A Safe and Reliable Method for Installing Wireless LAN into a Hospital

  • A medical environment in which patient information can be accessed anytime / anywhere is called a "ubiquitous environment". To realize such an environment, the installation of wireless LAN is quite effective. Because the maximum radio wave output (antenna power) is set low in Japan, it has been easy to safely introduce wireless LAN into hospitals, to date mainly into large hospitals. However, if the placement of access points is not done properly, problems will occur, such as signals not reaching the desired area. A solution to these types of problems is to do an electromagnetic-field propagation simulation, which should be performed before construction of the hospital. It is also necessary to protect against security problems, such as signal interception or illegal access. We herein show our procedures for the safe introduction of wireless LAN.

  • Wireless LAN(WLAN) is a rather mature communication technology connecting mobile terminals. IEEE 802.11 is a representative protocol among WLAN technologies. With the rising popularity of delay-sensitive real-time multimedia applications(video, voice and data) in IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN, it is important to study the MAC layer delay performance of WLANs. In this paper, performance for packet delay that recently have been proposed schemes is analysed in wireless LAN and proved performance results via simulation.

Analysis of Interference Effect between Wireless LAN and RADAR System in 5㎓ Band (5㎓대역에서 무선 LAM과 레이다 시스템간의 간섭영향 분석)

  • In this paper, we have analyzed that interference effect between wireless LAN(IEEE 802.11 a) and radar system in 5㎓ band. Recently, Korea frequency Authority is considering the frequency allocation of wireless LAN system about 5㎓ band that is previously used in radar system. The co­existence occurs interference problem between wireless LAN and radar system, so it is required to analyze the effect of co­channel interference. Accordingly, the frequency allocation could be predicted for wireless LAN system in 5㎓ band and the interference effect has been analyzed by simulation with the radar signal modeling. Simulation results which are presented by PER and EVM show that high SIR(20 ㏈) is required to achieve the target PER about 10­1.

  • The use of multi-level modulation scheme in the wireless LAN(Local Area Networks) system requires an accurate channel estimation. In this paper, we present sequential least squares(LS) channel estimation scheme based on decision-directed channel tracking scheme. The proposed scheme improves the performance of the conventional LS estimator for wireless LAN. In addition, its structure is suitable for the high-rate wireless LAN. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves about IdB Packet Error Rate(PER) gain compared to the LS scheme in a frequency selective channel.

  • The wireless-LAN(Local Area Network), which is emerged as a solution to cable problem and increasing requirement for communication network, has a several problem when it transmit information MAN protocol by used wired-LAN`s MAC protocol. Media Access protocol in Wireless-LAN has great effect on system performance and much studies are processing now. The PRMA(Packet Reservation Multiple Aeecss) of reservation method has a disadvantage that the system performance was degraded become of delay time in the reservation step as a resulting of collision. In this paper, using the TDD(Time Division Duplex) method amd modified PRMA method wireless-LAN modelled to overcome disadvantage, that id delay time due to collision in reservation step. The performance evaluation fo the model was done using M/M/1//M process model and this was simulation using SLAM.

Design and Implementation of 2.4 ㎓ and 5 ㎓ Dual Band Antenna for Access Point of Wireless LAN (무선 LAN 엑세스 포인트용 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz 이중공진 안테나의 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we present the 2.4 ㎓ and 5 ㎓ dual band antenna fur access point of WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network). The proposed antenna must have equal gains in both frequency bands to accept two services. We proposed using collinear array to compensate gain difference for two different frequency bands. Simulation results using 3D simulation program, CST MWS(Microwave Studio), for dual band antenna with collinear away show that the maximum gain is about 4.7 dBi at 2.4 ㎓, 5.2 dBi at 5.7 ㎓. We got additional gain of about 2.1 ㏈ with collinear array for 2.4 ㎓ in measurement. Measured results for the dual band antenna with collinear array show applicable performances for access point of wireless LAN.

Distributed Proportional Fair Scheduling for Wireless LANs (무선 LAN을 위한 분산화된 비례공정 스케줄링)

  • In this paper, we propose a distributed opportunistic scheduling scheme for wireless LAN network. Proportional fair scheduling is one of the opportunistic scheduling schemes and used for centralized networks, whereas we design distributed proportional fair scheduling (DPFS). In the proposed DPFS scheme, each receiver estimates channel condition and calculates independently its own priority with probabilistic manner, which can reduce excessive probing overhead required to gather the channel conditions of all receivers. We evaluate the proposed DPFS using extensive simulation and simulation results show that DPFS obtains up to 23% higher throughput than conventional scheduling schemes and has a flexibility to control the fairness and throughput by controlling the system parameter.

  • As the usage of wireless LAN becomes common in working environment, the number of database systems that support both wired and wireless users increases rapidly. The characteristics of wireless LAN that its speed is slow relatively comparing to wired network and the users in its environment connects to different communication points as they moves creates another challenge to be resolved in database systems. In the environment of hybrid communication systems, wired and wireless for voluminous data amount and a number of users, the two layer architecture of the conventional client-server database systems has limitation in the system performance. This is due to that server is the only point of data service in client-server database systems. In this paper, we discuss a new extended database system architecture that data services are distributed among servers and clients based on user database access patterns in order to improve system performance. We analyze the expected system performance by using simulation technique and prove the practical utilization of the system by demonstrating experimental results.

  • In this paper, to support a QoS level appropriate for the user in Wireless Home Network based Wireless LAN, we propose a QoS support architecture which includes Wired Network and Wireless Network. Actually, an important problem to support QoS in Wireless Home Network is approached not only on a MAC level in Wireless LAN but on a integrated method to combine Network layer with Datalink layer. Applying the integrated QoS support method. It is possible to provide QoS support architecture using a Wireless LAN terminal with a minimum changing, the proposed scheme has advantage of QoS support method, which is more superior than a existing scheme to support QoS in MAC level of Wireless LAN. Simulation results that overall performance of the proposed scheme can be improved.
