  • The study examined and compared relationships among self-esteem, self-efficacy, and academic achievement of children in poverty and the comparative groups. The subjects of this study were 97 elementary school students who had benefited from the free meal project and 97 students as the comparative group who did not receive the benefit. Descriptive statistics, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ tests, and multiple regression analysis were employed to analyze the data. The results showed that academic scores of the comparative group were statistically higher than those of children in the poverty group in Korean language, mathematics, science, and sociology. Also, self-esteem of children in the poverty group was lower than that of the comparative group's in terms of leadership and popularity. The poverty group also showed lower self-efficacy in self-regulated efficacy tasks. Finally, multiple regression analysis demonstrated that different sub-factors of self-esteem and self-efficacy predicted the academic achievement of children in poverty group and the comparative groups.

  • Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of treadmill gait trainig on dynamic balance and gait functions in stroke patients. Design: Randomized, double-blind, controlled pilot study. Methods: Four subjects following first stroke participated in this study. They were divided randomly into the treadmill gait trainig group (TM group) (n=2) and the control group (n=2). Subjects in both groups received general training five times per week. Subjects in the TM group practiced an additional treadmill gait trainig program that consisted of 60 minutes, three times per week, during a period of four weeks. Timed up and go test (dynamic balance) and the GAITRite test (gait function) were evaluated before and after the intervention. Results: In dynamic balance (timed up and go test), the TM group (-14.235 sec) showed a greater decrease than the control group (-13.585 sec). In gait functions, the TM group showed a greater increase in gait speed (12.8 cm/s vs. 10.15 cm/s), step-length (5.825 cm vs. 3.735 cm), and stride-length (5.005 cm vs. 1.55 cm) than the control group. Conclusions: The treadmill gait trainig improved dynamic balance and gait functions. Further research is needed in order to confirm the generalization of these findings and to identify which stroke patients might benefit from treadmill gait trainig.

Methods: This descriptive study analyzed data from 1,013 participants in a medical aid community care pilot program. Data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: The presence of mental illness, injury-related conditions, long-term care grades, and activities of daily living scores are key factors influencing the likelihood of readmission. In particular, the presence of a mental disorder or an injury-related condition increased the probability of readmission, whereas individuals with long-term care grades 1~2 showed a decreased likelihood of readmission. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the importance of enhancing the management of mental and injury-related conditions, effective utilization of long-term care services, and improvement of ADL scores to reduce readmission. These findings offer crucial insights for enhancing the efficiency of home medical care benefit programs and sustainable expansion of services.

Though the service was conducted for 13 years to improve the living environment of recipient households and create self-supporting jobs for low-income, there was a limit to ensure the efficiency due to variations in the administrative act and implementation in local governments. For that reason, the sales account and the profits of self-supporting enterprises and their cooperative in housing welfare sector that played a pivotal role had gone through many ups and downs and that is why the national coalition of self-supporting enterprises that were newly formed are forced to take self-effort and play a leading role for the improvement of future beneficiaries' satisfaction, namely to develop the level of service to keep the decent jobs consistent for low-income while responding institutional policy change and the demands for improving the home-amelioration system. Accordingly, this article has attempted to supplement existing research on housing-benefits service and determine how the field can keep pace with the new institutional environment. As a result, first, Central self-supporting enterprises provide high specialized-quality services to low-income families, second, central self-supporting enterprises induce to transition customized service agencies for improving the quality of residential housing benefits, Third, Housing self-supporting enterprises should correspondence with institutional change through the provision of explicit guidelines in relating to housing-service amelioration, the last, business practical process shall be accompanied by a consistent basis for innovative and procedural standards.
