  • X-ray diffraction method has been widely used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of a mixture of materials since every crystalline material gives a unique X-ray diffraction pattern independently of others, with the intensity of each pattern proportional to that material's concentration in a mixture. For determination of mixing ratios, extracting source spectra correctly is important and crucial. Based on the source spectra extracted, a regression model with non-negativity constraint is applied for determining mixing ratios. In some mixtures, however, X-ray diffraction spectrum has sharp and narrow peaks, which may result in partial negative source spectrum from independent component analysis. We propose several procedures of extracting non-negative source spectra and determining mixing ratios. The proposed method is validated with experimental data on powder mixtures.

  • The precipitation of ultra fine ammonium perchlorate(UFAP) crystals from the N-methyl pyrrolidone(NMP) solutions of ammonium perchlorate(AP) was studied. The characteristics of the precipitated crystals were investigated by means of scanning electron micrograph(SEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA). When chloroform, methylene chloride and toluene were the precipitants, the product crystals had a mean particle size less than 2$\mu\textrm{m}$. The crystallographical property and thermal decomposition behavior of the prepared UFAP were almost the same as those of the commercial AP.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine mineralogical properties of the soft clay that is distributed widely in Samsan area, Ulsan. XRD analysis were examined to find the quantities of the clay minerals. And XRF, SEM and EDX analysis were also examined to investigate the chemical compositions and the structures of the clay. The properties of the samples from 2 sites in Samsan area were that the minerals of the clay were illite, kaolinite, chlorite, smectite and etc.. The plenty of illite has 38 to 53% of content in whole study area. And kaolinite had 18 to 30%, chlorite had 15 to 25%, and smectite had 4 to 12% of content, respectively. The results of SEM observation showed that appearances of Ulsan clay were sheet, plannar or needle form. Ulsan clay included the salt crystal of cubic and the foraminifera, which were related with the content of organ.

  • The application of microwave technology to synthesis of polymer in solvent media has been shown by the synthesis of copper phthalocyanine (CUPc). The increase of synthetic yield-was demonstrated successfully in this study. A power variable microwave synthetic system has been developed with modifying cavity of domestic microwave oven and attaching microwave power controller. The properties of the specimen synthesized at various condition under the conventional thermal processing and microwave processing has been characterized by the means of chemical analysis, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and particle size analysis (PSA).

  • The calcination characteristics of the waste Corbicula Japonica and Ostrea virginjca shell were examined for the future use as desulfurization sorbent. The weight variation was measured according to thermal-decomposition using TGA and observed variation of the phase. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the sample were performed using XRD and the structural analysis, SEM. The results of TGA and XRD experiments showed that the almost all of the raw samples Corbicula Japonica and Ostrea virginjca were changed from calcite to lime by firing and calcination reaction. The result of SEM experiment showed that the plate type of the raw sample was changed to circle type, so the surface area ratio was increased. Above results suggested that waste Corbicula Japonica and Ostrea virginjca were usable in the viewpoint of the reuse of resource and the decrease of environmental pollution.

  • In this papers, in order to decreased the ZnO varistor breakdown voltage, additives the $TiO_2$ with ZnO varistors. The effects of addition $TiO_2$ with ZnO varistor are discussed. Observation of ZnO varistor microstructures are photospectroscopy and SEM, and variation of phase are XRD analysis. Experimental results, the more increased the $TiO_2$ contents the more decreased the mean grain size of ZnO. Also, results of XRD analysis, the more increased the $TiO_2$ contents the more increased the spinel structures.

  • Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires were prepared on Si substrates by a thermal evaporation method at different temperatures and $O_2$ pressure. Microstructural analysis of the obtained ZnO nanowires was performed by using transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Phase analysis was done using X-ray diffraction(XRD). As the deposition temperature and oxygen pressure were increased, the diameter and length of ZnO nanowires had a tendency to increase. Based on TEM and XRD analyses, the nanowires are single crystalline in nature and consist of a single phase. According to the measurements, the ZnO nanowires grown at 1100$^{\circ}C$, Ar 50 sccm, $O_2$ 10 sccm have good properties.

  • The effects of $Al_2O_3$ on the crystallization behavior of glass compositions in the $Na_2O$-CaO-$SiO_2$ system were investigated by differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effect of $Al_2O_3$ content on the mechanical properties, density, phase formation, and microstructures of $Na_2O$-CaO-$P_2O_5$-$SiO_2$ glass ceramics were studied. The thermal parameters of each glass were studied by DTA. The density of the glass ceramic samples was measured by Archimedes' method. It was found that the glass-ceramic containing 2.0 molar percent $Al_2O_3$ had desirable sintering behavior and reached an acceptable density. Phase investigation and micro-structural analysis were performed by XRD and SEM, respectively.

  • A novel pretreatment technique was applied to the conventional Pt/alumina catalyst to prepare for the highly efficient catalyst for the preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide in hydrogen-rich condition. Their performance was investigated by selective CO oxidation reaction. CO conversion with the oxygen-treated Pt/Alumina catalyst increased remarkably especially at the low temperature below $100^{\circ}C$. This result is promising for the normal operation of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) without CO poisoning of the anode catalyst. XRD analysis results showed that metallic Pt peaks were not observed for the oxygen-treated catalyst. This implies that well dispersed small Pt particles exist on the catalyst. This result was continued by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) analysis. Consequently, it can be concluded that highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles could be prepared by the novel pretreatment technique and thus, CO conversion could be increased considerably especially at the low temperatures below $100^{\circ}C$.

  • In this study, $V_2O_5/TiO_2$ catalyst was measured reactivity of ethanol when vanadia ratio was increasing. First, $V_2O_5/TiO_2$ catalyst was prepared to the increasing vanadia ($VO_x$) ratio as 0.2, 1, 10 wt%. And we were used X-ray diffraction (XRD), then not appear markedly peak to pure vanadia about XRD analysis. So we were decided vanadia that was evenly dispersed on $TiO_2$. Result about temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) analysis was obtained 3 reactions that was dehydrogenationfrom obtained to acetaldehyde, dehydration from obtained to ethylene, condensation from obtained to diethyl ether. If vanadia ratio was increasing in $V_2O_5/TiO_2$, reactions temperature of ethanol was known lower. And condensation into diethyl ether is quenched away with increasing vanadia loading. In addition, competition between reductive dehydration and oxidative dehydrogenation occurs, while the selectivity toward dehydrogenation is favored with increasing vanadia loading.
