  • This paper studies an intelligent digital control for nonlinear systems with multirate sampling. It is worth noting that the multirate control design is addressed for a given nonlinear system represented by Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy models. The main features of the proposed method are that i) it is provided that the sufficient conditions for stabilization of the discrete-time T-S fuzzy system in the sense of Lyapunov stability criterion, which is can be formulated in the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs); and ii) the stability properties of the trivial solution of the digital control system can be deduced from that of the solution of its discretized versions. An example is provided for showing the feasibility of the proposed method.

  • This paper studies an automation problem of a heating, a ventilating, and an air conditioning (HVAC) for the development of smart space. The HVAC system is described by the fuzzy system for the stability analysis and the controller design. The linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) conditions are derived for the stabilization problem of the closed-loop system under the analog control. Also, it is required to digitally redesign the pre-designed the analog HVAC control system in order to accomplish the remote control via web. It is shown the this digital redesign problem can be converted to the convex optimization problem with the LMI constraints. An example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • It is shown that $f:\mathbb{R}{\rightarrow}\mathbb{R}$ satisfies the following functional inequalities (0.1) ${\mid}f(x)+f(y){\mid}{\leq}{\mid}f(x+y){\mid}$, (0.2) ${\mid}f(x)+f(y){\mid}{\leq}{\mid}2f(\frac{x+y}{2}){\mid}$, (0.3) ${\mid}f(x)+f(y)-2f(\frac{x-y}{2}){\mid}{\leq}{\mid}2f(\frac{x+y}{2}){\mid}$, respectively, then the function $f:\mathbb{R}{\rightarrow}\mathbb{R}$ satisfies the Cauchy functional equation, the Jensen functional equation and the Jensen quadratic functional equation, respectively.

  • The purpose of this qualitative case study was to investigate the causes and processes of marital conflicts among intermarried families in Korea. The participants were 19 Korean men and their 19 Filipino spouses, who had experienced domestic violence. Their marital conflicts seemed to result from their lack of information about each other due to the short-term courtship, from the marital inequality based on the wives' lower economic status, and from the mother-in-law's interference in their marital relationships. Korean men showed ambivalent feelings about their wives' adaptation to Korean society. They wanted their wives to team Korean culture but worried that their young and educated wife might leave them, which could be called as "the fairy and woodman syndrome." The exploratory view of the study highlights the important psychosocial and cultural aspects of marital conflicts, and suggests the supporting systems for the intermarried families in Korea.

  • In this paper, we develop an optimal intelligent digital redesign method for a class of fuzzy-model-based controllers, effective for stabilization of continuous-time complex nonlinear systems. Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model is used to extend the results of the classical digital redesign technique to complex nonlinear systems. Unlike the conventional intelligent digital redesign technique reported in the literature, the proposed method utilized the recently developed LMI optimization technique to obtain a digitally redesigned fuzzy-model-based controller. Precisely speaking, the intelligent digital redesign problem is converted to an equivalent optimization problem, and the LMI optimization method is used to find the digitally redesigned fuzzy-model-based controller. A numerical example is provided to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed approach.

  • This paper deals with a design problem of a switching-type fuzzy-model-based controller for a nonlinear system. Takagi-Sugeno(TS) fuzzy model and duffing forced-oscillation system are employed in designing the switching-type fuzzy controller. Finally, we analyze the stability of the global system controlled by the proposed controller.

  • This paper presents a new linear-matrix-inequality-based intelligent digital redesign (LMI-based IDR) technique to match the states of the analog and the digital T-S fuzzy control systems at the intersampling instants as well as the sampling ones. The main features of the proposed technique are: 1) the affine control scheme is employed to increase the degree of freedom; 2) the fuzzy-model-based periodic control is employed, and the control input is changed n times during one sampling period; 3) The proposed IDR technique is based on the approximately discretized version of the T-S fuzzy system, but its discretization error vanishes as n approaches the infinity. 4) some sufficient conditions involved in the state matching and the stability of the closed-loop discrete-time system can be formulated in the LMIs format.

  • In our previous paper, we developed a robust saturation controller for the linear time-invariant (LTI) system involving both actuator's saturation and structured real parameter uncertainties. This controller can only guarantee the closed-loop robust stability of the system in the presence of actuator's saturation. But we cannot analytically make any comment on control performance of this controller. In this paper, we suggest a method to use linear matrix inequality (LMI) optimization problem which can analytically explain control performance of this robust saturation controller only in nominal system. The availability of design method using LMI optimization problem for this robust saturation controller is verified through a numerical example for the building with an active mass damper (AMD) system.

  • In this paper, a linear matrix inequality(LMI)-based robust control method, which combines model predictive control(MPC) with the feedback linearization(FL), is presented for constrained nonlinear systems with parameter uncertainty. The design procedures consist of the following 3 steps: Polytopic description of nonlinear system with a parameter uncertainty via FL, Mapping of actual input constraint by FL into constraint on new input of linearized system, Optimization of the constrained MPC problem based on LMI. To verify the performance and usefulness of the control method proposed in this paper, some simulations with application to a flexible single link manipulator are performed.
