The diurnal changes of the stomatal conductance, transpiration and leaf water potential were measured in order to assess the water relations characteristics of Pueraria thunbergiana in August of 1995 and 1996. The results showed two different responses depending on the duration of rainless days. The microclimatic conditions were highly stressful on 2 August. Daily maximum temperature reached to $39.0{\circ}C$ and vapor pressure deficit was 3.55 KPa. During this time the leaf water potential decreased to -1.02 MPa and a marked reduction of stomatal conductance was shown. However, on 15 August the stomatal conductance increased with increment of photon flux density, and transpiration was highly maintained during the day time. Minimum leaf water potential was only -0.47 MPa in spite of high transpiration rate. Furthermore, on 15 August reduced leaf water potential during the day time was recovered rapidly with decrease of photon flux density, whereas recovery of leaf water potential on 2 August was delayed. However, reduced leaf water potential on 2 August was recovered untile the next dawn. Osmotic potential at turgor loss point of Pueraria thunbergiana on 2, 3 and 15 August was -1.79, -1.70 and -1.60 MPa, respectively. The vapor pressure deficit is more contributive to the regulation of stomatal conductance than leaf water potential.

The main mode of heat transfer of combustion gases at high temperature is thermal radiation of the participating gases, which are mainly carbon dioxide and water vapor. Therefore, the information of the emissivities of carbon dioxide and water vapor would be very important in the thermal performance analysis of a furnace. In this study, an exponential model for the emissivities of carbon dioxide and water vapor is derived as a function of the product of the partial pressure and characteristic length and a polynomial of reciprocal of temperature. Error analysis of the calculated values from the present model is performed for the temperature ranges of 555.6∼2777.8K and the partial-pressure-length product ranges of 0.09144∼609.6 cm-atm. For carbon dioxide, the difference between the values from the present model and the Hottels chart is less than 2.5% using a polynomial in 1/T of degree of 4. For water vapor, the model can predict the emissivity within 2.5% difference using a polynomial in 1/T of degree of 3.
The major cause of Concrete Spalling at high temperatures can be divided into the Vapor Pressure Rising, caused by the increase in free water temperature within the concrete, and Pore Pressure Rising induced by the vapor moving into dense pores within the concrete. Although the occurrence of spalling within concrete caused by these pressure increases can be assessed experimentally, a close examination into Mechanistic influence against various spalling factors shall be carried out first by using Mathematical Modeling and Theoretical Equations. The Spalling Prospect Process by theoretical mechanism is expedited in order of the following; selection of heating condition (fire strength and flame heating direction), a selection of constituent elements, an analysis of heat transmission, an analysis of moisture movement, distribution of water content, an analysis of pore/vapor pressure, and assessment of spalling occurrence.
This paper examined the water repellency, water proofing and water vapor permeability of twelve types of woven fabrics for sports wear clothing. Their physical properties were compared and discussed with the fabric structural parameters and surface finishing effect. A water repellent property of 100% was obtained in the coated or laminated water repellent finished fabrics; in addition, cotton/nylon breathable composite fabrics treated with a laminated finishing and with low fabric density showed a 90% water repellency. Water proofing fabric above 6,000 mm H2O hydraulic pressure was achieved by coated or laminated finishing; however, high density fabric or medium-level coated fabrics exhibited 100% water repellent and low water proofing characteristics. Superior water vapor permeability characteristics with good water repellency and proofing properties were achieved at the 2.5 layered low density and with 0.7 - 0.9 cover factor nylon fabrics treated with hydrophilic laminated finishing. The regression analysis for examining the effects of fabric structural parameters and surface finishing such as coating and laminating to the water vapor permeability exhibited a high determination coefficient of fabric structural parameters of 63.5%; in addition,, main factors among fabric structural parameters appeared to be cover factor and fabric thickness per weight. Coating and Laminating factors exhibited determination coefficient of water vapor permeability parameters of 36.5%.
Effect of a non-absorbable gas on the absorption process in a vertical tube absorber was investigated numerically. The water vapor mined with air as the non-absorbable gas is absorbed into LiBr/water solution film. The flow is assumed to be laminar and fully developed in both liquid and gas phases. The diffusion and energy equations were solved in both phases to give the temperature and concentrations, from which heat and mass fluxes were determined. It was shown that the local absorption rate decreases as the mass fraction of air in water vapor increases. The vapor pressure of water at the liquid-vapor interface reduces significantly since the non-absorbable gas is accumulated near the interface. The effect of non-absorbable gases on absorption rate becomes larger as the mass flow rate of the vapor decreases. For small amount of non-absorbable gases the total absorption rate of water vapor increases as the mass flow rate of the vapor decreases. Total absorption rate increases as the mass flow rate of the vapor increases for large concentration of non-absorbables at the inlet of an absorber.
