Wideband Design of Cylindrical Monopole with Traveling-Wave Current Distribution (진행파 전류분포에 의한 원통형 모노폴의 광대역화 설계)

  • Cylindrical monopole antenna is one of most promising candidates for multi-band applications such as PCS, WLAN, DMB, and UWB wireless services. In this research, we analyze the current distributions of operating modes for a cylindrical double-resonant monopole antenna. Two modes, the standing wave mode in a lower band and the traveling wave mode in a higher band, are identified from CST software simulations. Finally, design formulas are derived form the simulation results.

  • In this paper, a novel wideband crossed planar monopole antenna with the multiple resonance characteristics is proposed. The proposed monopole antenna can be designed by a wideband crossed planar monopole antenna with L-shaped slits. In order to generate multiple resonance characteristics on the proposed monopole antenna, the length of L-shaped slit and the number of L-shaped slits are determined at an interesting frequency. The proposed antenna having an omnidirectional radiation pattern and a high gain over the multiple resonance frequency bands, respectively, is suitable for a mobile antenna.

  • In this paper, a novel wideband crossed planar monopole antenna with the double resonance characteristics is proposed. The proposed monopole antenna consists of a wideband crossed planar monopole antenna and L-shaped slits. In order to generate double resonance characteristics on the proposed monopole antenna, the length of L-shaped slit on the antenna surface is obtained from the quarter-wavelength of the second resonance frequency The double resonance characteristics of the proposed antenna can be easily designed by the control of length of L shaped slit at an interesting frequency. The proposed antenna having an omnidirectional radiation pattern and a high gain over the double resonance frequency bands, respectively, is suitable for mobile multiband antenna.

The Design of Wideband Printed Saw Tooth Monopole Antenna (광대역 기판 인쇄형 톱날구조를 갖는 모노폴 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a printed monopole antenna called the saw tooth monopole antenna(STMA) with a very wide band. And impedance matching of the antenna for the wideband is achieved using a special matching structure to vary ground size of back plate. The proposed antenna is smaller than general $\lambda$/4 monopole antenna in size but provides a 2:1 VSWR bandwidth of about $89.6\%$. The radiation pattern is omni-directional at 0.8 GHz$\~$2.0 GHz with gain of about -0.02 dBi$\~$2.54 dBi.

  • We propose a folded monopole antenna with loads, and analyze the roles of design parameters which affect the return loss of the proposed antenna. VSWR < 3 bandwidth of the antenna is 30 ~ 2000 MHz, ranging from the HF/VHF/UHF bands. For operating travelling antenna, we connect six loads at the end of the antenna. The reflected wave is drastically reduced due to the six loads. For improved return loss properties, we use Klopfenstein tape that determine positions and values of six loads. The propose antenna has omni-directional radiational patterns like that of conventional monopole antennas. For wideband impedance transformation, we use the balun which operating frequency region is 10 ~ 1900 MHz. We expect the proposed antenna has important role for the wideband and multi-rold multi-functional communication systems.

A Planar Reversed-Triangle Monopole Antenna for UWB Communication (UWB 통신을 위한 평판 역삼각형 모노폴 안테나)

  • In this paper, we proposed a planar reversed triangle monopole antenna for UWB(Ultra Wideband) communication. RF-60A substrate of 0.64 mm thickness and 6.15 relative permitivity and 0.035 mm conductor of thickness and loss tangent 0.0025 is used for implementation. We have used Ansoft $HFSS^{TM}$(High Frequency Structure Simulator) to simulate the proposed antenna. The proposed antenna showed return losses about -10 dB, nearly omni-directional radiation patterns and maximum gains are over -5 dBi at the frequency band from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz for ultra wide band communication.

Design of wideband microstrip monopole slot antenna (광대역 마이크로스트립 모노폴 슬롯안테나의 설계)

  • In the present study, wideband microstrip monopole slot antennas which can be applied to the RF4CE Zigbee remote controller are designed. First I-shaped monopole slot antenna which has ${\lambda}g/4$ length at 2.45GHz is designed. In particular, a conducting via is used to connect the microstrip feed line and the ground plane surrounded with the etched slot for the bandwidth improvement. In order to reduce the antenna size, it is changed into L-shaped and T-shaped monopole slot antennas for which improve results of antenna performance are observed. In case of T-shaped monopole slot antenna, impedance bandwidth(VSWR<2) is about 3.32GHz, and also its radiation efficiency and gain is more than 90% and 2.1dBi respectively at whole operating frequency range. In particular, all of proposed monopole slot antennas have the end-fire radiations which has a maximum radiation power toward direction of open ends of monopole slots.

  • This paper designed a wideband, high gain planar trapezoidal monopole antenna using backside frequency selective surface (FSS) according to the need for wideband and high gain antenna required in various fields such as rapidly increasing wireless communication, autonomous vehicles, 5G wireless communication and wideband applications. The proposed antenna uses a dual metallic to have a structural difference from the existing FSS. By solving the complexity of the design antenna using genetic algorithms (GA) and high frequency structural simulators (HFSS) simulations, the proposed antenna is not only produce a high efficiency but also presents a wide bandwidth of 3.52 to 5.92 GHz and a gain of 10.5 dBi over the entire bandwidth, with the highest gain of 11.8 dBi at 5.1 GHz. It has been confirmed that the gain increased 8.6 dBi as the 36% impedance bandwidth of 1.8 GHz compared to the existing antenna improved to the 50% impedance bandwidth of 2.4 GHz.

A Printed, Wideband Folded Monopole Antenna Coupling with a Parasitic Inverted-L Element for Bluetooth, WiMAX and UWB Systems (Bluetooth, WiMAX, UWB 시스템용 역 L형 무급전 소자 결합 프린트형 광대역 폴디드 모노폴 안테나)

  • This paper presents a printed, wideband folded monopole antenna for laptop and tablet computer applications. The proposed antenna is designed to cover bandwidth(2.3~10.6 GHz) of Bluetooth, WiMAX, and UWB system by using the printed folded monopole antenna having asymmetrical line width coupling with a parasitic inverted- L element. Also, wireless LAN band(5.15~5.85 GHz) which interferes with UWB system is rejected by inserting half-wavelength open stub in the folded monopole antenna. -10 dB bandwidth of the fabricated wideband antenna is 2.27~10.6 GHz (4.7:1) and -10 dB band-rejected bandwidth is measured as 700 MHz(5.15~5.85 GHz, 12.72 %). The gain and efficiency of the antenna except for the rejected band are higher than 3.93 dBi and 91.89 % and are measured as -2 dBi and 14.65 % at 5.5 GHz which is band-rejected frequency. The size of the antenna is suitable to install for small space of tablet and laptop computers as 12.75(1 ${\lambda}$/10)${\times}$12(1 ${\lambda}$/11) $mm^2$(${\lambda}$ is free space wavelength at 2.3 GHz). Therefore, we verified that the designed antenna is appropriate for wideband antenna of tablet and laptop PC applications.

Design of Rectangular Planar Monopole Antenna with a Double Sleeve (이중 슬리브를 갖는 직사각형 평면 모노폴 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a wideband antenna accomplished by adding a double sleeve of a rectangular planar monopole structure is proposed. In order to impedance matching of proposed antenna, the antenna performance was improved by adding two gap sleeves and outer sleeve for double sleeve structure. HFSS simulator of ANSYS corp. was used in order to confirm the antenna parameter characteristic. According to the simulation results, the VSWR was less than 2 for the range of 2.5GHz~10.5GHz. The frequency bandwidth is 8GHz. The frequency range of the actual fabricated antenna was 2.92GHz~10.32GHz, the frequency bandwidth is 7.4GHz. The measured radiation pattern frequency is 3GHz, 6GHz and 9GHz. The results are similar with dipole antenna pattern in all frequency. The antenna size is $40{\times}40mm^2$. The utilization possibility of the ultra-wideband planar monopole antenna could be confirmed according to compare and analyze the simulation and measurement data.
