  • A large number of accidents have been occurred in the domestic shipbuilding industry. Its number of accidents is approximately twice than that of manufacturing industry and three times larger than that of whole industry in general. There are several reasons that make it hard to control the accidents. First, it is because the shipbuilding industry is composed of many subcontractors who may need improvement in safety education and safety management. Second, the shipyard environments are exposed to lots of hazards such as high elevation works, isolated workspaces, heavyweight and huge structures/components. Last, the shipbuilding industry has grown too rapidly in a short period. For that reason, the safety management standards and safety consciousness could not catch up the speed of its development. In this study, it is suggested to use a more efficient and easier way to conduct safety management using a web-based safety management system for the shipbuilding industry. This system is composed of four main parts, which is available for self-auditing with legal support. Those are checklists based safety and health evaluation, safety inspection, user shared accident database and user shared bulletin board. It is expected that this system can help us to reduce risks in the shipbuilding industry considerably.

  • Background: Workplace violence (WPV) against healthcare workers (HCWs) employed in psychiatric inpatient wards is a serious occupational issue that involves both staff and patients; the consequences of WPV may include increased service costs and lower standards of care. The purpose of this review was to evaluate which topics have been focused on in the literature and which are new in approaching the concern of patient violence against HCWs employed in psychiatric inpatient wards, in the past 20 years. Methods: We searched for publications in PubMed and Web of Science using selected keywords. Each article was reviewed and categorized into one or more of the following four categories based on its subject matter: risk assessment, risk management, occurrence rates, and physical/nonphysical consequences. Results: Our search resulted in a total of 64 publications that matched our inclusion criteria. The topics discussed, in order of frequency (from highest to lowest), were as follows: "risk assessment," "risk management," "occurrence rates," and "physical/nonphysical consequences." Schizophrenia, young age, alcohol use, drug misuse, a history of violence, and hostile-dominant interpersonal styles were found to be the predictors of patients' violence. Conclusion: Risk assessment of violence by patients appeared the way to effectively minimize the occurrence of WPV and, consequently, to better protect mental HCWs. We found paucity of data regarding psychologic sequelae of WPV. According to these findings, we suggest the need to better investigate the psychologic consequences of WPV, with the aim of checking the effective interventions to assist HCW victims of violence and to prevent psychologic illness.

  • Existing XML-based variable data publishing, in which a user has to manually prepare and edit template rules, is rather difficult for general users to create documents. Especially when processing large variable XML documents such as manuals or technical documents, fast document formatting is required to provide fast response speed for editing, which the existing batch processing cannot provide. This paper proposes a variable data publishing system with dynamic editing and formatting function, which support fast formatting upon user's request for large volume documents as well as for template editing through interaction by displaying the result of template-based variable documents on WYSIWYG screen. Proposed system can be effectively used for creating customized documents with many variable data that can be changed according to individual characteristics such as individual, company or area; source documents, template documents and formatted documents adopt XML, XSLT and XPath standards suggested by W3C, which facilitates extension to web document processing system.

  • Existing information security risk assessment methods focus on evaluating the vulnerability of information assets. However, when the form of information assets changes and new types of information assets emerge, there is a limitation in that the evaluation standards for them are also added or deleted. Existing methods have insufficient research on the path through which cyber threats are introduced. In particular, there is very little research on blocking the inflow path for web-based information systems with public IPs. Therefore, this paper introduces the main research contents of the BDLA (Blockade and Defense Level Analysis)-based information security risk assessment model. In addition, by applying the BDLA-based information security risk assessment model, the information security risk level was studied by measuring the blockade level and security equipment level of 17 public institutions.

  • This paper reports on experiments addressing the buckling and collapse behavior of an innovative built-up cold-formed steel (CFS) columns. The built-up column consists of four individual CFS lipped channels, two of them placed back-to-back at the web using two self-drilling screw fasteners at specified spacing along the column length, while the other two channels were connected flange-to-flange using one self-drilling screw fastener at specified spacing along the column length. In total, 12 experimental tests are reported, covering a wide range of column lengths from stub to slender columns. The initial geometric imperfections and material properties were determined for all test specimens. The effect of screw spacing, load-versus axial shortening behaviour and buckling modes for different lengths and screw spacing were investigated. Nonlinear finite element (FE) models were also developed, which included material nonlinearities and initial geometric imperfections. The FE models were validated against the experimental results, both in terms of axial capacity and failure modes of built-up CFS columns. Furthermore, using the validated FE models, a parametric study was conducted which comprises 324 models to investigate the effect of screw fastener spacing, thicknesses and wide range of lengths on axial capacity of back-to-back and flange-to-flange built-up CFS channel sections. Using both the experimental and FE results, it is shown that design in accordance with the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and Australia/New Zealand (AS/NZS) standards is slightly conservative by 6% on average, while determining the axial capacity of back-to-back and flange-to-flange built-up CFS channel sections.

  • In recent years, the problem of academic credential falsification is not simply the manipulation of certificates generated by educational institutions, but also the difficulty of trusting automated relationship verification and verification itself, such as falsely recording completion as graduation while still in school. This is due to the lack of sharing of educational background databases among university institutions and the establishment/operation of independent systems that make it difficult to track educational backgrounds. This study designs and implements an E-AV model for academic credential verification centered on university institutions. It summarizes and stores the linked information on the existing academic background in an encrypted database and implements it with web standard technology considering the compatibility and scalability of the existing system. The results of sample data verification show that it improves safety against forgery and complies with storage space and execution performance. This study aims to contribute to the improvement of online verification services such as academic records management in domestic universities.

  • In recent years, various educational institutions have used online certificate services to verify academic achievement related to graduation and grades. However, the certificate of the existing system has limitations in verifying and tracking whether it is true or not and detailed academic background. In this regard, cases of forgery/falsification of online/offline certificates continue to occur. This study proposes a blockchain-based verification method that is safe from forgery and alteration, focusing on university institutions. Necessary information such as detailed class categories for each department, attendance, and detailed grades was collected/analyzed to create a linkage relationship through blockchain. In addition, the system/network environment required for blockchain sharing was considered, and it was implemented as an extension module in the form of an independent web application. As a result of the block chain verification, it was proved that the safe trust verification of educational information and the relationship between detailed information can be traced. This study aims to contribute to the improvement of academic credential verification services and information security for Korean educational institutions in the future.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify factors related to the workload of intensive care unit nurses through a systematic literature review and meta-analysis to provide basic data to explore the direction of development of nursing staffing standards. Methods: This study involved quantitative studies about nurses working in intensive care units related to nursing workload published in English or Korean since 2000. Search terms included 'intensive care unit', 'nursing workload', and their variations. Databases such as RISS, DBpia, MEDLINE(PubMed), CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Web of Science were utilized. Quality assessment was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute's Critical Appraisal Checklist for Analytical Cross-Sectional Studies. JAMOVI software facilitated the analysis of effect sizes, employing a meta-analysis approach for 7 studies with correlational or regression data. Results: From 16 studies on the workload of intensive care unit nurses, a total of 20 patient and nurse-related factors were identified. Patient-related factors included severity of illness, length of stay, and age. Meta-analysis was conducted for three patient-related factors: age, severity of illness measured by SAPS 3, and length of stay. Only severity of illness measured by SAPS 3 was significantly associated with nurse workload (Zr=0.16, p<.001, 95% CI=0.09-0.24). Conclusion: In previous studies, the characteristics of intensive care units and patients varied across studies, and a variety of scales for measuring workload and severity of illness were also used. Sustained research reflecting domestic intensive care unit work environments and assessing the workload of intensive care unit nurses should be imperative.
