A fishway is a structure on or around artificial and natural barriers, such as dams, locks and waterfalls, to help fishes' natural migration. In this paper, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code, termed SNUFOAM is used to analyze vertical hydraulic characteristic of rollway of fishway. Volume-of-fluid (VOF) method was used to handle free-surface. It is important to determine the factors influencing flow characteristics in fishway because fish use directional information from the flow characteristics to navigate through fishway. Fishway was modeled in 2-D and the influence of the stream velocity, slope, and weir height of fishway was tested. In results, the transition Reynolds number was $2{\times}10^5{\sim}3{\times}10^5$.
Modification of travel time is necessary in all Nakdong river basin because hydrological conditions of Nakdong river basin were changed after major rivers project. Also calculation of flood travel time at between sections of weirs is necessary. In this study, flood travel time was calculated using hydraulic model and the latest topographical data from Changnyeong-Haman weir to Nakdong river estuary bank. Analysis of discharge and stage conditions were carried out. 84 of the scenarios were organized according to flow rate, discharge type, boundary conditions, and tributary conditions. Flood travel time of initial and peak were calculated with discharge and stage conditions, respectively. The results of this study will be available in practical business work such as flood forecast warning and weir operation on algae removal.
This study presents numerical simulations of submerged jump and washed-out jump resulted from the flow over the embankment type weir. Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equations are solved with the k-𝜔 SST turbulence model. Validations are carried out using the experimental results in the literature, revealing that computed roller shape, free surface, and mean velocity are in good agreement with measured data. The volume fractions of water of the submerged jump and washed-out jump are compared, and the characteristics of the two flows from the double-averaged volume fractions of water are presented. The condition under which the transition occurs from the submerged jump to washed-out jump is presented by the relation between the relative embankment length and submergence factor via numerical simulations by changing the weir length, discharge, and tailwater depth.
A quasi-two-dimensional model for simulating the flood plain flow is developed. The model consists, in general, of a multiply-connected network which combines the main channel and two-dimensional flood plain cells. The main channel flow is described by the Saint Venant equations for one-dimensional unsteady flow, and the flood plain flow by the cell continuity and river-or weir-type stage-discharge relations between flood plain cells. The implicit algorithm for unsteady flow in looped channel network is extended to incorporate the flood plain flow. To verify the performance of the model, it is applied to three test problems, and sensitivities to various model parameters are analyzed. It turns out that the present model gives more accurate result than that by Cunge (1975) as the shape of cross section becomes more complex and irregular. Not only the inundation of water from the main channel but the return flow from the flood plain is successfully simulated.

This paper is a report on the research of experimental model test of Andong Fill Dam, which has been planned by the Government of Korea as a project, of its over-flowing capacity in spillway, creation of minus pressure and structure of anti-water impulse in over-flow weir. Andong Fill Dam is one of the project of master development plant for water resources, locating at Nakdong River side of Korea, and is aimed to have a multi-purpose dam for flood-control, irrigation, water power, urban and industrial water supply. This dam is planned to erect in fill-dam type due to the improper soil foundation and condition for concrete dam. The refore for the proper and advantageous points, this is designed as center core fill dam. By a model minimized of Andong Fill Dam, held an experimental model test on water quentity of reservir, discharges of overflow part, low pressure and anti-water impulse of overflow part, which was conducted an experiment by flowing aspects through each section of spillway to find the changes of water pressure and that of water level, and corrected the section of each part in order to conduct a check on the creation of minus pressure not to be over acted to the allowable bundary of the section structure; and for the prevention of concentated scouring at the down stream side of flow.

Cofferdam is a temporary levee or dam structure built by using sheet pile or earth materials to prevent water infiltration during construction work of bridge, dam, harbour dock, or hydraulic structures in the river. In this regard, it is required to secure cutoff ability for dry work and workability for rapid installation and removal of the temporary dam or levee structures. In this paper, case studies for design and construction of cofferdam were performed, and water diversion method was briefed with some examples of cofferdam type as well. For the case study details of design and construction were reviewed based on cofferdams under construction related to 16 submerged weirs of "The 4-river restoration project" and dam type cofferdam respectively. From the review, it was known that the method for changing the water flow is selected based on the data from geological and geo-hydraulic site investigation in order to mitigate environmental effects by making sure if the design cross-sectional area of flow and maximum working days are sufficiently guaranteed. Finally, the primary findings and main conclusion derived are summarized that determination of applicable type of cofferdam should be checked by case study and meet design requirements such as water inflow control, constructability.

Visibility and Automatic Weather System(AWS) data near Nakdong river were analyzed to characterize fog formation during 2012-2013. The temperature was lower than its nearby city - Daegu, whereas the humidity was higher than the city. 157 fog events were observed in total during the 2 year period. About 65% of the events occurred in fall (September, October, and November) followed by winter, summer, and spring. 94 early morning fog events of longer than 30 minutes occurred when south westerly wind speed was lower than 2 m/s. During these events, the water temperature was highest followed by soil surface and air temperatures due to the advection of cold and humid air from nearby hill. The observed fog events were categorized using a fog-type classification algorithm, which used surface cooling, wind speed threshold, rate of change of air temperature and dew point temperature. As a result, frontal fog observed 6 times, radiation 4, advection 13, and evaporation 66. The evaporation fog in the study area lasted longer than other reports. It is due to the interactions of cold air drainage flow and warm surface in addition to the evaporation from the water surface. In particular, more than 60% of the evaporation fog events were accompanied with cold air flows over the wet and warm surface. Therefore, it is needed for the identification of the inland fog mechanism to evaluate the impacts of nearby topography and land cover as well as water body.
In this study, flow patterns in the ice-harbor fishway were analyzed according to fluctuations of the upstream water level, an increase of weir interval, and the presence or absence of orifices using a three-dimensional commercial numerical model, Flow-3D. In order to prove the suitability of the numerical simulation results, the flow velocity and flow rate at the exit of the fishway were observed using a 3D ultrasonic velocimetry on an actual ice-harbor fishway installed downstream of the Daegok bridge in Gyeongan-Cheon. Four types of turbulence modules can be selected for the Flow-3D model. As a result of verification with observation data, the RNG model best described the flow characteristics in the ice-harbor fishway. The velocity structure in the fishway according to fluctuations of the upstream water level was simulated. The results showed that the plunging flow and the streaming flow were mixed at the lowest water level. When the water level increased about 10 cm or more from the lowest water level, the plunging flow disappeared in all pools and only the streaming flow occurred. Contrary to expectations, even when the water level is rose a little, the flow simply occurred mainly on the streaming flow. If the interval between the weirs is increased, both the plunging flow and the streaming flow are showed continued even if the water level rises. In addition, compared to the case where there are no orifices at the bottom of the weirs, the plunging flow tends to be generated in several pools. It is necessary to prevent blocking orifices through active management so that various flow patterns in the fishway can be generated in multiple pools.
Background: Understanding and enhancing change capabilities, including Practice Adaptive Reserve (PAR), of Community Health Centers (CHCs) may mitigate cancer-related health disparities. Materials and Methods: Using stratified random sampling, we recruited 232 staff from seven CHCs serving Asian Pacific Islander communities to complete a self-administered survey. We performed multilevel regression analyses to examine PAR composite scores by CHC, position type, and number of years worked at their clinic. Results: The mean PAR score was 0.7 (s.d. 0.14). Higher scores were associated with a greater perceived likelihood that clinic staff would participate in an evidence-based intervention (EBI). Constructs such as communication, clinic flow, sensemaking, change valence, and resource availability were positively associated with EBI implementation or trended toward significance. Conclusions: PAR scores are positively associated with perceived likelihood of clinic staff participation in cancer screening EBI. Future research is needed to determine PAR levels most conducive to implementing change and to developing interventions that enhance Adaptive Reserve.
The efficiency of fishway installed in rivers can be directly evaluated by means of fish monitoring. On the other hand, when it is difficult to monitor the fish in certain conditions, or when planning a fishway, the efficiency can be evaluated indirectly through the hydraulic analysis. In this study, the hydraulic analysis technique for evaluating the efficiency of a fishway was presented. The River-2D model with the fish physical habitat module was used for the analysis of the attraction efficiency, and the weighted usable area was proposed as an index of the efficiency. In the analysis of passage efficiency, the three-dimensional model, Flow-3D, was used as an evaluation tool to describe the fluid behavior on a hydraulic structure with free surface. The ice-harbor type fishway at Baekgok weir in the Deokcheon River was selected as a test-site, and the efficiency was estimated using the hydraulic analysis. And then it was compared with fish monitoring data acquired from the river. As a result, it is difficult to replace the hydraulic analysis results with the efficiency quantitatively, but it can help to grasp the general tendency.
