This study conducted experiments on the reclaimed land of Saemangeum located in Jeongrabuk-do in order to gain basic information about growth characteristics and yield ability according to soil salinity. Having soil excluding salt as a control group, this study adjusted the specimens' soil salinity to level 4 and then planted four varieties including Ilmichal Corn to investigate the growth or grain yield according to salinity. About the corn establishment rate according to soil salinity, over 97% up to $3.2dS\;m^{-1}$ was established, and then, it was reduced gradually according to the increase of concentration. According to the salt concentration of soil more required growth duration from seeding to heading comparing to non-treatment salt was delayed, at $1.6dS\;m^{-1}$, two days were delayed, at $3.2dS\;m^{-1}$, four to six days were delayed differently by varieties, and at $4.8dS\;m^{-1}$, six to 10 days were delayed. About the plant fresh weight according to soil salinity, Chalok 4 and Eolrukchal indicated 93%~97% or so compared with the salt-free one at $1.6dS\;m^{-1}$, and Chalok No. 4 showed 79% at the salinity of $3.2dS\;m^{-1}$, too, and it was a relatively higher growth percentage than those of the other varieties. In terms of dried seed weight according to soil salinity, compared with the corns cultivated in the control group, averagely 12.1% was lowered at the time of cultivation at $1.6dS\;m^{-1}$, and $3.2dS\;m^{-1}$ 40% was lowered, and about 70% was lowered at $4.8dS\;m^{-1}$. According to the result of examining the point of time that dried seed start to reduce due to soil salinity with the regression equation, soil salinity which starts the reduction of grain weight is $1.67dS\;m^{-1}{\sim}2.18dS\;m^{-1}$, and it differs by varieties, and EC of 50% that the yield reduces in half is $2.96dS\;m^{-1}{\sim}4.45dS\;m^{-1}$. And the degree of influence on each of the growth factors according to soil salinity is founded to be in the order of establishment rate

Perilla contains more than 60% of fatty acids. Linolenic acid is effective in preventing heart disease, improving learning ability, treating allergies, and preventing cancer. This study was carried out to improve the cultivation method to aid the stable production of perilla by developing a suitable inter-cropping system with sesame in the central region as well as to report a suitable planting time. The test results are summarized as follows. As the planting time of perilla in the inter-cropping system with sesame was delayed, the number of clusters and capsules decreased. The perilla yields in this system showed significant differences compared to that with the previous crops (sesame varieties) and planting period. The yield of perilla was significantly lower in the characteristic-Type B variety than in the characteristic-Type A variety and decreased significantly as the planting time was delayed. With regards to the quality characteristics of perilla, such as crude protein, crude fat, etc., there were no differences between previous perilla crops and those inter-cropped with sesame. The perilla composition did not show any difference during the planting period; however, with delay in the planting time, crude protein content increased but crude fat content decreased. Yield of perilla was 38% higher in a two-row (40 x 40 cm) system, compared to a single-row cultivation (110 x 20 cm) of perilla inter-cropped with sesame. These results suggest that the suitable method for inter-cropping perilla with sesame in the central region is to sow the characteristic-Type A variety in early May, and cultivate the perilla in two lines (40 x 40 cm) in mid-June. This was judged to be the best cultivation method in the central region.
Obtaining a sufficient amount of healthy keratinocytes from a small tissue is difficult. However, ORS cells can be a good source of epithelium since they are easily obtainable and patients do not have to suffer from scar formation at donor sites. Accordingly, the current study modified the conventional primary culture technique to overcome the low propagation and easy aging of epithelial cells during culturing. In a conventional primary culture, the average yield of human ORS tells is 2.↑ $\times$ 10$^3$cells/follicle based on direct incubation in a trypsin (0.1%)/EDTA(0.02%) solution for 15 min at 37$^{\circ}C$, however, our modified method was able to obtain about 6.9 $\times$ 10$^3$cel1s/follicle using a two-step enzyme digestion method involving dispase (1.2 U/mL) and a trypsin (0.1%)/EDTA (0.02%) solution. Thus, the yield of primary cultured ORS cells could be increasd three times higher. Furthermore, a total of 2.0 $\times$ 10$^{7}$ cells was obtained in a serum-free medium. while a modified E-medium with mitomycin C-treated feeder tells produced a total of 6.3 $\times$ 10$^{7}$ Cel1s over 17 days When Starting With 7.5 $\times$ 10$^4$cells. Finally, We Confirmed the effectiveness of our ORS tell isolation method by presenting their ability for reconstructing the bioartificial skin epithelium in vitro

Although the chemical, physical, and nutritional properties of bovine milk have been extensively studied, only a few studies have attempted to characterize milk-synthesizing genes using RNA-seq data. RNA-seq data was collected from 21 Holstein samples, along with group information about milk production ability; milk yield; and protein, fat, and solid contents. Meta-analysis was employed in order to generally characterize genes related to milk production. In addition, we attempted to investigate the relationship between milk related traits, parity, and lactation period. We observed that milk fat is highly correlated with lactation period; this result indicates that this effect should be considered in the model in order to accurately detect milk production related genes. By employing our developed model, 271 genes were significantly (false discovery rate [FDR] adjusted p-value<0.1) detected as milk production related differentially expressed genes. Of these genes, five (albumin, nitric oxide synthase 3, RNA-binding region (RNP1, RRM) containing 3, secreted and transmembrane 1, and serine palmitoyltransferase, small subunit B) were technically validated using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) in order to check the accuracy of RNA-seq analysis. Finally, 83 gene ontology biological processes including several blood vessel and mammary gland development related terms, were significantly detected using DAVID gene-set enrichment analysis. From these results, we observed that detected milk production related genes are highly enriched in the circulation system process and mammary gland related biological functions. In addition, we observed that detected genes including caveolin 1, mammary serum amyloid A3.2, lingual antimicrobial peptide, cathelicidin 4 (CATHL4), cathelicidin 6 (CATHL6) have been reported in other species as milk production related gene. For this reason, we concluded that our detected 271 genes would be strong candidates for determining milk production.
1) For the purpose of preparation of food and fodder yeasts from nonedible seaweed, two suitable Candida yeasts have been isolated from seaweed compost. 2) They had the ability of fermenting galactose, sucrose and glucose, and could not ferment maltose and mannit, but could assimilate mannit. 3) NaCl concentration from 1 to 2% had no remarkable effect on growth of yeast and the optimum pH was $4{\sim}5$. 4) In the acid hydrolyzate of brown seaweed (Ecklonia cava Kjellman, Sargassum fulvellum AGARDH) an amorphous deposit was produced during storage after neutralization of media and its removal always delayed yeast growth, but addition of $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ and $NaH_2PO_4$ to media could increase the assimilation of reducing sugar and yeast yield. 5) $Co^{60}$ gamma ray irradiation (dose rate : 1 Mrad/hr, BNL shipboard irradiator) of seaweed had not so much effect on the hydrolysis of carbohydrates and nitrogen compounds in seaweed but could increase the yeast production from seaweed hydrolyzate. 6) The yeast yield was $7{\sim}8$ g of dry yeast per 100 g of seaweed by cultivation with jar fermentor.
This study was carried out to improve an artificial culture techniques and antioxidative activity of the crude extract isolated from sclerotia of Poria cocos(Fr.) Wolf. In the test of different spawns and inoculation method, the sclerotia formation, number of sclerotia and production yield were excellent in the both sides inoculation method of log spawn, whereas the both side inoculation method of sawdust spawn was poor in sclerotia formation and yield. The optimal spawn and inoculation method for the quality and productivity of P. cocos was in the order of log spawn (both sides inoculation > log spawn(cutting section inoculation) > sclerotia (both sides inoculation) > sawdust spawn (both sides inoculation). The physiological activity substance, crude extract content of P. cocos NIAST 13007 was about 83%. As the concentration of crude extracts increased, the relative viscosity tended to be increased. However, as the concentration of sodium chloride increased, the relative viscosity did not affected. In antioxidative activities, electron donating ability (EDA) of P. cocos was about 10% of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). Thiobarbituric acid (TBA) value was similar to that of the vitamin C, however the peroxide value (POV) was lower than those of BHT and vitamin C.

N-acyl taurates are known as environmental-friendly and non-irritating to skin. In this study, the physicochemical properties of N-acyl taurates, which are amide-type anionic surfactants, were measured and also compared with sulfate-type anionic surfactants that show low biodegradability and are highly irritating to skin. The possibility of replacing the currently existing sulfate-type surfactants by N-acyl taurates was examined. Based on the experimental results, shampoos were formulated with these anionic surfactants and their stability and properties were measured. The possibility of application of amide-type surfactants to personal care cleaner was evaluated. Experimental results show that N-acyl taurates have various favorable aspects in making personal care cleanser: high viscosity, low surface tension, and low CMC values. These properties of N-acyl taurates generate nano-scale particles in emulsion, which is stable due to its high viscosity. This emulsion also has good cleaning ability with small amount of usage due to easy penetration into contaminants. Shampoo with N-methyl oleyl taurate showed high yield point and constant viscosity, and formed stable emulsion with nano- scale uniform particles. These results suggest that N-acyl taurates play an important role in making stable Interior structure in shampoo, and which improves the storage property.
A new silkworm variety "Buhungjam" for autumn rearing season is $F_1$ hybrid between Jam149, a japanese race bred from introduction breeding and Jam150, a chinese race from introduction breeding. Jam149, japanese parent of the "Buhungjam" showed high GCA in pupation percentage, cocoon shell percentage and filament length and Jam15, chinese parent showed high GCA in cocoon shell percentage and cocoon filament length. In the local adaptability test performed at 8 local areas in spring of 2003, Buhungjam records 7% higher in cocoon yield and 8% in raw silk yield than the check variety, Daesungjam.

This experiment was conducted to investigate planting depth, which applied the basic data for planting growth ability and mechanical planting of oriental melon. 'Gumssaragi-eunchun' variety was approach grafting to 'Shintozoa' and seedling was growing during 45 days in the 9cm pot and then planted on Jan. 16. The comparison of planting plots was carried out for four experimental plots, which were separated into 0cm, 4.5cm, 9cm, standard cultivation, and 12cm planting depth in soil. In the tunnel of vinyl house, the lowest and the highest temperature was $9.3^{\circ}C\;and\;41.2^{\circ}C$, respectively, and humidity was $59\~99\%$ during Jan. 18 and 19. The faster graft-take rate after planting was the deeper planting depth. The growth of 40 days after planting was not significant in each planting plot, except 0cm experimental plot. Fruit weight was the heaviest in 4.5cm planting depth of experimental plot but sugar content and flesh thickness were not significant in each planting depth. The more depth in planting meant the more increase in fermented fruit rate and decrease in marketable fruit rate. Marketable yield was 2,361kg per l0a in 9cm planting plot, which was $2\%\;and\;1\%$ lower than in 0cm and 4.5cm, respectively, and $11\%$ greater than in 12cm planting plot.
The experiment was carried out to study the influence of planting space and fertilizer application levels on some agronomic characters and yield in newly released semi-dwarf soybeans, Paldalbong and Dankyungkong. The number of branches per plant was not reduced by planting space from 60${\times}$10cm 30${\times}$15cm. These Semi-dwarf soybeans had good adaptability on high planting density. The number of pods per node on the main stem was different according to the planting space in Dankyungkong, but it was similar in Paldalkong except planting space 20${\times}$10cm. Regardless of planting densities and varieties, the number of grains per pod on upper node of the main stem was large. Coefficient of variation of pods and grains per node in the middle part of the main stem was small. The number of grains per plant was decreased in high planting density compared to low planting density, but the number of harvested plant per unit area was increased. Optimum planting space was 25${\times}$10cm in both varieties. The ability of nodulation was bigger in Dankyungkong than in Paldalkong.
