  • This paper provides a performance study of multistage interconnection networks in packet switching environment. In comparison to earlier work, the model is more extensive - it includes several parameters such as multiple-packet messages, variable buffer size, and wait delay at a source. The model is also uniformly applied to several representative networks and thus provides a basis for fair comparison as well as selection of optimal values for parameters. The complexity of the model required use of simulation. However, a partial analytical model is provided to measure the congestion in a network.

  • Constructing a bilingual multi-word lexicon is confronted with many difficulties such as an absence of a commonly accepted gold-standard dataset. Besides, in fact, there is no everybody's definition of what a multi-word unit is. In considering these problems, this paper evaluates and analyzes the context vector approach which is one of a novel alignment method of constructing bilingual lexicons from parallel corpora, by comparing with one of general methods. The approach builds context vectors for both source and target single-word units from two parallel corpora. To adapt the approach to multi-word units, we identify all multi-word candidates (namely noun phrases in this work) first, and then concatenate them into single-word units. As a result, therefore, we can use the context vector approach to satisfy our need for multi-word units. In our experimental results, the context vector approach has shown stronger performance over the other approach. The contribution of the paper is analyzing the various types of errors for the experimental results. For the future works, we will study the similarity measure that not only covers a multi-word unit itself but also covers its constituents.

  • In this study a novel cogeneration system driven by low-temperature sources at a temperature level below $190^{\circ}C$ is investigated by first and second laws of thermodynamics. The system consists of Organic Rankine Cycle(ORC) and an additional heat generation as a parallel circuit. Seven working fluids of R143a, R22, R134a, R152a, $iC_4H_{10}$(isobutane), $C_4H_{10}$(butane), and R123a are considered in this work. Maximum mass flow rate of a working fluid relative to that of the source fluid and optimum turbine inlet pressure are considered to extract maximum power from the source. Results show that due to a combined heat and power generation, both the efficiencies by first and second laws can be significantly increased in comparison to a power generation, however, the second law efficiency is more resonable in the investigation of cogeneration systems. Results also show that the working fluid for the maximum system efficiency depends on the source temperature.

  • The command of Subway is intended to adjust and control the train operation, and to play a key role of the total passenger transport and all kinds of affairs related to the safe train operation. Also, this can be considered as affairs to be controlled and operated by Total Traffic Control. For the purpose of developing the ATO system in using the new control technology by substituting the conventional ATS equipment, this technical document includes the technical points resulted from doing the replacement construction in the entire section of Subway Line 2 by Seoul Metro. The replacement work with the new ATO System should neither stop nor affect the system under operation while operating the current ATS System. The different systems should not interfere with each other while performing their individual affairs, and be composed to share the important data for the parallel operation. This technology is needed to proceed in assurance of a high degree of reliability.

  • This study proposes a systems engineering approach for the development of an advanced planning & scheduling (APS) system for a cosmetic case manufacturing factory. The APS system makes production plans and schedules based on the injection process, which consists of 27 plastic injection machines in parallel to control recommended inventory of products. The system uses machine operation/failure information and defective product/work-in-process tracking information to support intelligent scheduling. Furthermore, a genetic algorithm model is applied to handle the complexity of heuristic rules and machine/quality constraints in this process. As a result of the development, the recommended inventory compliance rate is improved by scheduling the 30-day production plan for 15 main products.

  • The availability equivalence factors of a general repairable series-parallel system is discussed in this paper based on the availability function of the system. The system components are assumed to be repairable and independent but not identical. The life and repair times of the system components are exponentially distributed with different parameters. Two types of availability equivalent factors of the system are derived. The results derived in this paper generalizes those given in the literature. A case study is introduced to illustrate how the idea of this work can be applied.

  • A queueing system with 2 parallel workstations is common in the field. Typically, the workstations have different features in terms of the inter arrival times of customers and the service times for the customers. Computer simulation study on the optimal server allocation for parallel heterogeneous queueing systems with fixed number of identical servers is presented in this paper. The queueing system is optimized with respect to minimizing the weighted system time of the customers served by 2 parallel workstations. The system time formula for the M/M/c systems in Kendall's notation is known. Thus, we first compute the optimal allocation for parallel M/M/c systems, comparing the results with those from the computer simulation experiments, and have the same results. The CETI rule is devised through optimizing M/M/c cases, which allocates the servers based on Close or Equal Traffic Intensities between workstations. Traffic intensity is defined as the arrival rate divided by the service rate times the number of servers. The CETI rule is shown to work for M/G/c, G/M/c queueing systems by numerous computer simulation experiments, even if the rule cannot be proven analytically. However, the CETI rule is shown not to work for some of G/G/c systems.

  • This work deals with kinematic analysis of fault-tolerant 3 degree-of-freedom spherical modules which have force redundancies in its parallel structure. The performance of a redundantly actuated four-legged module with no actuator failure, a single actuator failure, partial and half failure of dual actuator are compared to that of a three-legged module, in terms of maximum force transmission ratio, isotropic characteristics, and fault-tolerant capability. Additionally, a system with an excess number of small floating actuators is considered, and the contribution of these small actuators to the force transmission and fault-tolerant capability is evaluated. This study illustrates that the redundant actuation mode allows significant saving of input actuation effort, and also delivers a fault tolerance.

  • The 5-parameter Morse potential (5-MP) method for the interaction between O atom and Cr surfaces is constructed in the present work. The adsorption of O on Cr (100), (110), (111), and (211) surfaces are studied with 5-MP in detail. The fourfold hollow site of the Cr (100) surface is favored for O atom. On Cr (110), quasithreefold site is favored with the parallel frequencies (the frequencies of O atom paralleling the metal surface) of 342 and 538 $cm^{-1}$, and perpendicular frequency (the frequency of O atom perpendicular to the metal surface) at 526 $cm^{-1}$. On Cr (111), the most favored mode for O atom is found to be the quasi-threefold site with the perpendicular frequency at 553 $cm^{-1}$ and the parallel frequencies at 253 and 399 $cm^{-1}$. According to our calculation results, we speculate the most preferred mode for O adsorption on Cr (211) surface is the quasithreefold site with the perpendicular frequency at 583 $cm^{-1}$ and the parallel frequencies at 449 and 185 $cm^{-1}$.

  • $\textbullet$ This paper presents a study on the development of a walking robot for an armor-stone work of the breakwater construction. The armor-stone work is putting stones about 0.3 ∼ 2m3 on the surface of the breakwater to prevent it from waving. $\textbullet$ This work has been done manually, and its process plan is uncertain by effects of the weather, wave and tide of sea. Therefore the constructional cost is considered to be wasteful $\textbullet$ Working in underwater as well as on land for human workers causes the accident and caisson disease, so it is necessary to replace the process to be mechanized. $\textbullet$ The basic requirements of the robot for mechanizing are as follows : 1) To have a large...
