  • Measurements of flame length, width and NOx emissions have been conducted to investigate the effect of an acoustic excitation on flame structure in turbulent hydrogen diffusion flames with coaxial air. The resonance frequency of oscillations was varied between 259 ,514 and 728 Hz with power rate of 0.405 and 2.88w. When these frequencies imposed to hydrogen flames, dramatic reduction of flame length and NOx emission was achieved. And acetone planar laser-induced fluorescence technique was used to measure a concentration of the near field of driven axisymmetric jet. The air-fuel stoichiometric line was plotted to investigate the mixing layer and development of air entrainment to fuel jet. Consequently, acoustic excitation on flame could enhance the air-fuel mixing resulting in abatement of NOx emission quantitatively.

  • A damage identification technique using static displacements was investigated to assess the structural integrity of bridge structures. For this, the optimization technique was utilized. In this study, structural damage was represented by the reduction in the stiffness of an element. Next, a health index of the element was introduced to estimate the stiffness reduction of the bridge under consideration. Comparisons with numerical and experimental tests were performed to investigate the applicability of the proposed method in the practical field. Various damage scenarios were considered by varying damage-width as well as damage-degree. The influence of noise on the damage identification scheme was also investigated numerically. Finally, the applicability and the limitation of the proposed method' were discussed.

Post-earthquake capacity evaluation of R/C buildings based on pseudo-dynamic tests

  • In this paper, post-earthquake capacity evaluation method of reinforced concrete buildings was studied. Substructure pseudo-dynamic test and static loading test of first story column in a four-story R/C building was carried out in order to investigate the validity of the evaluation method proposed in the Damage Assessment Guideline (JBDPA 2001). In pseudo-dynamic test, different levels of damage were induced in the specimens by pre-loading, and input levels of seismic motion, at which the specimens reached to the ultimate stage, were examined. From the experimental result, no significant difference in damage levels such as residual crack width between the specimens under static and pseudo-dynamic loading was found. It is shown that the seismic capacity reduction factors ${\eta}$ can provide a reasonable estimation of post-earthquake seismic capacity of R/C buildings suffered earthquakes.

종골 골절의 치료-광범위 외측 접근법 (Calcaneal Fractures-Extended Lateral Approach)

  • Calcaneus is largest tarsal bone and the fracture of calcaneus is most common tarsal fractures. Calcaneal fractures are divided into extra-articular and intra-articular fractures. Intra-articular calcaneal fractures could be classified as tongue type and joint depression type using simple lateral radiograph (Essex-Lopresti classification), but Sanders suggested new classification according to involving the posterior facet of calcaneus using computed tomography. The involvement of posterior facet was revealed as more complicated than Essex-Lopresti classification. The principle purpose of treatment of calcaneal fractures are restoration of calcaneal height (B$\ddot{o}$hler angle), width, axis, anatomical reduction of joint and restoration of function through the stable fixation. Good visualization of joint and anatomical reduction could be achieved by extended lateral approach. But, skin problem could be occurred after of extended lateral approach.

HIGH RESOLUTION NEAR-INFRARED SPECTRA OF NEARBY QUASAR, PG1426+015

  • We observed low-z quasar PG1426+015 (z=0.086), using the near-IR high resolution echelle spectrometer, IRCS, at the SUBARU 8.2 m telescope. Using an Adoptive Optics system, the full width at half maximum of the point spread function was about 0.3 arcsec, which can effectively separate the quasar spectra from the host galaxy spectra. We also maximize the total exposure time up to several hours per target, and develop data reduction methods to increase the signal-to-noise ratios. This poster presents the data reduction processes and sample spectra from the quasar and its host galaxy. These spectral lines will be used to study the physical mechanism of quasars, and the velocity dispersions of the stars in the bugle of the host galaxy.

  • The reduction of chopping noise generated from inverter compressor and the piping design reducing vibration are the most important items in the quality of air conditioner. The chopping noise is identified by the study of the relationship between carrier frequency and natural frequency of the compressor shell. The high carrier frequency is the key factor in reduction of carrier noise. To keep the natural frequencies of the system as far as away from the operating frequencies appears to be the most important factor in the design of piping system.

  • A turbo-fan for the 4-way cassette indoor units of air-conditioners has been investigated. The main purpose of this investigation is the reduction of the turbo-fan noise. In order to reduce the noise level, many design parameters of turbo-fans such as blade section, blade thickness, geometry of blade leading edge, blade width, blade angle and bellmouth depth have been studied. With the experimental data of these parameters, a new turbo-fan was made for our system. The noise level of the new system was at least 3 dB(A) lower than that of the current in use.

  • Much attention has been given to EMI effects created in variable speed ac drive system. Zero switching states of inverter control invoke large common mode voltage. This paper focuses on the switching techniques to mitigate common mode voltage. This paper proposes a common-mode voltage reduction method based on sinusoidal pulse width modulation in three phase PWM inverter system. By using three carriers wave displaced by 120 degrees, it is possible to eliminate a common mode voltage pulse In one control period. Simulation and experimental results show that common mode voltages In the proposed technique are reduced more than conventional technique.

  • RPWM(Random Pulse Width Modulation) is a switching technique to spread the voltage and current harmonics on the wide frequency area. Using randomly changed switching frequency of the inverter, the power spectrum of the electromagnetic acoustic noise cab be spread to the wide-band area. The wide-band noise is much more comfortable and less annoying than the narrow-band one. So RPWM have been attracting an interest as an excellent method for the reduction of acoustic noise on the inverter drive system. In this paper a new RPPWM (Random Position PWM) is proposed and implemented. Each of three pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. Along with the randomization of PWM pulses, the space vector modulation is executed in the C167 microcontroller also. The experimental results show that the voltage and current harmonics were spread to wide band area and that the audible switching noise was reduced by proposed RPPWM method.

  • This paper proposes a simple unity power factor zero-voltage-transition (ZVT) pulse-width-modulated (PWM) single-phase rectifier, which features reduced switching and conduction losses. The switching loss reduction is achieved by a simple auxiliary commutation circuit, and the conduction loss reduction is achieved by employing a single-stage converter, rather than a typical double-stage converter comprising of a front-end rectifier and a boost rectifier. Furthermore, thanks to good features such as a simple PWM control at constant frequency, low switch stress, low Var rating of commutation circuits, and simple power circuit structure, it is suitable for high power applications. The principles of operation are explained in detail, and a major characteristics analysis and the experimental results of the new converter are also included in this paper.
