Silica wet gels were prepared ken water glass ($29\;wt%\;SiO_{2}$) by using Amberlite as a ion exchange resin. After washing in distilled water, the wet gels were further aged in a solution of TEOS/EtOH to strengthen of 3-dimensional network structure. As increase TEOS content in aging solution, BET surface area and porosity of the ambient dried silica aerogels were significantly decreased, and average pore diameter was also decreased 30 nm to -10 nm. Also, higher density and compressive strength were obtained in case of higher TEOS content. This is due to precipitation of $SiO_{2}$ nano particles by TEOS. Hence, TEOS addition plays an important role of both strengthening and stiffness of silica wet gel network. By adding over 30 vol% TEOS, a crack-free monolithic silica aerogel tiles were obtained and its density, compressive strength, and thermal conductivity were shown $0.232g/cm^{3}$, 7.3 MPa, and 0.029 W/mk, respectivly.
Acc I endonuclease has been isolated from 300g (wet weight) cells of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus. The cells were broken by using French press at 20, 000p.s.i. After ammonium sulfate fractionation, the enzyme was further purified by heparin agarose, DEAE-sephades, Affi.-gel Blue, phosphocellulose, and hydroxylapatite column chromatography. The purified Acc I endonudlease has a single polypeptide species and its subunit molecular weight was 45,000 ${\pm}$ 1,000 daltons as judged by 10% SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The isolated enzyme was essentially free of contaminating nucleases as judged by homochromatography by using a $^{32}P-labeled$ oligonucleotide. The enzyme showed maximum activity at pH values between 8.0 and 11.0 and in the presence of $MgCl_2$. Acc I endonuclease was maximally active in the absence of NaCl and was completely inhibited at 200 mM NaCl.
The synthesis behavior of nanoporous silica aerogel in the macroporous ceramic structure was observed using TEOS as a source material and glycerol as a dry control chemical additive (DCCA). Silica aerogel in the macroporous ceramic structure was synthesized via sono-gel process using hexamethyldiazane (HMDS) as a modification agent and n-hexane as a main solvent. The wet gel with a modified surface was dried at $105^{\circ}C$ under ambient pressure. The addition of glycerol appears to give the wet gel a more homogeneous microstructure. However, glycerol also retarded the rate of surface modification and solvent exchange. Silica aerogel completely filled the macroporous ceramic structure without defect in the condition of surface modification (20% HMDS/nhexane at 36hr).
The physicochemical characteristics and oxidative stability of wet-aged and dry-aged pork cuts were investigated at different aging periods (1, 7, 14 and 21 d). Samples were assigned into four groups in terms of shoulder blade-wet aging (SW), shoulder blade-dry aging (SD), belly-wet aging (BW), and belly-dry aging (BD). SD showed significantly higher pH at 21 d of aging than the other samples. Wet-aged cuts had significantly higher released water (RW) %, lightness ($L^*$) and shear force compared to the dry-aged meats. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) analysis showed greater degradation of proteins for dry-aged cuts than the wet-aged cuts. At the end of aging, wet-aged cuts showed significantly lower thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) value than the dry-aged samples, indicating higher oxidative stability for wet-aged pork cuts. However, dry-aging led to higher degradation of proteins resulting in increased water-holding capacity (WHC) and decreased shear force value.

Neat chlorosulfonic acid reacts with silica gel to give silica sulfuric acid in which sulfuric acid is immobilized on the surface of silica gel via covalent bond. A combination of silica sulfuric acid and wet SiO$_2$ was used as an effective deacetalizating agent for the conversion of acetals to their corresponding carbonyl derivatives by using microwave irradiation under solvent free conditions.
To fabricate a (100) silicon hard master, we used anisotropic wet etching for the embossing. The etching chemical for the silicon wafer was a TMAH 25$\%$ solution. The anisotropic wet etching produces a smooth sidewall surface inclined at 54.7°, and the surface roughness of the fabricated master is about 1 nm. After spin coating an organic-inorganic sol-gel hybrid resin on a silicon substrate, we used the fabricated master to form patterns on the silicon substrate. Thus, we successfully obtained patterns via the hot embossing technique with the (100) silicon hard master. Moreover, by using a single hydrophobic surface treatment of the master, we succeeded in achieving uniform surface roughness of the embossed patterns for more than ten embossments.
Curdlan gel containing various hydrophobic materials was prepared. The homogenized suspension of curdlan and hydrophobic materials was healed at $100^{\circ}C$. The curdlan gel can contain hydrophobic material up to 27%(v/v). When gel was compressed, only water in the gel was removed. When immersed in water, the dried gel absorbed water and became the original wet gel. The syneresis of gel decreased with the concentration of hydrophobic material added. DHA content of dried gel was about 90%. $\beta$-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes containing DHA were prepared with addition of water and ethanol. X-ray diffractograms of complexes showed a specific peak at 7-$8^{\circ}C$ and FT-IR spectrum of complex showed a specific C=O peak at $1745\textrm{cm}^{-1}$. Inclusion complex containing DHA was microcapsulated with curdlan and pullulan.
Herein, macroporous carbon materials were readily prepared by carbonization of cured body of resorcinol and formaldehyde using poly(methyl methacrylate) colloid microspheres which were employed as the template in the gelation of resorcinol with formaldehyde. The gel in the water was solvent exchanged with methanol and the wet gel was dried. After carbonization of the template-gel composite at $800^{\circ}C$, it was found that pores were left corresponding to the size of the template, yielding carbon materials with a fine porous structure with enlarged surface area and significant porosity. Properties of the carbon foams including the structure, morphology, thermal stability, and porosity were investigated. Finally, it was concluded that the method using polymer colloids as the template provided a facile route to prepare carbon foams.
Pyrophyllite, which has low impurities, was used in the synthesis of mullite to decrease the glass phase, which can be formed from impurities such as alkali and alkali earth elemetns present in raw materials. But, as pyrophyllite has less alumina content than other aluminosilicate materials such as kaolin, more alumina sources were needed in the synthesis of mullite. In other to investigate the effect of particle size of alumina sources on the mullitization of pyrophyllite, aluminum hydrate gel and activated alumina were used. When activated alumina, which has large particle size, was added to pyrophyllite, mullitization was not fully accomplished regardless of temprature. In the case of aluminum hydrate gel, which has small particle size, the maximum yield of mullite was about 90.3% at 1700$^{\circ}C$, and grain size of mullite was larter than the case of activated alumina was added.

This study was conducted to determine the minimum concentration of citrus juice for basal medium and also to search for an additional carbon source for the best production of the gel. A concentrate of citrus fruit juice of 65$^{\circ}$Brix, it was diluted to be used as a basal medium. Static cultivation of Gluconacetobacter hansenii TL-2C for 14 days at 3$0^{\circ}C$ produced the best gel with 7.5$\pm$0.4 mm thickness in the 6-fold diluted citrus Juice concentrate without any additional nutrient. However, the same thickness could be obtained with 60 to 100-fold diluted juice concentrate when refined white sugar was added at appropriate concentrations. Glucose was the most effective sugar for the both of gel and acid production, and optimal concentration of the sugar was 10$^{\circ}$Brix. Ethyl alcohol at 1.0% had synergistic effects in combination with refined sugar and increased the gel thickness up to 15.1 mm which was 1.85 times thicker than that of refined sugar alone. However, acetic acid was not effective. Gel productivity with supplement of ethanol was 172.6$\pm$8.4 g wet/L, and it was approximately equal to 4.7 g of dry gel/L.
