  • A 250 kton water Cherenkov detector is proposed to be built in Korea to determine the CP violation phase and the neutrino mass ordering using a neutrino beam produced in J-PARC of Japan. It will be also a world-leading neutrino telescope to reveal the mystery of supernova explosion by observing a neutrino burst. The telescope is expected to detect more than 100,000 neutrinos in ten seconds from a supernova explosion in our Galaxy. The pointing accuracy will be better than 1 degree and be able to guide early optical telescope observations. The expected rate of supernova explosion in our galaxy is once per every 30 years in the most optimistic case or once per every 100 years in the worst case. If it is indeed observed, it will be a historical chance to study the supernova explosion mechanism in great details. In this talk, various astronomy potentials will be discussed if the Korean neutrino observatory is built.

  • By employing the concept of equivalent linkage, this paper presents an analytical method for analyzing the mechanical errors of disk cam mechanisms with a flat-faced follower. The resulting error equations do not really involve the location of the curvature center of the cam profile, and locating the curvature center of the cam profile is not essential. The resulting errors are significantly affected by the pressure angle, and the smaller pressure angle will result in the smaller mechanical error. In the worst case, owing to the joined effects of various design parameters, the accuracy of the follower motion may degrade considerably. For the oscillating follower case, all acceleration error functions have a sudden change at every beginning and at every end of the motion even though the theoretical follower displacement is cycloidal motion.

  • The error rate performance of amplitude phase keying system has been studied in the environment of cochannel interference and impulsive noise. We have derived the error probability equations of amplitude shift keying signal and phase shift keying signal, and combining the results, we have evaluated the circular APK signal which is the one of the several cases of APK arrays. Using the derived equations, the circular APK system has been evaluated in terms of carrier-to-noise power ratio(CNR), carrier-to-interferer power ratio(CIR), and impulsive index. The graphic results show us the best case and worst case of APK system, and good performance compared to the other systems in cochannel interference and impulsive noise.

  • Designers have to consider voice of customer, process capability, manufacturing standards & condition, manufacturing method, characteristics of products to decide tolerances. Especially, in case of position of hole and pin, designers have to consider process capability to decide tolerances. The traditional position tolerances used in a drawing are theoretical values which are allocated to position under the worst case assembling condition that both hole and pin are the maximum material condition(MMC). However, When the process capability is high, more exact product size can be produced under stable manufacturing condition. larger clearance of hole and pin can be allocated. In this point of view, manufacturer could increase the yield by allocating larger position tolerance than theoretical position tolerance of hole and pin considering process capability.

  • This article presents a new algorithm for the K Shortest Paths Problem which develops initial K shortest paths, and repeal to expose hidden shortest paths with dual approach and to replace the longest path in the present K paths. The initial solution which comprises K shortest paths among shortest paths to traverse each arc is made from bidirectional Dijkstra algorithm. When a crossing node that have two or more inward arcs is found at least three time by turns in this K shortest paths, one inward arc of this crossing node, which has minimum detouring distance, is chosen, and a new path is exposed with joining a detouring subpath from source to this inward arc and a spur of a feasible path from this crossing node to sink. This algorithm, requires worst case time complexity of $O(Kn^2),\;and\;O(n^2)$ in the case $K{\leq}3$.

  • The correspondence problem is known to be difficult to solve because false positives and false negatives almost always exist in real image sequences. In this paper, we propose a robust feature tracking algorithm considering incomplete trajectories such as entering and/or vanishing trajectories. We solve the correspondence problem as the optimal graph search problem, by considering false feature points and by properly reflecting motion characteristics. The proposed algorithm finds a local optimal correspondence so that the effect of false feature points can be minimized in the decision process. The time complexity of the proposed graph search algorithm is given by O(mn) in the best case and O(m$^2$n) in the worst case, where m and n are the number of feature points in two consecutive frames. The proposed algorithm can find trajectories correctly and robustly, which has been shown by experimental results.

  • As semiconductor devices are being scaled down, random variation becomes a critical issue, especially in the case of static random access memory (SRAM). Thus, there is an urgent need for statistical methodologies to analyze the impact of random variations on the SRAM. In this paper, we propose a novel sampling method based on the concept of a confidence ellipse. Results show that the proposed method estimates the SRAM margin metrics in high-sigma regimes more efficiently than the standard Monte Carlo (MC) method.

  • Finding the critical path (or the longest path) on acyclic directed graphs, which is well-known as PERT/CPM, the ambiguity of each acr's length can be modeled as a range or an interval, in which the actual length of arc may realize. In this case, the min-max regret criterion, which is widely used in the decision making under uncertainty, can be applied to find the critical path minimizing the maximum regret in the worst case. Since the min-max regret critical path problem with the interval arc's lengths is known as NP-hard, this paper proposes a heuristic algorithm to diminish the maximum regret. Then the computational experiments shows the proposed algorithm contributes to the improvement of solution compared with the existing heuristic algorithms.

  • The performance of a centrifugal compressor composed of an impeller, tandem diffuser rows and axial guide vanes has been predicted numerically and compared with available experimental results on its design rotational speed. The pitchwise-averaged mixing plane method was employed for the boundaries between rotor and stator to obtain steady state solutions. The overall characteristics showed differently according to the relative positions of tandem diffuser rows while the characteristics of impeller showed almost identical. The numerical results agree with the measured data in respect of their tendency. It turned out that 0% of relative positions is the worst case in terms of static pressure recovery and efficiency. According to the experimental results, some pressure fluctuations and malfunction of the compressor were observed for 75% case. However, this numerical calculation using mixing plane method did not capture any of those phenomena. Thus, unsteady flow calculation should be performed to investigate the stability of the compressor caused by different diffuser configuration.
