용수 파력발전소 사례에서 독립 케이슨의 피복석 안정성 연구 (Study of Stability for Armor Weight of Stand-alone Caisson at Yongsu Wave Power Plant)

  • 용수 파력발전소의 해저케이블이 단락되는 사고가 2014년 겨울에 발생했다. 그 원인을 밝히기 위해서 재현기간 50년 이상의 고파랑 발생 가능성과 케이블 보호공의 설계중량 과소 산정 여부를 검토하였다. 기상청에서 운용하는 부이의 관측자료와 파랑추산자료를 검토하여 겨울동안 발생한 고파랑의 재현기간을 살펴보았다. 케이블 보호공의 설계중량을 검토하기 위해서 항만 및 어항 설계기준 뿐만 아니라 파의 입사각이 큰 경우의 연구결과를 참조해서 직접 안정중량을 계산하였다. 분석 결과, 2014년 겨울동안 재현빈도 50년 이상의 고파랑은 발생하지 않았으며, 경사지게 입사하는 파랑에 대한 케이블 보호공의 중량이 부족해서 보호공이 이탈한 것으로 나타났다.

The conditional risk probability-based seawall height design method

  • The determination of the required seawall height is usually based on the combination of wind speed (or wave height) and still water level according to a specified return period, e.g., 50-year return period wind speed and 50-year return period still water level. In reality, the two variables are be partially correlated. This may be lead to over-design (costs) of seawall structures. The above-mentioned return period for the design of a seawall depends on economy, society and natural environment in the region. This means a specified risk level of overtopping or damage of a seawall structure is usually allowed. The aim of this paper is to present a conditional risk probability-based seawall height design method which incorporates the correlation of the two variables. For purposes of demonstration, the wind speeds and water levels collected from Jiangsu of China are analyzed. The results show this method can improve seawall height design accuracy.

Case Study on Habitability of Superstructure built on Floating Structure

  • Researches on a superstructure built on a floating structure in the shape of pontoon type have begun in recent years. A superstructure responds by wave load and it is important to evaluate its habitability. The purpose of this study is evaluation and investigation of habitability of a superstructure due to wave for 10 year return period. In this study, response analyses of the superstructure built on middle-sized floating structure due to the waves of three cases were carried out by 3-D integration analysis, which means analyzing the calculation model integrated a superstructure with a floating structure, and its habitability was evaluated by the evaluation diagrams. As the result, the habitability differed by each wave condition The use of a superstructure is restricted according to the disposition of a floating structure for incident wave angle.

  • The design, procurement and fabrication of FPSO project ordered by Inpex Browse, Ltd. have been currently carried out by DSME(Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine and Engineering Co.). The unit will be installed and operated in the Ichthys field offshore of North-Western Australia and there are the particular design requirements to do with performance on the environment loads corresponding to max. 10,000 years return period wave. Also, the operational life of FPSO has to be over 40 years. With this background, this paper introduces the structural design procedure of crane pedestal foundation operated in north-western Australia offshore. The design of crane pedestal foundation structure is basically based on international design code (i.e. API Spec. 2C), Classification society's rule and project specifications. The design load cases are mainly divided into the crane normal operating conditions and crane stowed conditions according to environment conditions of the offshore with 1-year, 5-year, 10-year, 200-year and 10,000-year return period wave. This design experience for crane pedestal foundation operated in north-western Australia offshore will be useful to do engineering of other offshore crane structures.

Numerical and experimental analysis of a wave energy converter in extreme waves

  • In the present paper, a numerical and experimental analysis for a wave energy converter under extreme environmental conditions is carried out. After the definition of design waves, including a 100-year return period stochastic sea state and a deterministic rogue wave condition, a numerical analysis using potential theory and a RANS equations solver are compared with experiments carried out at the Seakeeping Basin at the Technical University of Berlin. Results are discussed with special emphasis on the limits of potential theory methods for the evaluation of extreme wave conditions and the use of the presented methodology for early design stages.

Effects of Storm Waves Caused by Typhoon Bolaven (1215) on Korean Coast: A Comparative Analysis with Deepwater Design Waves

  • This paper employs the third-generation simulating waves nearshore (SWAN) ocean wave model to estimate and analyze storm waves induced by Typhoon Bolaven, focusing on its impact along the west coast and Jeju Island of Korea. Utilizing reanalyzed meteorological data from the Japan Meteorological Agency meso scale model (JMA-MSM), the study simulated storm waves from Typhoon Bolaven, which maintained its intensity up to high latitudes as it approached the Korean Peninsula in 2012. Validation of the SWAN model against observed wave data demonstrated a strong correlation, particularly in regions where wind speeds exceeded 20 m/s and wave heights surpassed 5 m. Results indicate significant storm wave heights across Jeju Island and Korea's west and southwest seas, with coastal grid points near islands recording storm wave heights exceeding 90% of the 50-year return period design wave heights. Notably, specific grid points near islands in the northern West Sea and southwest Jeju Island estimated storm wave heights at 90.22% and 91.48% of the design values, respectively. The paper highlights the increased uncertainty and vulnerability in coastal disaster predictions due to event-driven typhoons and emphasizes the need for enhanced accuracy and speed in typhoon wave predictions amid the escalating climate crisis.

  • 미래 기후 시나리오에 따르면 우리나라 자연재해의 주요 요인인 태풍의 강도는 강해질 것으로 전망된다. 태풍 강도 증가는 내습 파고 상승으로 이어져 주거, 산업, 관광 등의 용도로 인구 및 건물 밀집도가 높은 연안 지역의 대규모 피해발생 가능성이 높은 상황이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 동해 해양기상부이 관측자료를 분석하여 최대 유의파고가 나타난 태풍 마이삭(202009) 내습 기간에 대해 파랑추산 수치모형실험을 수행하였다. 파랑추산실험 경계조건은 JMA-MSM의 바람장과 SSP5-8.5 미래 기후 시나리오의 태풍 중심기압 감소율을 적용한 바람장을 사용하였다. 파랑추산실험 결과 SSP5-8.5 시나리오에서 속초항 방파제 전면에서의 파고는 4.06 m에서 4.68 m로 15.27% 증가하였다. 또한, 심해설계파 147-2 격자점 위치에서의 재현빈도는 최소 2배 이상 증가하는 것으로 산출되어, 현재 해안구조물 설계 시 관행적으로 적용하는 50년 재현빈도 심해설계파에 대한 제고가 필요하다.

  • 국제해사기구의 연료유 황 함유량 제한 등, 세계적으로 강화되고 있는 환경규제로 LNG를 선박 연료로 사용하는 연구 및 사업이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기본설계 되어 있는 부유식 벙커링 터미널(FLBT, Floating LNG bunkering terminal)을 대상으로, STS LNG 하역 작업을 위해 접안 하는 과정을 수치 시뮬레이션으로 평가하였다. 수치해석에서는 예인선이 대상선박을 밀 경우 이를 가상의 펜더로 가정하였으며, 당길 때는 HMPE 로프 특성을 적용하였다. 해석에는 파랑, 조류, 바람 1년 재현 확률의 해상조건을 적용하였다. 수치모델은 선행 모형시험 결과로부터 조정되어 정확한 결과를 얻을 수 있도록 하였다. 해석 결과 LNG선은 대부분의 1년 환경조건에서 안전한 접안이 가능하였다. 파랑 방향에 따라 안정성의 차이가 큼으로 FLBT의 Heading control 기능을 적용하여 횡파를 피한다면 더욱 안정적인 운용이 가능할 것이다.

제주시 탑동 호안 월파 대응 방안에 관한 모형실험 (A Study on Experiment for Countermeasures to Overtopping at Tapdong Revetment in Jeju)

  • 본 연구에서는 제주시 탑동 호안에서 빈번하게 발생하고 있는 월파 피해의 발생 원인을 파악하고 그에 따른 대응방안을 모색하기 위하여 실시한 수리모형실험을 다루었다. 모형실험에서는 입사파의 주기 변화에 따른 탑동 호안의 반사율을 피복석 설치 유무에 대해 측정하였다. 또한 50년 반복주기 NE 설계파를 기준으로 선정된 파고와 주기 변화에 따른 월파량 및 탑동 호안 구조물 내 파압을 상부구조물의 높이 증가와 곡면 돌출부의 형상을 바꿔가면서 측정하였다. 실험결과로부터 상부구조물의 높이 증가와 곡면 돌출부의 형상 변화가 월파량을 감소 측면에 효과적임을 확인하였다.

Static and dynamic mooring analysis - Stability of floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) risers for extreme environmental conditions

  • Floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facilities are used at most of the offshore oil fields worldwide. FPSO usage is expected to grow as oil fields move to deeper water, thus requiring the reliability and stability of mooring wires and risers in extreme environmental conditions. Except for the case of predictable attack angles of external loadings, FPSO facilities with turret single point mooring (SPM) systems are in general use. There are two types of turret systems: permanent systems and disconnectable turret mooring systems. Extreme environment criteria for permanent moorings are usually based on a 100-year return period event. It is common to use two or three environments including the 100-year wave with associated wind and current, and the 100-year wind with associated waves and current. When fitted with a disconnectable turret mooring system, FPSOs can be used in areas where it is desirable to remove the production unit from the field temporarily to prevent exposure to extreme events such as cyclones or large icebergs. Static and dynamic mooring analyses were performed to evaluate the stability of a spider buoy after disconnection from a turret during cyclone environmental conditions.
