing steels, and their interfaces are represented as discrete entities. Concrete is partitioned into a collection of rigid blocks and a uniform distribution of normal and tangential springs is defined along their boundaries to reflect its material properties. Reinforcement is modeled as a series of bar elements which can be freely positioned in the structural domain and irrespective of the mesh geometry of concrete. The bond-slip characteristics between reinforcing steel and concrete are also considered by introducing special linkage elements. The applicability and effectiveness of the proposed method is firstly confirmed by an elastic T-shape beam, and then it is applied to analyze the failure processes of a Z-type component under direct shear loading and a RC beam under two-point loading.

Many authors issued the feature-preserving averaging technique according to positioning and scaling process using landmarks, which represent the geometric characteristics of three dimensional surface models. Such a technique should be done by manual procedure, choosing and marking the landmarks on each bone surface before averaging process. In this study, we produced another averaging technique without having to use such manual procedure, and made averaging models from three dimensional surface data that were reconstructed from computerized tomography images of Digital Korean Project. The bone models were subjected to orthogonal coordinator system. These models were transformed to coincide mass center and to align principal axis. Then, bone models were scaled according to average length data of sample bone models on all axis(x, y, z). After establishing voxellar hexahedron space which contain all sample bone models, we counted the number of overlapping for each voxel. We generated the three dimensional average surface by displaying the yokels that have more overlapping number than boundary number. The boundary number was decided when the average volume of each bone equal to the volume of bone that would be averaged. Using this technique, we can make a feature-preserving averaging volume of bones.

This paper presented as follows results of laboratory model tests with various shaped footings on soil bed reinforced with the strips on the base of behaviour of soil structure according to the loads and triaxial test results reinforced with geotextiles. Their parameters studied were the effects on the bearing capacity of a footing of the first layer of reinforcement, horizontal and vertical spacing of layers, number of layers, tensile strength of reinforcement and iclination load to the vertical 1.Depending on the strip arrangement, ultimate bearing capacity values could be more improved than urreinforced soil and the failure of soil was that the soil structure was transfered from the macrospace to microspase and its arrangement, from edge to edge to face to face. 2.The reinforcement was produced the reinforcing effects due to controlling the value of factor of one and permeable reinforcement was never a barrier of drainage condition. 3.Strength ratio was decreased as a linear shape according to increment of saturation degree of soil used even though at the lower strength ratio, the value of M-factor was rot influenced on the strength ratio but impermeable reinforcement decreased the strength of bearing capacity. 4.Ultimate bearing capacity under the plane-strain condition was appeared a little larger than triaxial or the other theoretical formulars and the circular footing more effective. 5.The maximum reinforcing effects were obtained at U I B=o.5, B / B=3 and N=3, when over that limit only acting as a anchor, and same strength of fabric appeared larger reinforcing effects compared to the thinner one. 6.As the LDR increased, more and more BCR occurred and there was appeared a block action below Z / B=O.5, but over the value, decrement of BCR was shown linear relation, and no effects above one. 7.The coefficient of the inclination was shown of minimum at the three layers of fabrics, but the value of H / B related to the ultimate load was decreased as increment of inclination degree, even though over the value of 4.5 there wasn't expected to the reinforcing effects As a consequence of the effects on load inclination, the degree of inclination of 15 per cent was decreased the bearing capacity of 70 per cent but irnproved the effects of 45 per cent through the insertion of geotextile.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of salivary contamination of teeth on bonding efficacy of self-priming and self-etching DBSs. The materials used were Single Bond(SB, self-priming system, 3M), Unifil Bond(UB, self-etching system, GC), and Scotchbond Multi-Purpose Plus(SM, 3M) as control. Forty five human molars randomly allocated to three groups as dentin bonding systems tested and embedded in epoxy resin. Then the specimens were wet-ground to expose flat buccal enamel surface or flat occlusal dentin surface and cut bucco-lingually to form two halves with slow speed diamond saw. One of them was used under non-contamination, other under contamination with saliva. The bonding procedure was according to the manufacturer's directions and resin composite(Z-100, 3M Dental Products, St. Paul, MN) was built-up on the bonded surface 5mm high. The specimens were ground carefully at the enamel-composite interface with fine finishing round diamond bur to create an hour-glass shape yielding bonded surface areas of $1.5{\pm}0.1\textrm{mm}^2$. The specimens were bonded to the modified microtensile testing apparatus with cyanoacrylate, attached to the universal testing machine and stressed in tension at a CHS of 1mm/min. The tensile force at failure was recorded and converted to a tensile stress(MPa). Mean values and standard deviations of the bond strength are listed in table. One-way ANOVA was used to determine significant difference at the 95% level. The bond strength of SBMP and SB were not affected by salivary contamination, but that of UB was significantly affected by salivary contamination. These results indicate that DBSs with total etch technique seems less likely affected by salivary contamination in bonding procedure.
Nitrogen ion implantation in Nimonic 80A using plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII) was investigated at a pulse voltage of -60 kV and ion dose of $3{\times}10^{17}{\sharp}/cm^2$, $6{\times}10^{17}{\sharp}/cm^2$, $12{\times}10^{17}{\sharp}/cm^2$. PIII is an effective technology to improve the surface hardness and wear resistance of materials. And also this technology is not limited by the shape and size of materials. PIII would be a promising technique in the future. Surface hardness and wear resistance of the $N^+$ ion implanted Nimonic 80A were increased with the increase in the incident ion dose. The surface hardness of the untreated Nimonic 80A is 420 Hv, the hardness of implanted Nimonic 80A is 1050 Hv at $N^+$ ion dose of $12{\times}10^{17}{\sharp}/cm^2$. The wear loss of the untreated is 82.5 mg, the wear loss of the implanted is 0.004g at $N^+$ ion dose of $12{\times}10^{17}{\sharp}/cm^2$. The $Cr_2N$ is detected on the surface of the implanted Nimonic 80A by XRD analysis.
