This study analyzes the actual state of the working uniforms worn by burning waste workers to protect their body from the hazardous environment. Directions for improvement of the clothing fabrics is also suggested. We visited and interviewed those persons who worked in the burning waste plant in Seoul and in Gyunggi Province. 245 workers were surveyed by questionnaires, and 211 workers out of 245 were statistically analyzed. Frequencies and percentages were calculated and $\chi$$^2$ test, ANOVA and Scheffe Post hoc comparison methods were utilized to test some hypothesis. The working uniforms were classified as four general types: separate type, disposable-coverall. overall, and winter clothes. At present, the working uniforms are not suitable for the conditions which they are used. There is a lack of ventilation and an inability to absorb perspiration limited elasticity, and the uniforms are prone to static shock. The degree of satisfaction varied significantly, based on the worker's educational background and main work. However, only a small percentage of workers interviewed were satisfied with the appearance and the fit of the present working uniforms. The working duration had a negative impact on the satisfaction of the worker. This results suggest that materials, colors, design and size of working clothes must be improved. The suggestions are as follows: Firstly. to use disposable non-woven fabrics finished to increase moisture regain. Secondly. to use the bad air permeability fabrics to protect the skin from absorbtion of harmful gases, flying dust, heavy metals, etc.
The purpose of this case study was to design development of Working Uniform in 10 enterprises which were located in Changwon national industrial complex. The 10 enterprises were small-medium business in machinery. For finding actual conditions and preferences by employers, interview with employers was accomplished and their uniforms were collected. The uniforms were analyzed by Design elements ; shapes, colors, details. From the results, working uniforms were designed by each enterprise. The design was suggested CAD work sheets and send to each enterprise. After discussion and correction, design were made in fabric. Total 50 items(winter jacket and pants, spring & fall jacket and pants and summer T-shirts) were made by P/C, P/A and polyester coolon materials. The new designs have worn by the enterprises, now. This case study could be one of academic - industrial relationship cooperation.
Public uniforms play an important role in creating the color and image of urban environment beyond the level of simple working clothes for unity and practicality. Hence this study aims to compare and analyze the color characteristics and images of the police officer, fire fighter, and street cleaner uniforms at home and abroad to guarantee the wearer's safety, increase convenience and agreeability, and give emotional satisfaction to citizens in harmony with urban environment color as public uniforms. For study methods, literature review investigated urban environment, color, and uniforms as public design. Empirical study extracted color data from the public worker uniforms of the world's top 20 cities selected by 'Newsweek' in 2010 and analyzed their colors, tones, and color images. The results of this study are as follows. The most common color for police uniforms were PB(dk) as the main color, PB(p) as the sub color, and Wh as the accent color. For fire fighter uniforms, PB(dkg) was the most common main color; GY(v), as the sub color; and ItGy, as the accent color. The most common color for street cleaner uniforms was YR(v) as the main color; GY(v), as the sub color; and mGy, as the accent color. As a result of analyzing color images of these uniforms, it was found that police uniforms commonly used a modern image; fire fighter uniforms commonly used a natural image and a cool casual image; and street cleaner uniforms commonly used a casual image. As examined above, the color of public uniforms suitable for urban environment and job characteristics is very important to establish the image of public institutions, as well as to create an urban image.
The purpose of this study is to develop house caddie uniforms design which reflects the CI and image of 'Golfzon County Sunwoon', a representative golf course in the Honam circle, to enhance a positive image of a golf course and improve house caddies' service quality and their working efficiency. Study methods were as follows. In literature review, the domestic golf industry, golf culture, and house caddie uniforms as one of golf course CI elements were investigated. In empirical study, the formativeness of domestic golf course CI and house caddie uniforms was analyzed. Then, house caddie uniforms were developed using CI which is the symbolic element of a golf course. A concept for uniforms design development was 'Golf & Culture Communication' to symbolically represent an image of IT-based total golf culture club. It was limited to female uniforms design for spring or autumn that is high in application. A symbol and a logo which are symbolic elements of a golf course were freely worn in the form of a brooch. Symbolism and practicality were reinforced using PB(v), R(v), YR(v), and Y(vp) colors only for a golf course. Functionality was improved by using UV protection materials and aesthetics was expressed by reflecting 2014-15 F/W trends.
The importance of uniform is getting increased in the present society because it is one of symbols which represent a company and give customers the image of it. Uniform shows the kind of companies, one's position, and sometimes the actual job which one does. And workers who put on the same kind of uniform feel companionship among them, the security of their position and responsibility for their job, all of which elevate the efficiency of their job and the company. To enhance the functions of uniforms such as representativeness, esthetics, convenience and economization, the followings were studied. 1) Through survey on the present condition of seven different types of company uniforms, we analyzed preference of workers, staffs and consumers and did the factor analysis of uniform constitution. 2) It presented the relative importance among the uniform constitution. 3) The reflective condition of the uniform constitution was estimated. 4) It investigated the working condition and working movement.
This survey investigates the conditions of summer working uniforms for contracted foodservice workers. The data were obtained from 67 workers through in-depth interviews (July 2005~October 2005). The results of study are as follows: The working environment changed to menu and cooking method (air temperature $28\sim37^{\circ}C$, humidity 72~86 %RH, radiant temperature $27\sim37^{\circ}C$, air velocity 0.14~0.37m/sec). They answered that the working environment has high temperatures, humidity, excessive noise, and liability to slide. The typical accidents were burns, cuts, slide, and ligament injuries in the workplace. Work duties consisted of cooking, serving food, washing, and cleaning up leftover food. All the employees carried out multi tasks. The primary working postures and motions were standing, crouching, and lifting. The female workers usually wore underwear (panty and brassiere), upper and lower work wear, aprons, waterproof-aprons, cotton-gloves, rubber-gloves, socks, and rubber-boots. The satisfaction of the uniform was relatively low for trousers and waterproof-aprons. The answer about the fit was generally "comfortable." They answered "back," "chest," and "head" were wet with perspiration during work. The uncomfortable parts were the crotch and neck. Questions concerning their satisfaction with the material of uniforms indicated a high rate of dissatisfaction, particularly for ventilation and absorbency. In case of the colors of the working uniform, workers preferred white color for the upper part, and black color for the lower part.
The research was done against female workers in public officers to find out the actual conditions and usage of uniforms worn in government and other public offices, to find out the degree of their satisfaction for it's appearance, costs, functions and representation. The research was done by questioning 402 female workers about their uniforms in various government and other public offices and the results analysed from the research are as it follows below. 1. The shape of uniforms in public offices were mostly in three piece(jacket+vest+skirt) shape, many of them in gray color and the material were made of blended fabrics. 2. The satisfactory garde of the uniform couldn't even reach the level of '3 point', in which it is easy to tell that the workers had low satisfaction with their uniforms. The level of satisfaction in it's appearance, functions, costs and representation were below average, the rankings starting with functions, representation, appearance, costs and it was shown that the most satisfied category was in it's functions and the lest in costs.
This study provides basic data for future design proposals aimed at improving the uniforms and bullet/stab proof garments of local police. An analysis was conducted on various aspects of the uniforms used until 2015 and those newly introduced in 2016. Current bullet/stab proof garments were compared with old stab proof garments; in addition, police force posting on the internal SNS were analyzed in regards to the improvement needs for uniforms. Analyses results are as follows. As for the uniforms, convenience was improved by eliminating the necktie, and the four trigrams embroidery was added to emphasize the Korean identity. Cargo-style pants were added for enhanced activity, and the color of the top was changed to turquoise to improve discrimination. In terms of material, durable polyester was used heavily in outside uniforms that were likely to be damaged during work; consequently, the percentage of elastic materials was increased for improved activity. The price showed a high increase rate due to inflation and the use of functional new materials. Complaints and demands for improvement continued despite various modifications made to uniforms and suggested a strong need for further improvements that reflected the opinions of wearers. As for the protective garments, there was a limit to reducing the final weight despite the use of lightweight material because of protection performance enhancements made from expanding the protection surface area. Also, considering further decrease in supply rate, it was deemed necessary to secure budget for full supply of bullet/stab proof garments.
This study focuses on the establishment of the medical practitioners' brand image through uniforms design developments and the need for recognition, which follows the globalization and evolution of the medical industry. It also embodies public healthcare management services, as well as works to develop a unified design for nurse uniforms at the Gyeonggi provincial medical center in order to place it as a foothold hospital in the region. The results of the study are as follows: First, the symbols of nurse uniforms were divided into external and internal definitions. However, when comparing the uniforms of university hospitals and Gyeonggi provincial medical center, the nurses of the Gyeonggi provincial medical center preferred a uniform that had a strong symbolic meaning. Second, the functionality of nurse uniforms included management of uniforms, sewing, and measurements as important elements. Also, it was found that medical center nurses prefer materials with high functionality. Third, the aesthetics of nurse uniforms and decoration, which includes the external shape and popular influences, were displayed. Also, medical center nurses have a higher preference in external aesthetics than university hospital employees. The results of this study were used as the basis for the development of the design for the Gyeonggi provincial medical center nurse uniforms, which are as follows. First, in terms of symbolism, active application of the Gyeonggi provincial medical center's brand image and medical practitioners such as the Gyeonggi provincial medical center's logo were applied to establish a unified image. Second, in terms of functionality, consideration of the special working conditions and activities were taken into place through the use of functional materials and details to create superior application and efficient work performance. Third, in terms of beauty, bright and neat colors as well as pleasantries were emphasized to create a professional image that will reel in confidence from the patients.
In this paper the Korean standards of clothing for firefighters were examined and analysed to improve the uniform's effectiveness. The results of the analysis are as follows: 1. The Korean standards for firefighters' uniforms first established in 1949 and were amended eleven times before 1983. The standards were reestablished in 1983 and had been amended four times by 1995. Recently there have been different causes of fire, and fires have become bigger and bigger. For these reasons, it is necessary to review the Korean standards for firefighters' uniforms. 2. The Korean standards are very different from those of Japan and USA. In Japan, firefighters' uniforms are classified by factors such as season and working conditions, while in Korea they are classified by factors such as sex and position. Furthermore, there are many items which are not mentioned in the Korean standards, such as ear covers and gloves. Textile materials are specified by brand names or company-designated item names. Classification of clothing items also needs to be esamined. 3. Such words as fire-proof, water-proof and heat-proof clothing just mean that the clothing blocks fire, water, or hear, and do not specifically include the meaning of protecting firefighters. Some word such as "firefighters' clothing" must be developed to imply all these types of blockage and protection. 4. Considering the rules of Korean orthography, the rules of romanization of borrowed words, and technical terms for clothing many technical words in the Korean standards for firefighters' uniforms are not appropriate, and need to be corrected and improved.
