A study on the vulnerability of field water supply using public groundwater wells as irrigation in drought-vulnerable areas with a focus on the Dangjin-si, Yesan-gun, Cheongyang-gun, and Goesan-gun regions in South Korea

  • The severe effects of climate change, such as global warming and the El Niño phenomenon, have become more prevalent. In recent years, natural disasters such as drought, heavy rain, and typhoons have taken place, resulting in noticeable damage. Korea is affected by droughts that cause damage to rice fields and crops. Societal interest in droughts is growing, and measures are urgently needed to address their impacts. As the demand for high-quality agricultural products expands, farmers have become more interested in water management, and the demand for field irrigation is increasing. Therefore, we investigated water demand in the irrigation of drought-vulnerable crops. Specifically, we determined the water requirements for crops including cabbage, red pepper, apple, and bean in four regions by calculating the consumptive water use (evapotranspiration), effective rainfall, and irrigation capacity. The total consumptive water use (crop evapotranspiration) estimates for Dangjin-si (cabbage), Yesan-gun (apple), Cheongyang-gun (pepper) in Chungnam, and Goesan-gun (bean) in Chungbuk were 33.5, 206.4, 86.1, and 204.5 mm, respectively. The volumes of groundwater available in the four regions were determined to be the following: Dangjin-si, 4,968,000 m3; Yesan-gun, 4,300,000 m3; Cheongyang-gun, 1,114,000 m3, and Goesan-gun, 3,794,000 m3. The annual amounts available for the representative crops, compared to the amount of evapotranspiration, were 313.9% in Dangjin-si, 29.5% in Yesan-gun, 56.1% in Cheongyang-gun, and 20.1% in Goesan-gun.

Plan of Sapti Community Garden-Park by Design Charrette

  • Yesan-gun was selected to receive a "Village Community Garden Project" in 2018 to foster a sense of community and improve the urban landscape by working with neighbors to create a happy living space for residents. Yesan-gun selected Sapti Park, located in Yesan-eup, as the project site. The project was carried out through the design charrette method (an intense period of collaborative creativity) to allow residents to propose and design park concepts themselves for the community garden construction project to ensure that that the park facilities would provide something for everyone to enjoy. This study followed the actual design project that actively introduced the design charrette in planning the community garden, describing the entire design process from planning to construction and revealing how the opinions of residents were projected onto the design drawings. The purpose of the project was to advance user-participation design methods by reviewing the progress of the design charrette process and to examine how storytelling, the act of conveying ideas through a fun and persuasive story, transformed the plans for the community garden.

충남 예산군 신암면 일대 과수원의 과일과 꽃들로부터 효모의 분리 및 분포 특성 (Isolation and Diversity of Yeasts from Fruits and Flowers of Orchard in Sinam-myeon of Yesan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea)

  • 충청남도 예산군 신암면 일대 과수원들의 과일과 꽃에서 효모들을 분리한 후 이들의 26S rDNA의 D1/D2 부위의 염기서열을 결정한 다음 NCBI의 BLAST 데이터베이스에 등록되어 있는 효모들과의 분자생물학적 유연관계를 비교, 분석하여 동정하였다. 2013년 4월부터 10월 사이의 과일 19점으로부터 모두 25종의 효모들을 48균주 분리하였고 Pichia kluyveri, Hanseniaspora uvarum, Rhodotorula mucilaginosa, Torulaspora delbrueckii 등 4종의 효모 등이 많이 분포하고 있었다. 과수원 주위의 꽃 39점에서 48종의 효모 등을 108균주 분리하였고 이 중 Microstroma juglandis와 Pseudozyma aphidis가 가장 많이 분리되었다.

밭관개 시설물의 용수공급에 대한 취약성 평가 - 당진시, 예산군, 청양군을 대상으로 - (Vulnerability Evaluation for Water Supply of Irrigation Facilities: Focusing on Dangjin-si, Yesan-gun, Cheongyang-gun, South Korea)

  • This study evaluated the vulnerability of irrigation water supplied to the crops. The target areas were selected as Dangjin-si, Yesan-gun, and Cheongyang-gun. The survey items of the climate exposure were annual precipitation and rainless days. The sensitivity survey items were cultivation area, groundwater level, evapotranspiration and groundwater consumption. The survey items of the adaptability were Number of groundwater well and Water supply ratio. The survey methods for these items were investigated in a variety of ways, including "National Climate Data Service System", "Korean Statistical Information Service", "National ground water monitoring network in korea annual report" and "Chungcheongnam-do Statistical Yearbook", "HOMWRS". Vulnerability assessment results were rated within the range of 0~100 points. The first grade was rated 0-25, the second grade 26-50, the third grade 51-75, and the fourth grade 76-100. And the lower the score, the lower the vulnerability. As a result, Cheongyang-gun showed a high vulnerability of over 50 points, Dangjin-si showed a low vulnerability rating of 31.20 points and a Yesan-gun of 36.00 points.

농촌지역 가로특성이 가로 녹시율에 미치는 영향 - 예산군을 중심으로 - (The Impact of Street Characteristics on the Streetscape Greenness Index in Rural Area - Focused on Yesan-gun -)

  • 본 연구에서는 도시와는 특성이 다른 농촌의 공간적 범위를 대상으로 이용빈도가 높은 가로에서 주민들이 체감하는 녹시율을 분석하고, 가로특성을 조사하여 가로특성이 녹시율에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 충남 예산군을 대상으로 녹시율 분석을 위해 가로 유형을 분류한 후, 인공녹지, 자연녹지, 생산녹지를 포함한 가로 녹시율과 가로 내 가로수만을 대상으로 한 가로수 녹시율을 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과, 예산군의 가로 녹시율은 국도가 15.93%, 지방도는 26.14%, 군도는 28.28%, 면도는 24.72%, 리도는 40.70%, 농도는 32.78%, 도시계획도로는 18.36%로 분석되었고, 가로수 녹시율은 국도는 5.02%, 지방도는 9.10%, 군도는 8.55%, 면도는 4.51%, 리도는 6.92%, 농도는 2.56%, 도시계획도로는 9.39%로 분석되었다. 가로의 특성이 녹시율에 미치는 인자를 알아보고자 가로변 토지이용 형태, 차선의 형태, 가로수의 유·무, 보도의 유·무를 분석하여 녹시율에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 가로변 토지이용, 차선의 형태, 보도의 유·무가 가로 녹시율과 가로수 녹시율에 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었으며, 타 연구들과의 비교를 통해 예산군의 녹시율 개선이 필요함을 도출하였다.

일제하 예산군 시량리 청년들의 농촌개발운동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Youth's Rural Rehabilitation Movement in Shiryang-ri, Yesan under Japanese Rule)

  • The youth's rural rehabilitation movement started the crusade against illiteracy and poverty with all young educated elites including Whang Jongjin(a student of Yesan Public Agricultural High School) of the village, Shiryang-ri. Deoksan-myon. Yesan-gun. Among others, Patriot Youn(1908-1932) initiated the movement. The main projects of the agricultural extension were the Evening School(1926), Reading Club, the Woljin.Hoe(1929), Puheung.Won(1928), a Mutual Financing Association for Swine Farming, Sweet Potato Cultivation, Cooperative Planting, the Shuam.Sports Club and Consumer's Cooperative Society. The idea in Nongmindokbon (Famer's Text, 1927) is based on liberalism, equality, independence, a pioneer and cooperative spirit or realization of a physiocratical Utopia. Most references about Patriot Youn are concerned with his heroic deed in Shanghai, however the youth in Shinyang-Ri are typical agricultural extension workers or in other words, a forerunner of Saemaul Undong.

Economic analysis of irrigation facilities for securing water for field crops

  • Considering irrigation facilities are currently insufficient and drought vulnerability due to climate change is high, efficient measures are required to secure water supply for field crops. This study, therefore, calculated the water shortage to secure water for representative field crops. An economic analysis was further conducted by comparing the production income to the input cost for each method. Here, five distinct regions were selected to represent each crop-Cheongyang-gun for chili peppers, Yesan-gun for apples, Dangjin-si for cabbages, Seosan-si for garlic, and Goesan for beans. The regions with insufficient water supply were estimated by calculating the water requirements and the supplied water from public groundwater wells for each area. A comprehensive set of four scenarios was presented as a strategy to ensure water security and manage irrigation facilities. These scenarios comprised the maintenance of existing groundwater wells, the construction of new water storage tanks, the installation of additional groundwater wells, and the utilization of surface water. B/C (benefit/cost) analysis was conducted for each scenario. As a result, the construction of water storage tanks was selected as a facility and water management plan in Cheongyang-gun, Dangjin-si, and Seosan-si. The analysis additionally indicated the economic viability of installing surface water utilization facilities in Yesan-gun and developing water storage tanks and groundwater (aquifer) wells in Goesan-gun. The results of this study are considered to serve as foundation data that may be utilized in the selection of water management plans for drought-prone areas in the future.

원료 생약 추출물의 최적화를 위한 한국 5개 지역에서 채집된 대계 추출물들의 항우울 효과 비교 (Comparison of the Antidepressant Activity of Cirsii herbal Extracts Collected from 5 Different Regions of Korea Determining the Optimal Herbal Preparation)

  • Previously, we identified that Cirsium japonicum (CJ) extract posses antidepressant properties. In order to look for the optimal hebal preparation, CJ extracts collected from Koheung, Yesan, Cheju, Pyungchang and Pocheon were compared. The psychopharmacological activities of each extract were investigated using the open field test, the rota-rod test and the forced swimming test. Effect of each extract on $Cl^-$ influx in neuroblastoma cells were also identified. All of the extracts were orally administered at dosages of 50, 100, 200, 400 mg/kg of body weight. Supplementation of CJ did not significantly alter psychomotor behaviors such as movement, rearing frequency and total turn angle on the open field. Supplementation of CJ's extract from Pyungchang (100 mg/kg, p.o.), Cheju (200 and 400 mg/kg p.o.) and Yesan (100 and 200 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly decreased immobile duration and increased mobile duration in the forced swimming test. All of extracts have no influence on NE uptake in HEK-293 cells, but increased $Cl^-$ influx in neuroblastoma cell. The extract from Yesan demonstrated the most potent effect on $Cl^-$ influx. These results indicate that CJ's extracts from Pyungchang, Cheju and Yesan may alleviate depression, and the extract from Yesan may be the most effective preparation.

농촌 마을 공동체 유형에 따른 의식조사 - 충남 예산군을 대상으로 - (Analysis on Community Consciousness of Leaders and Members of Rural Village Community Organizations by types - Case Study on Yesan Gun -)

  • The purpose of this study is to conduct an analysis of rural village's community status and consciousness through a questionnaire survey of community leaders and members. Nine types of rural village communities were selected in Korea through a pre-survey of amenity resources data from the Rural Development Administration. Survey items that could determine characteristics of rural village communities were derived from a literature survey of rural village community systems. A questionnaire survey was conducted for 12 Eup-Myeon in Yesan Gun and responses were gathered from 66 community leaders and 1,222 community members. The results derived from the data collected from the community leaders show that 50% percent of rural village communities have been operating for over 25 years, and that community works such as group purchases are carried out based on emotional sympathies between residents. The results derived from the data collected from community members show that on average, community activities are carried out at places that are between 30 and 60 minutes away. Most members are satisfied with regard to the status of their rural village community. A correlation analysis showed that the rural village community satisfaction depended on travel time, community fee, and activity time.

교란지 복구를 위한 표토의 매토종자 발아특성 - 예산군의 나지와 묵밭 토양- (Seed Germination of Surface Soil for Restoration of Disturbance Place - Bare Land and abandoned Field, Yesan-gun, Korea -)

  • To offer the basic data of vegetation restoration by buried seed of soil, this research was conducted at bare land and abandoned field in Yesan-gun. Germination plants of buried seed were consisted of 40 taxa (37 species, 3 varieties) in bare land, and 41 taxa (37 species, 4 varieties) in abandoned field. Classification of germination plants by family was the most in Gramineae, and emergent frequency of plots was the highest of Digitaria ciliaris. The soil depth of the most plants appearance was 2~5cm in bare land and 5~10cm in abandoned field, and the soil depth of the most population appearance was 0~2cm both in bare land and in abandoned field. Population number of buried seed germination was decreased according to soil depth. Crepidiastrum sonchifolium was a plant that population number of buried seed germination is the most. Similarity index was 0.33 in aerial part plants and buried seed plants, and 0.55 in bare land and abandoned field.
