Effect of M2O3 on the Sinterbility and Electrical Conductivity of ZrO2(Y2O3) System(III) : Ceramics of the ZrO2-Y2O3-Ln2O3 System (ZrO2(Y2O3)계 세라믹스의 소결성과 전기전도도에 대한 M2O3의 영향(III) : ZrO2-Y2O3-Ln2O3계 세라믹스)

  • Yttria-stabilized zirconia with erbia-lanthana were investigated with respect to the amount of Ln2O3 (Ln; Er, La) addition in the range of 0.5∼5 mol% to the base composition of 8 mol% yttriazirconia. Following analysis and measurement were adopted for the characterization of synthesizes of solid electrolyte; phase transformation, lattice parameter, crystallite size, relative density, chemical composition and SEM/EDS. Electrical conductivity by two-probe method versus temperature from 350$^{\circ}C$ to 800$^{\circ}C$ and frequency in the range of 5Hz∼13MHz by complex impedance method was also conducted together with the determination of oxygen ion transference number by EMF method for the evaluation of their electrical properties. The results were as followsing; Electrical conductivity were decreased with increase in Ln2O3 content, but their activation energies increased. In the case of La2O3 addition, espicially, its electrical conductivity was decreased owing to the segregation of second phases at the grain-boundary. Grain-boundary conductivity of the specimen contained 0.5 mol% Er2O3 exhibited a maximum conductivity among thecompositions experimented. However, their bulk conductivities decreased in both case. Oxygen ion transference number was also reduced with decrease in oxygen partial pressure. For example, in the case of Er2O3 addition it retained value in the range of 0.97∼0.94 abvove 4.74${\times}$10-2in oxygen partial pressure. With the increase in the quantities of the evaporation of additive components, the crystallite size of stabilized zirconia decreased, and their relative density also reduced owing to the formation of porosity in their matrices. In the case of La2O3 the sinterbility was improved in the limited amount of addition up to 0.5 mol%, in the same range of addition the strength of sintered bodies were improved perhaps owing to the precipitation of metastable tetragonal phase in the fully stabilized zirconia.

  • 수열처리법으로 nano-sized $CeO_2$ 입자를 $Al_3O_3$ 입자의 표면에 균일하게 코팅하여 $AL_2O_3/O_2$ composite 연마 입자를 제조하었다. 제조된 $Al_2O_3\CeO_2$ composite 입자의 뭍성을 TEM, XRD, zeta potential analyzer 및 particle size analyzer로 측징하였다. $Al_2O_3/CeO_2$ composite 입자와 구성된 슬러리와 비교 시료로서 $Al_2O_3$$CeO_2$ 입자를 혼합한 슬러리를 사용하여 thermal oxide film에 대한 연마특성을 평가하였다. 연마슬러리에 포함된 $A1_2O_3/CeO_2$ composite 입자와 $Al_2O_3$$CeO_2$ 혼합입자에서 나노 크기의 세리아 입자가 sub-micron 크기의 알루미나 입자의 표면에 균일하게 코팅되므로서 $Al_2O_3$ 단일 성분의 슬러리에 비해 removal rate(RR)는 106 nm/min, WIWNU는 $8\sim9%$, roughness는 $2.6{\AA}$의 향상된 연마 특성을 나타내었다. 알루미나 입자의 불규칙한 형상 때문에 $Al_2O3/CeO_2$ composite 슬러리와 $Al_2O_3$$CeO_2$ 혼합슬러리의 연마 특성이 비슷한 수준을 나타내었다.

  • Wear and Friction characteristics of plasma-sprayed Cr$_2$O$_3$ coating and Cr$_2$O$_3$ coating included SiO$_2$ and TiO$_2$ against SiC ball have been investigated under different loads. Worn surfaces were observed by SEM and worn surfaces were analyzed by EDS. The Friction coefficient and the Wear resistance of Cr$_2$O$_3$-5SiO$_2$-3TiO$_2$coating was less than that of Cr$_2$O$_3$ coating. The main mechanisms were plastic deformation and brittle fracture. The film on surface were made by plastic deformation and compacted wear debris. This film protect wear of coating

  • Electrical switching phenomenon was observed in the Fe2O3-Bi2O3 system for the sintering temperature range of 700$^{\circ}$~85$0^{\circ}C$ for DC conductivity measurements of these sinterd materials in the ambient temperature range of 30$^{\circ}$~20$0^{\circ}C$ have shown that the conductivity increases with increasing the sitering temperature and ambient temperature. The formation of the current channel and the experimental evidence of the dependence of switching threshold voltage on the ambient temperature, strongly indicates that the main electrical switching mechanism of sintered Fe2O3-Bi2O3 is thermal effect.

  • The experimental FT-IR spectra and DTA curves of the $PbO-Bi_2O_3-B_2O_3-SiO_2$ glasses have been investigated. The composition ratio dependence of glass transition temperature showed that the structure of this glass system changes at 60 mol% $Bi_2O_3$. We have observed that the FT-IR spectra of the investigated samples with high bismuth content are dominated by bands associated to the structural units of the heaviest cation, $Bi^{3+}$ and the boron atoms in the treated samples are three and four coordinated even for very high $Bi_2O_3$ content. The low intensity of these non-bridging oxygen bands, for high PbO content glasses, can be attributed to the strong network-forming roles of PbO. The glasses absorption bands exhibited a greater change in intensities on crystallization.

  • The effects of $AI_{2}$$O_{3}$ and the ratio of $Na_2O/B_2O_3$ on the phase separation and optical properties of sodium borosilicate glass film fabricated by AFD(Aerosol Flame Deposition) were investigated. When AI,O, of 6wt% was added to $66SiO_2-27B_2O_3-7Na_2O$ the clear glass film without any crystallization was produced under air-quenching condition after consolidation. As the amount of $AI_{2}$$O_{3}$ increased from 1.5 to 6.0 wt% the refractive index linearly increased from 1.4610 to 1.4701, and the difference of TE and TM mode causing by residual stress in film increased gradually. However, the difference of TE and TM mode to reveal birefringence could be minimized by annealing below the glass transition temperature after consolidation and air quenching. On the other hand. as the ratio of $Na_2O/B_2O_3$ increased the refractive index and birefringence of glass film tended to increase, but the measurement of their values were not available at over the critical ratio of $Na_2O/B_2O_3$, because of the cloudiness due to crystallization. The phase separation was greatly accelerated with increasing the ratio of $Na_2O/B_2O_3$.

Sintering and Machanical Properties of Y2O3 Added Al2O3-TiC Composite (Y2O3가 첨가된 Al2O3-TiC복합 소결체의 치밀화와 기계적 성질)

  • The role of TiC and the effect of Y2O3 addition on the densification, microstructure and mechanical properties of Al2O3-TiC composite have been studied. The amount of Y2O3 has been varied from 0 to 2 wt.% while keeping the TiC content at 10, 20 or 30 wt.%. The powder compacts have been sintered at 1,75$0^{\circ}C$ for various times in 1 atm Ar atmosphere and hot isostatically pressed (HIPed) at 1,$600^{\circ}C$ for 0.5h under 1,500atm Ar. Considerable increase in sintered density(over 95%) has been achieved by adding 0.5 wt.% Y2O3 in specimens containing high TiC volume. More addition of Y2O3 does not affect the densification. With increasing the sintering time from 0.5 to 4h, slight increase in density results. The growth of Al2O3 grain has been enhanced by Y2O3 addition ; this tendency is reduced with increasing TiC content because of grain boundary dragging effect of TiC particles. The hardness of specimens increases considerably by an addition of 0.5wt.% Y2O3 owing to the density increase. Further addition of Y2O3 has no effect on hardness. Fracture toughness augments with TiC content by crack deflection around the particles. By adding 0.5wt.% Y2O3, all the specimens can be densified to isolated pore stage and thus can be HIPed to full densification and better mechanical property. In particular, the fracture toughness of Al2O3-30 TiC specimen increases about 50% by HIPing. Fully dense Al2O3-30 TiC with good mechanical properties can be prepared by normal Sintering/HIPing process.

  • Mixtures Of AUC-UO$_2$and Gd$_2$O$_3$ Powders doped With Cr$_2$O$_3$ or Cr$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$ were Pressed and sintered at 1730 t in hydrogen gas witk various water-vapor contents. The density of UO$_2$- 6wt% Gd$_2$O$_3$ pellets can be increased from 91% TD to 94.5% TD in 1 vol% $H_2O$-H$_2$ gases by the addition of 0.02wt% Cr$_2$O$_3$-(0.01~0.04) wt% SiO$_2$. The magnitude of density increase is much larger in (1~3 vol%) $H_2O$-H$_2$ gases than in 0.05 vol% $H_2O$-H$_2$ gas. The densification of U0$_2$- Gd$_2$O$_3$ compact is significantly delayed in the temperature range between 1300 and 1500 t , but that of compacts with Cr$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$ is not. The role of Cr$_2$O$_3$ and SiO$_2$ in densification is discussed.

  • The $YBa_2Cu_{3-y}Ag_yO_{7-x}$ high-temperature superconductors were prepared by pyrophoric synthetic method from $Y_2O_3$, $BaCO_3$, CuO, and $AgNO_3$ powders. When we were partially substituted Ag for Cu in $YBa_3Cu_3O_{7-x}$, the superconducting properties of $YBa_2Cu_{3-y}Ag_yO_{7-x}$ were investigated with X-ray diffractometer, resisitivity measuring equipment, SEM, and Vickers Hardness. The Tc,zero of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ was 91K, the density was $5.2g/cm^3$, and the hardness was $590kg/mm^2$. When Ag was substituted below y=0.15, electrical property of $YBa_2Cu_{3-y}Ag_yO_{7-x}$ did not change but microstructure, density, and hardness were enhanced.

  • Microstructure and electrical properties of ZnO-doped (0-5 mol%) 0.05 Pb(Mn1/3Sb2/3)O3-0.95 PZT ceramics were investigated. Sintering temperature was decreased to 100$0^{\circ}C$ due to eutetic reaction between PbO and ZnO. Grain-size increased up to adding 1mol% ZnO and then decreased. Compositions of grain and grain-boundary were investigated by WDS. Lattice parameter was decreased with ZnO addition. Density increased with ZnO addition and reached to the maximum of 7.84(g/cm2) at 2 mol% ZnO. The effect of ZnO on electrical properties of PMS-PZT was investigated. At 3mol% ZnO addition electromechanical coupling factor(kp) was about 50% and relative dielectric constant($\varepsilon$33/$\varepsilon$0) was 997 Mechanical quality factor(Qm) decreased with ZnO addition. Lattice parameters and tetragonality(c/a) were measured to investigate relationship between the electric properties and substitution of Zn2+. At 3 mol% ZnO tetragonality was maximiged at c/a=1.0035 Curie temperature (Tc) decreased slightly with ZnO addition.
