A Study on the Effect of Pre-cue in Simple Reactions on Control-on-Display Interfaces

  • Objective: This study focuses on the effects of pre-cues informing the location of upcoming visual stimulus on finger movement response in the context of control-on-display interfaces. Background: Previous research on pre-cues focus on attention allocation and motion studies were limited to indirect control conditions. The design of this study aimed to collect data on the exact landing point for finger-tap responses to a given visual stimulus. Method: Controlled visual stimuli and tasks were presented on a UI evaluation system built using mobile web standards; response accuracy and response time were measured and collected as appropriate. Among the 16 recruited participants, 11 completed the experiment. Results: Providing pre-cue on the location of stimulus affected response time and response accuracy. The response bias, which is a distance from the center of stimulus to the finger-tap location, was larger when the pre-cue was given during a one-handed operation. Conclusion: Given a pre-cue, response time decreases, but with accuracy penalized. Application: In designing touch-screen UI's - more strictly, visual components also acting as controllers - designers would do well to balance human perceptual and cognitive characteristics strategically.

  • The visual presentation is one key feature which gives much consideration in designing mobile applications as it acquires attention from the end user. It takes only a few milliseconds to form an impression on a person and this is not any different to the web and mobile application designs. The first few milliseconds are a crucial time for developers as the impression produced would indicate further engagement of the service. Developers should continuously update the designs based on human needs. A few of these contents have actually paved its way to being continuously used. By synthesizing results of preceding researchers, this paper considers layout, color, and font as UI design elements of SNS messenger, and illustration and animation as the graphic image of it. In this study, the preference for messaging application chat layout was being surveyed and analyzed. As a result, there has been little significance identified since the instant messaging, so chat layout shows very minimal variance in their design.

  • In this paper, in order to improve the execution performance and serviceability of cross-platform applications frameworks based on the existing web applications, we design and implement a new hybrid application framework named as WApplE.js, which enables direct control of native UI(User Interface) of mobile operating systems and various resources via JavaScript. We first present the design results for the overall software structure and the configuration of every layer of WApplE.js, and then analyze the processes for calling and handling APIs in the implemented hybrid application framework. In addition, the results of comparison of features to the existing frameworks are presented.

  • In recent rears. web portal system has received much attention as a user interface for the grid environment. Grid system uses symmetric key for authenticating user identity while the traditional portal system does a password-based authentication. Regarding this, many researches are progressing to integrate portal accounts with symmetric key. Specially. researches such as GAMA and PURSE are active and those focus on easy usability for users who familiar with password-based authentication. However the protection of data and resources is a critical issue in Grid environment, because those are shared through a wide-area network. In this paper, we suggest a new authentication mechanism which unify authentication mechanisms between portal system and grid service by using symmetric key. It will improve a security level in UI layer as much as in grid service.

  • In this paper, we implement the multimedia remote control system by using existing internet service or wired online. We also provide user-friendly convenient environment with developed application program named EzPlay and PC-EPG. The multimedia remote control system consists of integrated wireless transceiver of PC and TV connected USB type and the users can easily use lots of contents because EzPlay program provides appropriate UI mode on the PC and TV screen. The unposed system can operate real-time playing, reserved video receding and data storing function using internet mesh based on signal detecting control theory. The PC-EPG system is implemented by server/client web program and the client program based on visual C++/MFC processes data storing in client computer through TCP/IP. It also provides intelligent function that constructs database according to user's preference.

Development of a Social Network Service Closely Coupled with Local Broadcasting Media

  • Recently, local broadcast companies are experiencing financial shortages and business deterioration due to difficulties in securing income sources. This is due to the continuous decrease in viewership ratings as the contents of the broadcast companies do not attract the interest and participation of local residents. To resolve this issue, this paper presents a social network service closely coupled with local broadcasting. In the proposed service, the exposure range of articles is limited to a region so that reporters could easily find the interests of local residents. In addition, among the articles written by local residents, the articles requested to be broadcast by reporters are placed at the top section of the main page. From this UI configuration, local residents can easily recognize that their opinions can be directly connected to the broadcast, which is intended to activate their participation. The proposed service was implemented in the form of a prototype system with JCN, a broadcasting company in Ulsan, and this paper discusses its user interfaces, system structure, and an algorithm to estimate the priority of the written articles.

  • Client based web mashups have become one of the most important architecture in web application development. Although there are well known methods to generate presentation view codes for web services, navigations between views and service requests are still developed manually in most web mashups. In this paper, we propose the concept of deterministic data binding from output data to input parameters of another method. Using binding relations, we can model navigation menus for service method requests. For a given set of data mappings between services, we investigate context dependent binding conditions and discuss the generation of views and navigation menus. The proposed approach provides UI for users to navigate services of client mashup page using simple and convenient interface even when the number of services and the size of the mashup page grows. In order to show the usability of the proposed approach, we present a historic tourism service.

  • The teleoperation system applies all of the industrial fields due to the development of the network infrastructure. It is one of the indispensable elements for controlling the robot at a remote sight and monitoring the limit or unknown environment. The common teleoperation robot system is what has the visual module to supply the network system and realistic UI to the existed robot system. Therefore, remarked that the fusion between modules and transmission of visual data the remarked the important element to improve the robot application in the various environments. Delay of development time by robot platform and noneffective communication among developers are also problem to approach. In this paper we propose the independent teleoperation system. The main application language is JAVA in this system, which is applied JAVA API like JNI and JMF to construct the effective teleoperation system. The system has the both side communication system between sever and client as a basic structure. The visual data that is attached the robot at a remote sight is captured by JMF API and then is transmitted to the web browser called client by RTR protocol. JNI is used to connect between JAVA and the lower part application (sensor fusion, motion control.) of the robot programmed by various Native languages. The proposed system is the application that can perform the elements, for instance transmission of visual data, the fusion of various native application modules and the effective network communication, with any platform.

  • RIA(Rich Internet Application) has the best User Interface and easy way to use. It is used in many Application System and Web Application. This Paper introduces a RIA technology for Implementation of u-Hospital Application. This System uses a history of customers in the hospital and question about diseases, so we can improve the satisfaction of service. This paper shows that the u-Hospital System using RIA is more fast and easy than HTML application. Because RIA has special features that data can be obtained from server without reloading entire page and every user interaction does not require web server response. The proposed technology can improve the efficient u-Hospital System because it can be extended to ubiquitous mobile application.

  • 웹 2.0의 대표적인 형태로 관심을 받고 있는 RSS 서비스는 기술에 대한 이해가 바탕이 되어야만 사용할 수 있는 인터페이스를 기반하고 있기 때문에 사용자들의 이용이 저조한 현상이 나타나고 있다. 이러한 현상을 극복하기 위한 방안으로 정보 저장과 관리에 관한 사용자의 웹 브라우징 형태를 분석하여 유용성이 높은 유무선 통합 RSS 리더의 인터페이스를 연구하고자 히는 것이 이 논문의 목적이다. 실험을 통하여 사용자를 조사한 결과 웹 정보를 저장하고 관리하는 툴로 즐겨찾기를 가장 많이 사용하고 있으며 포탈서비스에 대한 의존도가 높게 나타났다. 이러한 분석을 토대로 사용자의 정보 저장과 보관에 대한 경험에 근거한 인터페이스 개발로 기술에 대한 거부감 해소와 유용성 높은 유무선 연동 RSS 리더 서비스 개발이 가능하리라고 판단된다. 또한 Push model 과 Pull model 의 자연스러운 공존을 통해 웹 1.0에서 2.0으로 이행하는 과도기적 모델로 활용할 수 있다. 이 논문을 통하여 웹 2.0 서비스 개발하는데 있어 현재 사용자들의 웹 사용 경험을 이해할 수 있는 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이라고 예상된다.
