  • According to "Dongeuibogam(東醫寶鑑)", "the Shinnong Herb Bible(神農本草經)", "Chamdonggo(參同攷)", come to the conclusion about medical thought of "the Zhouyi Cantongxie(周易參同契)". Alchemy is a common field both on the eastern and western civilization, but a process of development is different. Ancient chinese alchemist made a study on external alchemy, but harmful consequences of external alchemy was consecutive, many scholars had turned their interest on internal alchemy which is related in human meridian biology and spirit. In the western alchemy has developed to make a study on analytic psychology and science of religion. Most importantly, the eastern and western alchemy have something in common what at the point of the perfection of self is similar, but the name is different, for example in the eastern alchemy we can be immortals and take a spiritual enlightenment with the elixir of life, in the western we can take a cure of souls as a christian. As for internal alchemy, "Cantongxie(參同契)" gives influence to the theories such as the theory of danjeon(lower part of the abdomen), evolution, aging, and life nurturing. Especially, the theory of danjeon shows such merit for studying since it is similar to triple energizers(三焦) and the theory of qi street(氣街) of oriental medicine. The study on "Cantongxie(參同契)" was achieved in Korea too, especially Chosun dynasty. "Candongkao (參同攷)" by Seo Myung-eung(徐命膺, 1716~1787) are representative. According to "Candongkao(參同攷)", Geon(乾), Gon(坤), Gam(坎), and Ri(離), the four trigrams for divination, each are affiliated with lungs, spleen, kidneys, and heart. Nowadays the study on alchemy correspond with modern trends, which are anti-aging and living without any disease. If processed mineral drugs is assured for stability, it can be used for incurable diseases such as cancer.

Since the society becomes more complexed and the tensions among social members gets intensified, psychological factor getting more important. In Oriental medicine, Seven Emotion(七情, in oriental medical term) as an emotional stressor was thought to be a factor of obesity. Therefore the purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between Seven Emotion and obesity in detail. Methods : overview the stress with the view of Oriental medicine and research the relationship between Seven Emotion as an emotional stressor and obesity. Results : 1. Seven Emotion can be understood as an emotional stress in Western medicine. If Seven Emotion is excessive, its extreme mental stimulation causes physical illness. 2. Having influence upon the function of internal organs, excessive Seven Emotion causes obesity. Since it hinders normal flow of Gangi(肝氣), Seven Emotion disturbs healthy function of Bi-Wi(脾胃) and normal fluctuation of Qi. Consequently, obesity is resulted from the accumulation of fat since normal metabolism of body is disrupted. 3. In Seven Emotion-Anger(怒), Joy(喜), Anxiety(憂), Thought(思), Sorrow(悲), Fear(恐), Surprise(驚)-give rise to Gan-bi-bul-wha(肝脾不和), Sim-hi-yang-huh(心脾兩虛), Bi-qi-huh(碑氣虛), Dam-sup-jeo-po(痰濕沮胞) and Wi-wha-sang-youm(胃火上炎) in type of symptom in obesity and therefore, cause obesity.

Current problems of public health in Korea and the world 1) Increase of diseases resulted from daily habits and infectious diseases, many are at the brink of being ill. Quality of life from extended life span and unbalanced health care must be solved. 2) Natural and societal factors including host factors, public health service, and other external and internal factors play an important role in deciding healthy and being ill. 3) Some of the limits and problems of modem medicine include insufficient academic knowledge and incomplete theory, as well as misled approach to the treatment. Human itself isn't perfect organism and other realistic problems hinder one's well-being. 4) Regardless of western medicine or Oriental medicine, patients were approached as someone with diseases and disorders, and wholistic approach was disregarded. Lack of clinical training, absence of clear educational philosophy and goal are some of the reasons why the education isn't under concrete system 2. Important factors for the medical education and proper direction for the education of Oriental medicine 1) Important factors for medical education - Education should not be limited on the human health and illness, but also cover qualities such as well-being, social welfare, service, and happiness. Every aspects of human life must be considered and attended for more productive outcome. - Basic understanding of humanity must be included in the educational curriculum - Foundation of human diseases and pain are associated with inner life and surrounding causes including family, society, nature, race, culture, religion, politics, and etc., thus the education must be approached to recognize aforementioned criteria. 2) Proper direction for the education of Oriental medicine - Values of Oriental medicine for medical principles and importance of lifehood must be educated. - Educational goal, limits, and levels must be established for the school of Oriental medicine - Respect for life must be the top priorities of educational direction which should lead to solution based education for the human health. Latest medical theory and technology should be accommodated as well as prevention, treatment, and balancing of basic courses and clinical training for optimal education.

  • I found following idea, as a result of researching his Science idea, mainly, by translation of the "$Zh\bar{a}ng$ xi $ch\acute{u}n$ $Xu\acute{e}$ $Sh\acute{u}$ ssu $hsi\acute{a}ng$ "(張錫純 學術硏究). $Zh\bar{a}ng$ xi $ch\acute{u}n$ regarded $ch\tilde{u}ng$ $ch\bar{u}ng$ $ts'\bar{a}n$ $hs\bar{l}$' (衷中參西) as the core idea of The Chinese-Western medical combination. He didn't segregate philosophy of the West from One of the Orient. He persued to harmonize each other and thought that the Western medicint theory is included in the Chinese one in many parts. besides, He recognized that it is bad to reject each other, for the medical science's purpose is to save a life, and united The Chinese-Western medicine theory, by $ch\acute{u}ng$ $ch\tilde{u}ng$ $ch\bar{u}ng$ $ts'\bar{a}n$ $hs\bar{l}$'(衷中參西) idea which refers to consult the Western medicine on the basis of the Chinese one. Medical basic theory of $Zh\bar{a}ng$ xi $ch\acute{u}n$ brought up new views of the theory : Dae-gi(大氣), gi-Hwa(氣化) theory, Nongangubgan byung juing chi(論肝及肝病證治), Eum her chijung ja bi(陰虛治重滋脾). Lim Sangeung yong(臨床應用) of Hyul Her gub(血虛及)-Hwal Hyul Hwa $\breve{u}$ bub(活血化瘀法), on the basis of classics, such as, "$N\breve{e}i$ Ching"(內經), "Chin Kue $\breve{i}$ $y\bar{a}o$ $l\ddot{u}{\bar{e}}h$, "Shen $n\acute{u}ng$ $p\breve{e}n$ $t\acute{s}{\check{a}}o$ ching"(新農本草經) etc. I'll sum up $Zh\bar{a}ng$ xi $ch\acute{u}n's$ clinical idea now He unified Sang Han(像寒)-On Byung(溫病) with Yuk Kyung Byung Jung(六經辨證) and It was noticiable to utilize a kinds of Baek Ho Tang(白虎湯). He gave a detailed description about a method of grasp the symptoms of the cause of the internal medicine diseases and pathology and, he left abundant views of theory about using remedy and experience of clinic.

  • Meniere's disease is not a life-threatening but lift-altering inner ear disease characterized by episodic vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus and ear fullness. The etiology and pathophysiology symptoms is still disputed. Thereby the treatment of Meniere's disease is empirical. As yet no treatment has prospectively modified the clinical course of condition and thereby prevented the progressive hearing loss. We experienced two cases of Meniere's disease treated with oriental medical treatment, acupuncture and herbal medication. 15 year-old and 23 year old male patients had diagnosed Meniere's disease by western medical doctor. After treatment their vertigo is decreased and the level of hearing loss was rise up. Therefore, oriental medical treatments could be safe and effective methods.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupotomy for the treatment of patients with knee osteoarthritis. There were 9 databases searched to retrieve randomized controlled trials until August 3, 2019 regarding acupotomy versus conventional Western medicine, conventional Western medicine treatment with and without acupotomy, and Korean medicine treatment with and without acupotomy, and meta-analysis was performed. Of 303 potentially relevant studies retrieved, 43 were systematically reviewed. All studies were conducted in China. Effective rate, visual analogue scale, and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis index were used as the evaluation scales. The Ashi point was selected most frequently. In all studies, the intervention group was more effective than the control group. Meta-analysis revealed that acupotomy showed statistically significant beneficial results. Although acupotomy had a beneficial effect on knee osteoarthritis, the risk of bias of the included studies was not low. The majority of the results from the evaluation scales used were highly heterogeneous (> 50%) which reduced confidence in the estimation of effect, or had a small sample size. Further clinical research and development is required in the future.
