  • To evaluate the microstructure of various combination clasp joint in removable partial denture, the auther selected framework alloys (Type IV gold alloy, Dentaurium, Ticonium 100) and wrought wires (gold alloy, Ticonium) for this study. Twelve series of combination joints were made by investment soldering technic and wrought wire embedded casting technic. All specimens were cut cross-sectionally and longitudinally, then examined with metallurgical microscope. The results were as follows; Some diffusion was observed in the properly constructed combination clasp joints. In soldered joints, empolying precious alloys were more favorable than non-precious alloys. In castion joints, assemblage of same alloy between framework and wrought wire was superior to other groups. Some impurities were observed in both joints by technical problems.

  • This paper presents a 2.65 GHz Doherty power amplifier with internally-matched GaN HEMT. Internal matching circuits were adopted to match its harmonic impedances inside the package. Simultaneously, due to the partially matched fundamental impedance, input and output matching networks become simpler. Bond wires and parasitic elements of transistor package were predicted by EM simulation. For the LTE signal with 6.5 dB PAPR, the implemented Doherty power amplifier shows a power gain of 13.0 dB, a saturated output power of 55.4 dBm, an efficiency of 49.1 %, and ACLR of -26.3 dBc at 2.65 GHz with an operating voltage of 48 V.

  • In this paper we propose an on-glass antenna which consists of conducting dual center striplines and multi-loaded striplines. Multi-loaded striplines and dual center lines were employed for achieving a broad matching bandwidth and improving a vertical radiation gain, respectively. The detail design parameters were determined using the Pareto genetic algorithm with an full wave EM simulator. The optimized design was built and installed on a commercial vehicle, and the antenna performances such as the return loss and the radiation gain were measured in a semi-anechoic chamber. The measurement results showed the matching bandwidth($S_{11}$<-3 dB) of about 49 % in the T-DMB frequency band, the vertical gain of about -3 dBi along the bore-sight direction, and the average gain of about -10 dBi along the azimuth direction.

  • Purpose: To measure the head tilting angle creating initial condylar cut-off and to find the head position inducing the superimposition of the cervical vertebrae over the mandibular ramus on panoramic radiograph. Materials and Methods: The panoramic radiographs were taken with Didactic skull on cervical spine model (Scientific GmbH, Hamburg, Germany) using Kodak 8000c Digital Panoramic radiography. For the inherent radiolucency of the plastic skull model, radiopaque 1 mm diameter lead wires were attached along the margin of the mandibular condyle, ramus, mandibular body, cervical vertebrae, and FH plane of the skull model. For measuring the head tilting angle creating the condylar head cutoff, panoramic radiographs were taken by tilting the FH plane downward in 5 degree increments. For finding the distance between transverse process of the third cervical vertebra and gonion inducing superimposition of cervical vertebrae on the mandibular ramus, panoramic radiographs were taken by decreasing the distance in 0.5 cm increments. Result and Conclusion: The condylar cutoff began to appear when the head of skull model was tilted downward by 15o. As the head tilting angle increasing, the condylar cutoff became more prominent. The superimposition of cervical vertebrae over the mandibular ramus began to appear when the distance between the gonion and third cervical vertebra was 1.0 cm. As the distance decreasing, the superimpostion became more prominent.

  • A 1 MVA single-phase high temperature superconducting (HTS) transformer with BSCCO-2223 wire was designed in this paper. The rated voltages of each sides of the transformer are 22.9 kV and 6.6 kV respectively. Double pancake HTS windings arranged reciprocally will be used for the transformer windings, because of the advantages of insulation and distribution of surge voltage in case of a large power and high voltage transformer. Single HTS wire was used for the primary windings and four parallel wires were used for the secondary windings of the transformer with transposition. A core of the transformer was designed as a shell type core separated with the windings by a cryostat made of GFRP with a room temperature bore. The operating temperature of the HTS windings will be about 65K with sub-cooled liquid nitrogen. A cryogenic cooling system using a GM-cryocooler for this HTS transformer by natural convection of liquid nitrogen was designed. This type of cooling system can be a good option for compactness, efficiency, and reliability of the HTS transformer.

  • This study analyzes the characteristics of bond behavior of concrete, which is confined by external jackets such as shape memory alloy (SMA) and steel, according to confinement and stiffness ratios of the external jackets. For this purpose, SMA wires with 1.0 mm diameter and steel plates with 1.0 and 1.5 thickness are used to induce difference on confinement and stiffness ratios and, then, bond strength and behavior are analyzed considering the two factors. When external jakcets are used for the concrete cylinders, bond strengths of specimens increase and their bond failures are transferred from splitting failure to pull-out failure and, thus, the external jackets show confining effect. Bond strenght of concrete increase with increasing confinement and stiffness ratios of the external jackets. However, maximal circumferential strains decrease linearly with increasing the two values.

  • In this study, the effect of an insulation coating on the start time of a linear region is theoretically investigated when an insulation-coated hot-wire is used for the transient hot-wire method (THWM). For this purpose, important parameters affecting the start time of the linear region are presented from an analytical solution of temperature-rise for an insulation-coated hot-wire. Furthermore, a critical time to ignore the influence of important parameters is studied. The theoretical results indicate that the effect of the insulation coating rapidly disappears with a decrease in the wire radius, coating thickness, thermal diffusivity of insulation material or an increase in the thermal conductivity of the insulation material. The results of this study will be helpful for selecting a proper start time of the linear region for the THWM using insulation-coated hot-wires.

  • We have developed the digital radiography system applied by the one dimensional multiwire proportional chamber. X-ray position signals were obtained from anode wires which were connected to counters through amplifiers and discriminators. The chamber was made of gas flow type and detector gas was P10. The threshold voltage which gives to the discriminator is independent on the neighboring channels. This improved the uniformity of the detector. Then the differential nonlineality is ${\pm}4%$. Increasing the gas pressure, the spatial resolution is about 1.4-mm at which the pitch of the anode wire is 2-mm. The object is scanned in vertical direction to take an image. The number of pixels in the image is $32{\times}32$.

  • This paper describes an experimental analysis for improving the stability of blade failure due to the vibration resonance, which happens in the low-pressure steam turbine. Some cracks due to high cycle fatigue were found in the blades of a low-pressure turbine after long time operation. Impact test showed that such failure was mainly caused by the resonance. In other words, since one of the natural frequencies of the grouped blade is very close to the excitation frequency of the nozzle, the resonant vibration leads to a large amplitude of displacement and results in a large amount of stress that may cause fatigue failures in the blades. It is interesting that the blade failures occur only at blades neighboring with the nodal points of the natural vibration mode whose natural frequency is close to the nozzle passing frequency. The effective methods for increasing the reliability against the blade vibration are a heightening the fatigue limit of the blade using an advanced material and a removing the resonance away from the operating speed. It is well known that the removal of theresonance could be obtained by the installation of different types of shrouds, wires, and links between the blades as well as by the chance of the number of nozzles. In the present work, two kinds of modification for avoiding the resonance haute been considered; 1) slot-type finger, 2) long span cover. Full-scale mockup tests have been performed in order to confirm the verification for modification in the shop. Test results show that the use of long span cover is very useful to change the natural frequencies of the grouped blade and to avoid the resonance effectively.
