Transformation of Text Contents of Engineering Documents into an XML Document by using a Technique of Document Structure Extraction (문서구조 추출기법을 이용한 엔지니어링 문서 텍스트 정보의 XML 변환)

  • This paper proposes a method for transforming unstructured text contents of engineering documents, which have complex hierarchical structure of subtitles with various heading symbols, into a semi-structured XML document according to the hierarchical subtitle structure. In order to extract the hierarchical structure from plain text information, this study employed a method of document structure extraction which is an analysis technique of the document structure. In addition, a method for processing enumerative text contents was developed to increase overall accuracy during extraction of the subtitles and construction of a hierarchical subtitle structure. An application module was developed based on the proposed method, and the performance of the module was evaluated with 40 test documents containing structural calculation records of bridges. The first test group of 20 documents related to the superstructure of steel girder bridges as applied in a previous study and they were used to verify the enhanced performance of the proposed method. The test results show that the new module guarantees an increase in accuracy and reliability in comparison with the test results of the previous study. The remaining 20 test documents were used to evaluate the applicability of the method. The final mean value of accuracy exceeded 99%, and the standard deviation was 1.52. The final results demonstrate that the proposed method can be applied to diverse heading symbols in various types of engineering documents to represent the hierarchical subtitle structure in a semi-structured XML document.

  • extensible Markup Language (XML) is a new markup language for data exchange on the Internet. In this paper, we propose a language extensible Rule Markup Language (XRML) which is an extension of XML. The implicit rules embedded in the Web pages should be identifiable, interchangeable with structured rule format, and finally accessible by various applications. It is possible to realize by using XRML. In this light, Web based Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) can be integrated with rule-based expert systems. To meet this end, we propose the six design criteria: Expressional Completeness, Relevance Linkability, Polymorphous Consistency, Applicative Universality, Knowledge Integrability and Interoperability. Furthermore, we propose three components such as RIML (Rule Identification Markup Language), RSML (Rule Structure Markup Language) and RTML (Rule Triggering Markup Language), and the Document Type Definition DTD). We have designed the XRML version 0.5 as illustrated above, and developed its prototype named Form/XRML which is an automated form processing for disbursement of the research fund in the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAISI). Since XRML allows both human and software agent to use the rules, there is huge application potential. We expect that XRML can contribute to the progress of Semantic Web platforms making knowledge management and e-commerce more intelligent. Since there are many emerging research groups and vendors who investigate this issue, it will not take long to see XRML commercial products. Matured XRML applications may change the way of designing information and knowledge systems in the near future.

An Efficient Application of XML Schema Matching Technique to Structural Calculation Document of Bridge (XML 스키마 매칭 기법의 교량 구조계산서 적용 방안)

  • An efficient application method of XML schema matching technique to the document structure of structural calculation document (SCD) of bridge is proposed. With 30 case studies, a parametric study on weightings of name, sibling, child, and parent elements of XML scheme component that are used in the similarity measure of XML schema matching technique has been performed, and suitable weighting to analyze document structure of SCD is suggested. A simplified formula for quantification of similarity is also introduced to reduce computation time in huge scale document structure of SCDs. Numerical experiments show that the suggested method can increase the accuracy of XML schema matching by 10% with suitable weighting parameters, and can maintain almost the same accuracy without weighting parameters compared to previous studies. In addition, computation time can be reduced dramatically when the proposed simplified formula for the quantification of similarity is used. In the numerical experiments of testing 20 practical SCDs of bridges, the suggested method is superior to previous studies in the accuracy of analyzing document structure and 4 to 460 times faster than the previous results in computation time.

  • This paper proposes XML based mobile information visualization system using rectangle layout to show effectively XML based information to user on mobile devices which do not have a rich display feature. We define XML schema that can describes information in graph with cycle as well as information in tree form. It suggests using rectangle layout method that is an improvement of the traditional method of the radial layout because the specificity of the mobile display should be considered when XML information is rendered on the screen. And then, it applies DOI of fisheye view algorithm to information on the rectangle layout to represent all and user interest information. And it also suggests an effective method considering capability of mobile devices to decrease user's confusion and improve awareness of user when a user Interest target selected. The proposed information visualization system in the form of focus+context supports an effective interface for information retrieval via mobile devices, such as PDA, cellular phone and smart phone, that usually have less power of CPU than that of PC and the constraints of display and memory. In this paper, it performs experiments and makes an evaluation comparing information visualization method between the traditional radial layout and the proposed rectangle layout.

Combination of an adaptive hypermedia system and an external application using a message hooking mechanism (메시지 후킹 메커니즘을 이용한 적응형 하이퍼미디어 시스템과 외부 응용 프로그램의 결합)

  • While a user is using an adaptive hypermedia system, the user can also use an external application. If the user accesses the information which is related to the contents provided by the adaptive hypermedia system, it can affect a user profile that contains the information about the knowledge or interests of the user. However, the adaptive hypermedia system understands user's behavior based on whether a page is accessed or not and it is difficult for the system to recognize user's behavior that can occur outside the adaptive hypermedia system. In this paper, we propose an approach that can detect user's behavior using a message hooking mechanism so that both user's behavior inside an adaptive hypermedia system and behaviors that occur outside the system can be reflected in a user profile. We analyze user events using a hooking mechanism and update a user profile using an XML parser.

  • The advancement of information technology along with the proliferation of communication and multimedia has increased the demand of digital contents. Video data of digital contents such as VOD, NOD, Digital Library, IPTV, and UCC are getting more permeated in various application fields. Video data have sequential characteristic besides providing the spatial and temporal information in its 3D format, making searching or browsing ineffective due to long turnaround time. In this paper, we suggest ATVC(Authoring Tool for Video Contents) for solving this issue. ATVC is a video editing tool that detects key frames using visual rhythm and insert metadata such as keywords into key frames via XML tagging. Visual rhythm is applied to map 3D spatial and temporal information to 2D information. Its processing speed is fast because it can get pixel information without IDCT, and it can classify edit-effects such as cut, wipe, and dissolve. Since XML data save key frame information via XML tag and keyword information, it can furnish efficient browsing.

  • With recent progress of related multimedia computing technologies, it is necessay to retrieve diverse types of multimedia data based on multi-media content and their relationships. However, different from alphanumeric data, it is difficult to provide relevant multimedia information, be-cause multimedia contents and their relationships are implied in multimedia data. Therefore, in case of a multimedia news service system that is a representative multimedia application, most of new services provide relevant news about text articles and retrieval of multimedia news such as video news or image news are provided independently. In this paper, we present an XML-based multimedia news management system, which provides integrating, retrieval, and delivery of relevant multimedia news. Our data model composed of media object, relationship object, and view object represents diverse types of multimedia news content and semantically related multimedia news. In addition, a proposed view mechanism makes it possible to customize multimedia news, and therefore provides multimedia news efficiently.

  • 홈 네트워크에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 각 정보가전들이 점점 지능화 되어가고, 정보가전의 데이터 서비스에 대한 욕구가 증가하면서 정보가전용 데이터들을 위한 규격이 필요하게 되었다. 규격화가 됨으로써 정보가전용 데이터들의 효율적인 관리와 적은 비용의 유지보수가 가능하게 된다. 데이터 표준화 도구로 주목을 받는 XML을 기반으로 정보가전용 데이터를 규격화하면 개발의 확장성 측면에서 바람직하며, 이를 통해 앞으로 개발될 새로운 관련기술들을 보다 쉽게 적용할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 정보가전용 데이터 응용 프로그램의 요구 사항을 분석하고 이를 토대로 댁내의 정보가전 및 각 정보가전에 대한 데이터와 메시지들을 추출하고, 이를 이용하여 인터넷 정보가전용 규격에 대한 두 가지 방법을 제안한다. 첫 번째 제안의 내용은 추출한 데이터 대한 XML 규격화이고, 두 번째는 HDAL(Home Data Access Library)을 이용한 클라이언트와 서버 사이의 주고받는 SOAP 메시지들에 대한 XML 규격화이다. 이 두 가지 제안에 대해 구체적으로 기술하고, 이 제안이 홈 네트워크 환경에서 사용되는 예를 직접 제시한다.

  • In parallel with emphasizing more transparency and social responsibility of businesses, usage rate of XBRL, a XML-based language specific to business reporting, is rapidly increasing. XBRL takes the same approach with the standardization of B2B electronic documents in that it defines components (concepts and their structures) of business reporting documents using XSD(XML Schema Definition). However, it is fundamentally different from the standardization of B2B electronic documents because it restricts concepts to specific types and it defines diverse relationship types for connecting the concepts to themselves and other additional information. As XBRL applications are getting activated, one hot issue is the necessity for standardization of XBRL documents in the national level and reusing the components systematically This paper proposes an alternative based on the problem analysis in order to make it possible to standardize and reuse XBRL documents systematically by applying the UN/CEFACT Core Component methodology.

  • Client- server interaction in a massive multi-player online role-playing game(MMORPG) is usually made via network-message Passing. Since the game contents and elements in such MMORPGs are consistently evolved, messages need to be added, deleted, or modified accordingly. Therefore, game programmers are repeatedly required to write new programs or at least modify existing programs. The XML-based message definition system introduced in this paper facilitates the addition and modification of messages for game interaction ; it not only allows programmers to save a considerable amount of time for modifying existing messages or adding new messages but also relieves them of a serious burden of programming bugs. In addition, this system can be used for general client-server applications.
