Because stellerite, belonging to the zeolite group, is much less common mineral than any other minerals in Korea, little mineralogical study has been done so far. Stellerite occurs on open surfaces of fractured zones in the Yucheon Granite associated with flowery tourmaline, Chongdo, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Stellerite with $3{\sim}4\;mm$ length and $1{\sim}2\;mm$ width is characterized by an equigranular and euhedral form. Flat and elongated columnar crystals show well developed (010) face. Stellerite shows an intensive alteration process, possibly due to weathering or devitrification, as evidenced by microtextural analysis of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Water loss occurs at $161^{\circ}C$ while dehydroxylation occurs at $467^{\circ}C$ causing decomposition of the structure afterward. From its textural observation, it is concluded that stellerite formed rapidly at small undercooling, precipitated from residual melt during the late stage with relatively constant chemistry.

The conditions are obtained for the decomposition of solid radioactive wastes, including ion exchange resin, zeolite, charcoal, and sludge from nuclear power plant. In the process of decomposing the radioactive wastes was used the microwave acid digestion method with mixed acid. The solution after acid digestion by the following method was colorless and transparent. Each solution was analyzed with ICP-AES and AAS and the recovery yield for 5 different elements added into the simulated radioactive wastes were over $94{\%}$. The elemental analysis of destructive low and medium level radioactive wastes by the proposed microwave acid digestion conditions concerning the chemical characteristics of each radioactive waste are expected to be useful basic data for development of optimal glass formulation.
X-ray Fluorescence Spectrographic method has been applied for the rapid determination of main components, such as $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$, CaO, MgO and $K_2O$ in Silicate Minerals. In this method, Boric Acid was used as a binder after fusion with Lithium Tetraborate in the briquet-making process. The Lithium Flubride, Ammonium di-Hydrogen Phosphate and Ethylene Diamine d-Tartrate crystals were used with Scintillation counter and Gas Flow counter as the detectors. Several influences on this method were discussed, including the particle size of samples and reducing of the matrix effects by dilution with Boric Acid and addition of Lanthanum Oxide with the diluent. In order to test the reproducibility of this method described above, the determination of the same kind of samples were carried out repeatedly, and the results obtained were presented in the table. Calibration curves for each element were presented, and the application of the method was tested with International Rock Standard T-Ⅰ. All the results obtained by X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrographic method were compared with the results by conventional chemical method.

The objectives of this research were to investigate the effect of serpentine as a new soil conditioner for growth of turfgrass. To achieve the goal, pure sand or mixtures of sand and serpentine with various ratios were tested for soil physical properties and the growth effects of perennial ryegrass and zoysiagrass growth were compared. Major results of this research are summarized as follows; 1) Hydraulic conductivity of 10~30% serpentine mixtures were observed within the range of 1010~901mm/h which is good for USGA recommendation. Experimental results of pH and EC for various mixtures indicated that the 10% serpentine mixture was the most suitable for turfgrass growth. 2) Perennial ryegass treated with 10% serpentine mixture showed the highest visual quality(p<0.01) among all treatments. And serpentine treatment was more effective to improve visual quality of perennial ryegrass than that of zoysiagrass. The treatment of 10% serpentine had better visual qualities than that of 20% in both of zoysiagrass and perennial ryegrass. Treatment with the right amount of serpentine extends green period for one to two weeks during early winter in both zoysiagrass and perennial ryegrass. 3) In perennial ryegrass, the treatment of 10% serpentine resulted in an increase of total dry weight compare with those of zeolite or barley stone, and also dramatically promoted the dry weight by 15% compared with sand 100%(control). Total dry weight of zoysiagrass treated with 10% serpentine was 9% higher than that of san. These results indicated that serpentine can be a good soil conditioner for both zoysiagrass and perennial ryegrass when it is blended with sand within a range of 10 to 20% by volume.

An experimental study on the hydro-cracking of recycling oil obtained from refused plastics was performed for up-grading of its fuel characteristics. Major experimental parameters were reaction temperature ($300^{\circ}C{\sim}700^{\circ}C$) and presence of catalysts (Al-Si, activated carbon, zeolite). The effect of the experimental parameters on the liquid product characteristics such as flash point, kinetic viscosity, and solid content was investigated. The hydro-cracking reactions of the recycling oil at $300^{\circ}C{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ improved the oil characteristics of the liquid products. Activated carbon was revealed as a stable and active catalyst in the hydro-cracking reaction at a temperature range investigated.
Propylene epoxidation by $H_2O_2$ (30% aqueous) as oxidant was studied in a semi-batch reactor using TS-1 catalyst: Effects of reaction temperature, time, pressure, solvent, catalyst and $H_2O_2$ concentration on $H_2O_2$ conversion (limiting reagent) and product distribution were investigated. Potential inhibition by propylene oxide on the epoxidation rate was also examined. Ti-MCM-22 with MWW zeolytic structure was found to exhibit better performance than TS-1 with MFI structure, provide that a proper choice of solvent(acetonitrile) is made.
During the past decades much attention has been paid to the desulfurization of diesel oil which is important as a source for the fuel cells to prevent the sulfur poisoning of both diesel steam reforming catalyst and electrode of fuel cell. Although alternative desulfurization techniques have been investigated, desulfurization for ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) is still challenged. Therefore, this research focuses on the desulfurization of commercial ULSD for the application to molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC). Herein, the performances of several kinds of commercial adsorbents based on activated carbons, zeolites, and metal oxides for desulfurization of ULSD were screened. The results showed that metal oxides based materials can feasibly reduce sulfur concentration in ULSD to a level of 0.1 ppmw while activated carbons and zeolites did not reach this level at current conditions.

Interest has been increasing worldwide in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (F-T) as a method of producing synthetic liquid fuels from biomass. Hydroisomerization of $C_7-C_{15}$ paraffins applies to production of diesel fuel with high cetane number and improved cold flow properties, such as viscosity, pour point and freezing point. The commercial products such as fuel jet produced from F-T synthesis should have low freezing and pour points. In this study, our major aim is to develop a catalyst for hydroisomerization of synthesis-oil for bio-jet fuel. Effects of zeolites and platinum loading on hydroisomerization of dodecane were investigated as a model reaction in a batch reactor.

The objectives of this research were the reduction of membrane fouling and improvement of sludge properties by using synthesized H-ZSM-5 and NH4-ZSM-5 zeolites. These two nano zeolites were synthesized and added to the membrane bioreactor (MBR). Three similar MBRs with the same operational condition were used in order to evaluate their effect on the mentioned matters. The evaluated parameters were trans-membrane pressure (TMP), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), particle size distribution (PSD), soluble microbial product (SMP), extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and, excitation-emission matrix (EEM). The MBR0 was without any additional zeolite while 0.4 g/L of H-ZSM-5 and NH4-ZSM-5 were added to MBRHZSM-5 and MBRNH4ZSM-5, respectively. The COD removal of the MBR0, MBRH-ZSM-5 and MBRNH4-ZSM-5 were 87.5%, 93.3% and 94.6%, respectively. The TMP of the MBRH-ZSM-5 was 45% less than MBR0 whereas the reduction for MBRNH4-ZSM-5 was 65.5%. Also results showed that both H-ZSM-5 and NH4-ZSM-5 caused reduction in protein and polysaccharide related EPS but the NH4-ZSM-5 had better performance toward the elimination of organic compounds.

Bacterial infection is one of the most common and universal cause of disease spreading associated with medical and surgical environment. Antimicrobial function of plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC) will be useful for making hygienic environments. Here, we synthesized the PVC composite by the addition of inorganic bacteriocide containing silver, zinc and zeolite. And we investigated the growth inhibition rate for Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae which were analyzed in the presence of PVC composite with different doses of inorganic bacteriocide (1~15 wt%). Bacterial proliferation was significantly inhibited by 3 wt% of inorganic bacteriocide containing PVC composite. And we found the inhibition of bacterial biofilm formation by 5 wt% of inorganic bacteriocide containing PVC composite by the observation of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Our data suggested that the antimicrobial effect of inorganic bacteriocide was caused by disturbing the bacterial biofilm formation.
