This study used 425 questionnaires from male grade 3 and 4 ROTC cadets of 12 universities located in P city and G-do. Data were collected from May 1 to June 23, 2017. The data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 23.0 using a ${\chi}^2-test$, independent t-test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Running 3km (t=3.26, p=0.046), self-esteem (t=1.06, p=0.003), organizational commitment (t=2.57, p<0.001) and transformational leadership (t=3.98, p<0.001) were significantly lower in the smoking group than the non-smoking group. There was a positive correlation between self-esteem, organizational commitment, and transformational leadership in both non-smokers and smokers. Therefore, to practice smoking cessation for the health promotion of ROTC cadets smokers, it is necessary to develop an effective education and intervention program that can enhance self-esteem, organizational commitment and transformational leadership.

  • This study examined the factors affecting the emergency nursing performance of nursing students during a simulation. The variables related to the simulation were the objective and subjective emergency nursing performance, critical thinking, program outcome, simulation satisfaction, simulation confidence, and simulation immersion. The participants were 92 senior students who provided informed consent with an explanation about attending the study. The general characteristics and simulation-related data were obtained from the students before and after the simulation. An assessor evaluated the objective emergency nursing performance during the simulation and program outcome through a report reviewed after the simulation. Data analysis was performed using the number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, X2-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and progressive regression through the SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. Emergency nursing performance by the assessor was negatively associated with the satisfaction of clinical practice (r=-.31, p=.005) and positively related to the subjective clinical performance (r=.23, p=.036). The affecting rate was just 12%, which was low for explaining the objective emergency nursing performance during the simulation. Further studies will be needed to explore other factors affecting the emergency nursing performance.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine whether chicken-rearing activity is effective on the character, emotion and self-esteem of middle school students, as a pilot study for the development of an animal-assisted education program based on chicken-rearing activity. School was selected as the place where students have experience with raising animals before and no poultry farms were located near the school. The experimental group consisted of 11 students as the chicken-rearing group. The conducted activities were greeting chickens, cleaning henhouse, feeding them, and picking eggs up for five months. Character, emotion and self-esteem scales were used as test tools, and pre-testing and post-testing were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the study. Data collected were analyzed by using SPSS Win 25.0 statistical program. As a result, the character, emotional stability and self-esteem of middle school students who participated in chicken-rearing activity were improved. This study is meaningful in that the chicken-rearing activity proved to be effective for the character, emotion and self-esteem of middle school students and prepared an experimental case study for developing an animal-assisted education program based on chicken-rearing activity. It is expected to be useful as basic data of animal-assisted education for adolescents in school.

The participants were 192 junior students who signed a consent form with an explanation of the study. Data were obtained from the students on the first day of junior's first semester and the last day of junior's first and second semester. Data analysis was performed using the number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-square test, t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA through the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. Results showed that nursing students with high nursing satisfaction had higher critical thinking disposition than those with lower nursing satisfaction (F=4.57, p=.012). There were no significant differences according to time (F=0.20, p=.821). The clinical performance was not significantly different according to nursing satisfaction (F=1.08, p=.343) and time (F=1.58, p=.210). This means that increasing nursing satisfaction would be a strategy for increasing the critical thinking disposition that was the core competency of nursing students.
