  • Multi-slacked HTS tapes are needed to conduct large current in the power application of superconducting machine. This paper deals with the transport current loss of multi-stacked YBCO coated conductor. YBCO coated conductor that was used in this experiment has two Cu layers above and below of YBCO layer for stabilization. Transport losses of four different stacks, single, 2 stack, 3 stack and 4 stack, were measured. Measured results were compared analytic equation suggested by Norris.

  • Multi-stacked HTS tapes are needed to conduct large current in the power application. In this paper magnetization losses of the multi-stacked YBCO coated conductor and the BSCCO tape have been measured and compared. Magnetization losses of single tape, 2-stacked, 3-stacked and 4-stacked HTS tapes have been presented in this paper. Multi-stacked tapes have been fabricated using face-to-face type stacking method. Measurements of magnetization loss were performed under various stacked of external magnetic field to consider the anisotropic characteristics of HTS tapes. Test results show that loss density per unit volume decreased for both YBCO coated conductors and BSCCO tapes when the stacking number of tapes is increased. As the external magnetic field decreased, the ratio of decrement has risen because the full penetration magnetic field(Bp) of the multi-stacked tape is larger than that of the single tape.

  • The relations between tensile stresses and critical current densities (J$_c$) of coated conductors were measured. Around 320 MPa of tensile stress, the critical current densities of coated conductor fabricated on pure Ni tape were reduced to zero at 77K, where J$_c$ for zero stress was order of 10$^5$A/cm. The critical tensile stress was much enhanced for the coated conductors fabricated on NiCr alloy tapes. However fabrication conditions for the growth on such alloys are much different from those on the pure Ni and it was not easy to get good textures and large critical currents. The detailed fabrication methods on those alloys will be presented.

  • AC loss is main issue for power applications using YBCO coated conductor. The striated YBCO CC(Coated Conductor) has been proposed by several researchers to decrease a magnetization loss. A continuously transposed coated conductor (CTCC), suggested by our research group before, could be very useful for lower magnetization loss of large current power applications. In this paper, an AC loss reduction effect by the stack, striation and transposition of YBCO CCs under a time varying external magnetic field. To estimate the reduction effects for perpendicular magnetization loss, several CTCC samples were prepared and tested. Also, we measured angular dependency of magnetization losses of various CTCC samples.

  • We have performed measurements of the local magnetic field distribution of YBCO coated conductors using Low-temperature Scanning Hall Probe Microscopy (LT-SHPM). Distribution of stray magnetic field of various types of YBCO coated conductors in the superconducting state was measured in presence of external magnetic fields. We analyzed one dimensional and two dimensional local current distribution using inversion technique from the magnetic field distribution.

  • NiO buffer layers were deposited on texture Ni tapes fur YBCO coated conductors by MOCVD(metal organic chemical vapor deposition) method, using a single solution source. Variables were deposition temperature and flow rate of $0_2$carrier gas. At higher temperatures, The NiO(111) texture was well developed, but the NiO(200) texture was developed at low temperatures. The best result was obtained at the deposition temperature of$ 470^{\circ}C$ and the gas flow rate of 200 sccm. FWHM value of $\omega$-scan fur NiO(200) of the film and $\Phi$-scan for NiO(111) of the film was $4.2^{\circ}$ and $7^{\circ}$, respectively.
