  • In this paper, we have analyzed the performance of a BRAM (The Broadcasting Recognizing Access Method) protocol, as a CSMA/CA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance) scheme, which is widely used in wireles LAN systems. We have selected a Fair BRAM protocol among CSMA/CA schemes, considering the fairness of channel usage and the simplicity of the protocol. We have compared the performance of BRAM protocol to that of CSMA/CD. to research the characteristics of BRAM in wireless LAN system. In order to analyze the performance of this system, we have set up an imbedded Markov chain and calculated state transition probabilities. Then we have calculated steady state probabilities and finally derived the throughput of a Fair BRAM moder. To verify our analysis, we have simulated practical models. Then, we have found that analytic results are very close to simulation ones. Our analysis of the BRAM protocol will be expected to be very helpful to design and evaluate a MAC (Media Access Control) protocol in wireless LAN systems.

  • Random access protocol takes advantage of constructing a decentralized wireless network due to its intrinsic spectrum sensing capability. Such technical feature goes well with cognitive radio networks consisting of heterogeneous wireless systems, in which a centralized control between heterogeneous wireless systems is hard to be implemented. Motivated by the decentralized feature of the random access, we adopt the random access protocol in cognitive radio networks, and evaluate the performance of a CSMA-based cognitive radio network.

  • In this paper, wireless communication from a smart phone to a hearing aid using audible frequency band sound was considered. 1kHz single channel carrier frequency was applied for amplitude shift keying (ASK) binary data modulation, and the result of the transmission and reception was tested. The overall system process was precisely explained and experimentally evaluated. The result will be applied for realizing a digital hearing aid with remote control feature by a smart phone.

  • Reliable detection and parameter estimation of a radar cross section(RCS) fluctuating target have been known as a difficult task. To reduce the effect of RCS fluctuation, various diversity techniques have been considered. This paper presents a new method for synthesizing a covariance matrix applicable to a coherent multi-input multi-output(MIMO) radar with frequency diversity. It is achieved by efficiently combining covariance matrices corresponding to different carrier frequencies such that the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) in the combined covariance matrix is maximized. The value of a synthesized covariance matrix is assessed by examining the phase curves of its entries and the improvement on direction of arrival(DOA) estimation.

  • In this paper, We analyzes how a synchronization error affects receiving system when using OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) transmission method in wireless LAN channel environment in which we can efficiently transmit wide-band information data. As a performance improvement method, performance distortion can be improved by applying convolution coding. As a result, in OFDM system, we could see that the higher a frequency offset is, the worse performance will be, and we could see that there was performance improvement by applying convolution coding in OFDM system in order to reach (BER=$10^{-3}$). However, when we use 64QAM (64Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), there was a huge influence between carriers by frequency offset at 0.05, 0.1.

  • In this paper, we study RF-powered backscatter cognitive radio networks to improve the performance for the secondary user which is backscatter radio based wireless sensors. In our proposed model, we consider an avoiding the doubly round-trip attenuation to add a carrier emitter and utilization of spectrum sensing information. When the primary channel is busy, the secondary user is able to harvest RF energy from the channel through a hybrid-access point (H-AP) and a carrier emitter. When the channel becomes idle, the secondary user will be use the harvested energy to operate wireless sensors, to use the sensing and to backscatter through the carrier emitter. We model mathematically the deterministic and multisource elements of a number of tagged channels. In the proposed communication environment, we show the BER performance of the backscatter communication using WiFi signal.

  • In this paper, the parameters of the RTT (Radio Transmission Techniques) for SANET (Ship Ad-hoc NETwork), which is considered for the next generation maritime communication systems, are set up. A channel model has been analyzed based on the practical measured maritime wireless channel in VHF (Very-High Frequency) for SANET system. Also, by considering the frame structure including preamble, guard time and pilots for both single and multi-carrier systems, the BER (Bit Error Rate) performances are evaluated and analyzed in the aspects of channel compensation and channel coding techniques. Based on the simulation results, optimal modulation & coding schemes are suggested for SANET. That is, in single-carrier system by using differential modulation schemes, channel compensation is not necessary. However, channel coding is helpful to achieve additional gain. On the other hand, when 16-QAM modulation is employed in multi-carrier system, the implementation of both channel compensation and channel coding techniques show huge performance gain for various of K values, which are related to different maritime environments, and the rolling effects of wave.

  • This paper suggests the methods to improve the wireless backhaul link of the Relay FDD mode that 3GPP LTE-Advanced supports. New RRC message and Relay startsup procedure are introduced to apply Carrier Aggregation in the Relay wireless backhaul. Also, we design new reference signal that makes Type 1 Relay operated in full-duplexing, expecting to maximize the radio resource utilization. And, we propose the efficient configuration for the periodic uplink control information under the backhaul subframe allocation method in LTE-Advanced Relay. Hereafter, the standard activities in the 3GPP RAN is supposed to focus on the improvement of the LTE-Advanced features. Therefore, the suggestions in this paper are expected to be actively discussed in the LTE-Advanced future releases.

  • A novel protocol is proposed to achieve sub-carner-based rate adaptation in OFDM-based wireless systems. The protocol requires the addition of one OFDM symbol to the Clear-to-Send (CTS) packet defined in the IEEE 802.11 standard_ When receiving a Ready-To-Send (RTS) packet, the receiver determines the number of bits to be allocated in each sub-carrier through channel estimation. This decision is delivered to the sender using an additional OFDM symbol. That is, bit-allocation over sub-carriers is achieved using only one additional OFDM symbol. The protocol also provides an error recovery process to synchronize the bit-allocation information between the sender and receiver. The protocol enhances the channel efficiency in spite of the overhead of one additional OFDM symbol.

  • In Wireless Sensor Networks, IEEE 802.11 happen unnecessary energy consume because of packet transmission using maximum power between sensor node. The BASIC scheme is to use maximum transmission power for RTS-CTS and minimum required transmission power so as to high energy efficiency for DATA-ACK. However BASIC scheme may degrade network throughput with collision of ACK packet by node in carrier sensing zone and may result in higher energy consumption than when using IEEE 802.11 without power control. Existing PCM(Power Control MAC) scheme is to use DATA packet transmission method by periodically maximum power level so as to sensing DATA packet transmit in carrier sensing zone of transmission node, and this method can avoid collision of ACK packet. This paper present problem by energy efficiency of PCM scheme, and design some more improved PCM scheme.
