A Study on Yangsaeng for Health Promotion of Aged Women in Rural Area (일 농촌 여성노인의 건강증진을 위한 양생연구)

  • Purpose: Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the yangsaeng level in a health management way of an aged women in rural area, and to offer basic material for the development of community's public health service. Methods: The subjects were 144 aged women who participated voluntarily in the questionnaire. The data were collected from January to February, 2008 with a self-administered questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS 13.0 win program for finding frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, ANOVA and Tukey. Results: The average age of workers was 72. Total yangsaeng level was $3.08{\pm}.33$, highest yangsaeng factor was Activity & Rest Yangsaeng of $3.55{\pm}.46$ and lowest yangsaeng factor was Season Yangsaeng of $2.43{\pm}.75$. The total Yangsaeng level was the significant difference in monthly incomes(F=4.046, p=.047). Conclusion: Considering the results above, the yangsaeng level of aged women is affected by the age, education level, a monthly income etc. Therefore, for health promotion plan of aged women, consider that their age, educational level, economic level ect, and systematic education for promotion of health is necessary.

Effects of Self Care and Depression on the Yangsaeng of Diabetes Mellitus Patients (당뇨병 환자의 자가관리, 우울 양상이 양생에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate self care, depression, and Yangsaeng and to confirm the factors related to Yangsaeng of diabetes mellitus patients. The survey was conducted on 116 subjects who consented to Institutional Review Board for diabetes mellitus patients in the area and data were collected by self-report questionnaire. The questionnaires consisted of self care, depression, and Yangsaeng. Date analysis was done by SPSS 22.0 with T-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Yangsaeng was significantly related to the educational level, partner, income, perceived health status, depression, and admission for diabetes mellitus. Yangsaeng and self care showed positive correlation, on the other hand Yangsaeng and depression showed negative correlation. Yangsaeng was found to be related to education level, self care, and depression through the multiple regression. In conclusion, the Yangsaeng score increased with improving of blood glucose level and depression. Based on these results, we considered various characteristics such as patient's age and illness characteristics, therefore it is necessary to develop a method to measure Yangsaeng.

QOL-BREF and Yangsaeng in Korean Adult (한국 성인의 삶의 질과 양생(養生)과의 관련성)

  • Purpose: Yangsaeng is a traditional health care regimen that incorporates specific principles and methods to promote health and prevent illness, with the aim of improving the health and longevity of life. The present study assessed Yangsaeng and quality of life (QOL-BREF) in Korea. Methods: Data from 346 adults and elderly Koreans was collected by using a self-reported questionnaire. Analysis of the data included descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, t-test, ANOVA and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$. Results: Statistically significant differences in QOL-BREF were evident according to the age, job, religion, education level, economic status and positive thinking. Statistically significant differences were evident in Yangsaeng according to religion, education, economic status and positive thinking. Total QOL-BREF positively related to total Yangsaeng. Morality Yangsaeng, exercise Yangsaeng and sleep Yangsaeng were positively related to all QOL-BREF sub-domains. Conclusions: The Yangsaeng oriental health care regimen can improve QOL, and should be recommended as a means of health promotion and QOL in the Korean culture.

A Study on Daily Living Abilities, Self-efficacy and Yangsaeng Behavior in Elderly Men (Yangsaeng; 養生 traditional oriental health promotion) (남성노인의 일상생활 수행능력과 자기효능감 및 양생행위)

  • Purpose: This study was carried out to investigate relations among daily livingabilities, self-efficacy, and Yangsaegn behavior, and influencing factors on Yangsaeng behavior among elderly men. Methods: Data were collected from 497 male elders in the D metropolitan city. Research tools included ADL, IADL, and the scale for self-efficacy and Yangsaeng behavior. The data were analyzed using frequency analysis, average and standard deviation, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis with the SPSS/WIN 19.0 program. Results: The subjects' ADL score was 2.86, their IADL score of subjects 2.66 out of 3, and their self-efficacy score was 2.68 out of 4, and their Yangsaeng behavior score 3.46 out of 5. There were significant differences in Yangsaeng behavior among the subjects due to age, education level, monthly income, marital status, family structure, religion, health status, andperiodic health examination. There were significant positive correlations among ADL, IADL, self-efficacy, and Yangsaeng behavior. According to the research, influencing factors on Yangseng behavior in elderly men included self-efficacy, health status, ADL, education level, IADL, and family structure. Conclusion: Findings from this study can be used as basic data to develop Yangsaeng behavior programs for elderly men.

Relationship among Yangsaeng, Activities of Daily Living, and Physical Function in Korean Elders (노인의 양생과 신체기능과의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify relationships among Yangsaeng, activities of daily living (ADL), and physical activity in the elderly in Korea. Methods: A total of 257 subjects (ranged 60-88 yr of age) was recruited through convenient sampling. Data were collected with a self-reported questionnaire from March 2 through 25, 2009. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS/PC WIN 15.0. Results: The level of Yangsaeng was significantly different according to the level of health recognition (p<.05). The level of ADL was differed significantly according to age, successful aging, cohabitation, and health recognition. Physical activity was also significantly different according to age, educational level, cohabitation, (r=.385; p<.05) and health cognition (p<.05). The level of Yangsaeng was significantly correlated with ADL (r=.448) and physical activity (r=.385; p<.05). Conclusions: These findings help in understanding the health status of community-dwelling elders and suggest that promoting the Yangsaeng can be an effective intervention as a health promotion program for the elderly in Korea.

Relationship of Stress, Depression and Yangsaeng(養生) in Korean College Women (여대생의 스트레스, 우울과 양생 간의 관계)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of stress, depression and Yangsaeng in Korea. Yangsaeng is a traditional health care regimen for the promotion of health and prevention of illness by means of specific principles and methods, whose purpose was to improve longevity and healthy life. Method: The subjects of this study were 523 college women in Korea. Data were collected by using a self-reported questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, t-test, ANOVA and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$. Results: There was statistically significant difference in stress and depression according to drinking and positive thinking. There was statistically significant difference in Yangsaeng according to grade, drinking, exercise and positive thinking. Stress was positively related depression. Stress and depression was negatively related Yangsaeng. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that Yangsaeng as oriental health care regimen could lower level of stress and depression. Therefore, Yangsaeng could be recommended a way of mental health promotion in Korean culture.

The Relationship between Happiness and Yangsaeng among University Students in the Republic of Korea (대학생의 행복정도와 양생실천정도와의 관련성)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between happiness and Yangsaeng in university students of the Republic of Korea. Yangsaeng is a traditional health care regimen that incorporates specific principles and methods with the purpose of improving the health and longevity of life. Methods: The subjects of this study were 358 university students in Korea. Data were collected by using a self-reported questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, hierarchial multiple regression, and Cronbach's alpha. Results: Practicing Yangsaeng yielded a statistically significant difference depending on the subject's satisfaction with his/her major, monthly household income, and smoking tendencies. In comparison, the statistical degree of happiness depended on the subject's satisfaction with the his/her major, monthly household income, and boyfriend or girlfriend situations. Yangsaeng was positively correlated with happiness (r=.66, p<.001). Hierarchial multiple regression showed that the Yangsaeng explained 43% of happiness, and if major satisfaction, monthly household income, and boyfriend or girlfriend situations were also considered, this model explained 56% of happiness. Conclusion: The Yangsaeng oriental health care regimen could produce a higher happiness level. Therefore, Yangsaeng could be recommended as a useful means of promoting health and happiness.

Factors Influencing Yangsaeng in Elders (Yangsaeng; Traditional Oriental Health Promotion) (노인의 양생(養生)행위에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: The study was done to identify factors influencing Yangsaeng in elders. Methods: Data were collected by questionnaires from 907 elders in D metropolitan city. Measures were Yangsaeng, perceived health status, self-efficacy, and self esteem. Data were analyzed using frequencies, means and standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 13.0 version. Results: The mean score for Yangsaeng the participants was 3.56, out of a possible 5. There were significant differences in Yangsaeng according to age, education level, monthly income, marital status, family structure, and periodic health examination. Yangsaeng correlated positively with perceived health status, self-efficacy and self-esteem. According to the research, factors influencing Yangseng in elders were self-esteem, perceived health status, self-efficacy, family structure, and marital status. Conclusion: The positive correlation between Yangsaeng and health promotion behavior and perceived health status, self-efficacy, and self-esteem identified in this study can have an impact on strategies to improve the health of Korean elders. Therefore, the results can be used as a reference for future studies.

Relationship Between Parenting Stress, Depression, and Yangsaeng in Mothers with Cerebral Palsy Children (뇌성마비아 어머니의 양육 스트레스, 우울 및 양생과의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study examines parenting stress, depression, and Yangsaeng in mothers with cerebral palsy children, providing information that may be helpful in the development of a health intervention program that may improve the lives of the mothers. Methods: The subjects of this study were 124 mothers with cerebral palsy children; the subjects were selected by convenience sampling. The collected data were processed by using the SPSS program and analyzed by using descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation. Results: Parenting stress in mothers with cerebral palsy children was $91.84\pm20.75$, depression was $20.54\pm11.30$, and Yangsaeng was $92.77\pm15.79$ There was a positive relationship between parenting stress and depression. Parenting stress and depression were negatively related with Yangsaeng. Conclusions: The results suggest that Yangsaeng as an oriental health care regimen can lower the level of parenting stress and depression. In this regard, to promote a healthier life for mothers with cerebral palsy children, it would be beneficial to develop a nursing intervention program that incorporates the use of Yangsaeng.

Traditional Health Behavior(Yangseng) and Depression Level in the Rural People (농촌지역 주민의 우울 수준과 양생실천 정도)

  • Objectives : Yangseng is a traditional healthcare regimen on the promotion of health and prevention of illnesses by means of specific principles and methods for the purpose of living a long and healthy life. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of depression level and Yangseng in rural residents for the promotion of health and prevention of illness. Methods: The subjects of this study were 1205 rural residents who live in Wanju. Cheonbuk. Korea. Beck depression inventory and the Yangseng were assessed by survey personnels. Results: The total score of Yangsaeng was $102.70{\pm}14.03$, and the BDI score was $2.80{\pm}4.96$. Mild depression group was 5.03%. depression and severe depression group was 3.86%. Normal group in depression showed higher Yangsaeng score. and the high Yangsaeng score group showed lower BDI score. Conclusions : Above results suggest that there are signigicant relations between depression and Yangsaeng. These results could be used for planning the public healthcare programs and Yangseng promoting program based on Korean traditional medicine.
