WCDMA Simulator Engine for 3G Wireless Network

  • Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) is one of the air interface techniques proposed for the third generation (3G) mobile communication system. WCDMA was selected because it fulfills the IMT-2000 requirements for higher data rate trans mission, support of multimedia capabilities and other flexible services due to its variable bit rates and larger bandwidth, improved capacity and coverage, efficient power control and support for advanced and improved detector structures. Performance evaluation of 3G wireless network through simulation plays an important role in the design and implementation of the actual system, aiding the wireless system designer by providing them the necessary performance conformance statistics prior to implementation. In accordance with this goal, a simulator engine was developed entirely on a MATLAB platform to emulate the behaviour of the WCDMA air interface for both the uplink and downlink in a real world fading mobile environment. This paper discuss the development of the simulator along with a brief description of its functionalities and user interface. The WCDMA air interface mode focused in this paper is in accordance to the 3GPPs frequency division duplex (FDD) mode and restricted to the physical layer description. Performance results for the selected cases for the downlink, uplink, varying mobile velocity and sampling rates are also provided.

Isolation Enhancement of Internal MIMO Antenna

  • In this paper, we proposed and evaluated the performance of an internal MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) antenna for multiband operations including LTE (Long Term Evolution) 700/2300/2500. And to enhance the isolation characteristic, a parasitic element is designed and applied. The proposed single antenna has a volume of $60mm(W){\times}38mm(L)$, and the ground plane is $60mm(W){\times}100mm(L)$. The parasitic element used for enhancing the isolation of the antenna was designed with a copper on FR4 sized $60mm(W){\times}20mm(L){\times}1.6mm(H)$, and the pattern size is $60mm(W){\times}15mm(L)$. Simulated and measured results showed that LTE 700/2300/2500, DCS (Digital Cellular Service: 1710-1880MHz), K-PCS (Korea-Personal Communication Service: 1750-1870MHz), US-PCS (US-Personal Communication Service: 1850-1990MHz), WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access: 1920-2170MHz), Wibro (2300-2390MHz), Bluetooth (2400-2483MHz), WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network: 2400-2483.5MHz), US-WiMAX (US-World interoperability for Microwave Access: 2400-2590MHz) frequency bands were covered with $S_{11}$ values less than -6dB (VSWR < 3). Simulated and measured results on $S_{21}$ at 730MHz for the firstly designed MIMO antenna showed -5.50dB and -5.65dB, respectively. When with the parasitic element at the separated ground plane to enhance the isolation performance, -10.33dB and -12.90dB are obtained for the simulation and measurement, so the enhanced isolation performance at lower frequency band (617-867MHz) is confirmed.

세포 실험용 다중 주파수 동시 노출 장치 제작 (Fabrication of Multiple-Frequency Exposure System for In Vitro Experiment)

  • 최근 이동 통신 서비스의 증가로 인해 인류는 다양한 전자파에 동시 노출되어 있다. 그러나 전자파의 인체 영향 연구는 주로 단일 주파수에 대해서 행해졌다. 본 논문에서는 다중 주파수의 전자파를 동시에 노출시킬 수 있는 세포 실험 장치를 제작하였다. 세포 실험 장치는 836.5 MHz 주파수의 CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) 및 1,950 MHz의 WCDMA(Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) 주파수의 신호를 동시에 발생시킬 수 있도록 광대역 특성을 갖는 radial transmission line 형으로 구성하였다. 변조된 신호는 증폭기, 디지털 감쇄기, RF 결합기를 통하여 원추형 안테나로 전달된다. SAR(Specific Absorption Rate)값은 광학 온도 프로브를 이용하여 petri dish 내 9개 지점에 대하여 3회 측정한 평균값을 이용하여 측정하였다. 측정된 안테나의 반사 손실은 -15dB 이하였고, 단위 입력 전력당 SAR 평균과 표준 편차는 CDMA 주파수에서 $0.105{\pm}0.019$ W/kg, WCDMA 주파수에서 $0.262{\pm}0.055$ W/kg이었다.

WCDMA시스템에서 간섭제거기를 적용한 통화권 분석에 관한 연구 (Study on Coverage Analysis using Interference Cancellation in WCDMA System)

  • 본 논문에서는 간섭제거기(IC: Interference Cancellation or MUD; Multi-User Detector)를 적용한 WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access)방식 의 비동기식 IMT(International Mobile Telecommunication)-2000 시스템에서 역방향 링크의 통화권에 대해 분석하였다. 간섭제거기는 역방향 링크의 통화권 확장을 위해 사용되었으며, 시스템 용량과 통화권의 관계를 대수-정규(log-normal)분포의 전파음영 환경에서 경로손실과 전파음영감쇠를 포함하는 전파손실모델 및 간섭의 영향을 고려하였다. 간섭량은 정량 산출이 어렵기 때문에 본 논문에서는 전체 셀의 간섭 대 내부 셀의 간섭비를 이용하였다. 간섭제거기를 사용하여 다중접속간섭(MAI; Multiple Access Interference)의 제거를 통한 시스템의 성능향상을 비교 분석하기 위해 간섭제거기 효율($\beta$)을 이용하였다. 모의실험은 실제 무선전파환경에 근접한 전파예측 모델인 Hata모델을 이용하여 반송파 주파수 800 MHz와 1900 MHz에서 음성서비스와 데이터서비스의 전송속도(bit rate)에 따라 동일한 대역폭(3.84 MHz)에서의 통화권을 분석하고, 내부셀에 간섭제거기를 적용하여, 용량 및 통화권의 성능을 비교 분석하여 실제 시스템에서의 성능을 예측하였다.

IoT-based Guerrilla Sensor with Mobile Web for Risk Reduction

  • In case that limited resources can be mobilized, non-structural countermeasures such as 'monitoring using Information and Communication Technology might be one of solutions to mitigate disaster risks. Having established the monitoring system, operational and maintenance costs to maximize the effectiveness might trouble the authority concerned or duty attendant who is in charge. In this respect, "Guerrilla Sensor" would be very cost effective because of the inherent mobility characteristic. The sensor device with the IRIS camera and GPS (Global Positioning System) equipped, is basically battery-operated and communicates with WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access). It has a strong advantage of capabilities for 'Disaster Response' with immediate and prompt action on the spot, making the best use of IoT (Internet of Things), especially with the mobile web. This paper will explain how the sensor system works in real-time GIS (Geographic Information System) pinpointing the exact location of the abnormal movement/ground displacement and notifying the registered users via SMS (Short Message Service). Real time monitoring with early warning and evaluation of current situations with LBS (Location Based Service), live image and data information can help to reduce the disaster impact. Installation of Guerrilla sensor for a real site application at Gimcheon, South Korea is also reported.

  • 본 논문에서는 WCDMA단말기 직접변환 수신기에서 DC 오프셋 발생원인과 DC 오프셋에 의한 시스템 성능열화에 대해 언급하고, QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying)변조 방식에서 DC오프셋 값에 의한 성능 열화를 시뮬레이션을 통해 확률 오류에 대한 $E_{b}/N_{o}$ 값으로 나타내었다. DC 오프셋 제어 회로를 추가한 단말기 직접변환 RF 트랜시버 보드를 구현하여 WCDMA(Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) 테스트 베드를 구축하고, DC 오프셋 변화량에 따른 복조기 수신 성능을 $E_{c}/I_{o}$ 값을 이용하여 평가 및 분석하였다. 분석 및 시스템 시험 결과를 통해 시스템 성능열화 방지를 위한 DC 오프셋 관련 최소 성능 요구규격을 제시하였다.

  • In this paper, we proposed an internal multiband loop embedded monopole antenna for mobile handset that could be used for smart phones. The proposed antenna has a volume of 40 mm(W) ${\times}$ 15 mm(L) ${\times}$ 5 mm(H), ground plane size is 40 mm(W) ${\times}$ 80 mm(L), and covers the GSM900 (Global System for Mobile communications : 880-960 MHz), K-PCS (Korea-Personal Communications Service : 1750-1870 MHz), US-PCS (US Personal Communications Service : 1850-1990 MHz), WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access : 1920-2170 MHz), Wibro (2300-2390 MHz), Bluetooth (2400-2483 MHz) and WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network : 2400-2483.5 MHz) bands for VSWR (voltage standing wave ration) less than 3. The proposed loop adding design at middle section of longest branch showed wide impedance bandwidth for the lowest resonance frequency band. The proposed antenna have a lowest resonance frequency band from 738 MHz to 1075 MHz for S11 value of -6dB. A HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) of the Ansys Corporation based on a finite element method is employed to analyze the proposed antenna in the design process and to compare the simulation and experimental results.

Effects of Drain Bias on Memory-Compensated Analog Predistortion Power Amplifier for WCDMA Repeater Applications

  • This paper represents the effects of drain bias on the linearity and efficiency of an analog pre-distortion power amplifier(PA) for wideband code division multiple access(WCDMA) repeater applications. For verification, an analog predistorter(APD) with three-branch nonlinear paths for memory-effect compensation is implemented and a class-AB PA is fabricated using a 30-W Si LOMaS. From the measured results, at an average output power of 33 dBm(lO-dB back-off power), the PA with APD shows the adjacent channel leakage ratio(ACLR, ${\pm}$5 MHz offset) of below -45.1 dBc, with a drain efficiency of 24 % at the drain bias voltage($V_{DD}$) of 18 V. This compared an ACLR of -36.7 dEc and drain efficiency of 14.1 % at the $V_{DD}$ of 28 V for a PA without APD.

Home range and movement of juvenile black-faced spoonbill Platalea minor in South Korea

  • This study was conducted to clarify the size of the home range and movement distance of juvenile black-faced spoonbills from post-fledging until fall migration using a Global Positioning System (GPS)-wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA)-based telemetry system along the west coast of South Korea. The home range of juvenile black-faced spoonbills (n = 3) was $45.2km^2$ in size and the core area consisted of $8.4km^2$ within the Baeksu mudflat, Yeonggwang, South Jeolla Province, South Korea. Mean weekly movement distances were not significantly different (Kruskal-Wallis test, Z = 3.47, P = 0.18) among individuals, ranging from 0.1 to 23.9 km during the study period. The home range and movement of juvenile black-faced spoonbills were related to intertidal areas, especially to their use as feeding areas.

WCDMA 네트워크에서의 일치관리 최적화 모형 (Optimization Model for Location Management in WCDMA Networks)

  • This study deals with the location management in WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) networks. The new location management method is the one of the many techniques used to provide the packet switched (PS) services effectively in WCDMA networks. WCDMA introduces RA (routing area) for the PS services in addition to LA (location area) for the circuit switched (CS) services. WCDMA system also adopts the cooperative paging and the combined area update which are to decrease signaling traffic using the PS network resources for the CS services. Considering the characteristics of the WCDMA networks, this study formulate into the mathematical programming problem for the location management. Rather than the existing researches which consider the single MSC/SGSN networks, we deal with the multi MSC/SGSN networks, where both MSC area and SGSN area should be determined as well. Fairness between traffic loads of MSC/SGSN and the system cost incurred to MSC/SGSN are also incorporated into our model, which make the model more realistic. We propose greedy algorithms for the problems, which consists of the merger of two neighboring areas and the movement of an area. Extensive experiment has been done based on the realistic problem examples. Followed by the analysis of parameter effect on the final solutions and the quality of final solutions obtained by our greedy algorithms. Our proposed model and analysis result can be used to determine WCDMA system areas and to predict the system performance measures by the determination.
